Aug 12, 2012 - We are being followed
We went to church at The First Baptist Church of Kearney. We set down and a lady behind of said are you all new here or do you usually go to the 8:00 service. We told her we were just passing thru and of course she wanted to know where we were from and where we were going. We explained to her we were just traveling and were from Ky. She said they had been in Ky once then she went on to tell us about all the places she had been and where all we should go. Finally her husband punched her to be quiet because church had started. Really enjoyed...

Aug 11, 2012 - corn fields
Gary told us when we left that the route we had planned was flat and nothing to look at. You are right Gary. Corn Field after Corn Field. We drove 196 miles today so we stopped about 1:30 which is ok with me. We have about decided to only drive about 100 miles a day from now on since we don't want to get to Texas when it is to hot. We are at the Sunny Meadows RV park which is kind of a funny name for it since it is just a gravel parking lot. Nice level sites but nothing else. Not even a town close. We will stay here until Monday so we can...

Jun 7, 2012 - Across the rolling hills
THURSDAY & FRIDAY: Great Meadow Passport Park, Elm Creek, NE This campground should be called – Gravel truck pullover. It is small, crowded and just a gravel parking lot with hook-ups. We are about 75 feet from the ditch of a busy US highway and within sight (and sound) of I-80. But we needed a spot to wash clothes and dump the holding tanks and the price was right. We've paid more for less amenities. We went to bed early last night and slept just fine – the traffic didn't bother us at all. Thursday's drive was beautiful. The rolling hill...

Jun 21, 2011 - Elm Creek, NE Temp 71
Something I forgot to mention last night that we learned (maybe we should have already have known). The weather man (during the constant interruptions to the regular programming to bring us severe weather updates) kept reminding people that tornadoes were harder (impossible??) to see at night or in the rain. Made me think of the scene from the movie Twister, when the tornado comes through the drive-in movie at night and the characters don't "see" it until there's a flash of lightning and by then it's already "there"! I am so glad we have...

Jun 25, 2009 - Elm Creek, Nebraska
So today we spent driving through Colorado and 3/4 of Nebraska. Never stop and arrived at 9pm at a campground in the niddle of no where, it was really cheap $16 a night but had hook ups. The night got stormy and in the middle of the night the motorhome really started rocking, I thought there was going to be a tornado. So I sat up for and 1hour and watched the lighting and wind waiting. Van sleep though it all. I was really tried with the 2 hours time change and that.

Sep 11, 2008 - Elm Creek, Nebraska
First stop in Nebraska is Elm Creek. We stopped there because Trish's family live in Overton which is next to Elm Creek. Susan and I stayed at Elm Creek and Dave and Trish went to the farm in Overton. This area grows corn and soy beans. We didn't camp at the farm because there was not any electricity for us. While there Dave and Trish showed us around all the small cities. We went through the Military Museum. It is pretty large and has a lot of interesting vehicles. We also went to the Wild Horse and Burro Facility run by the federal...

We took our time this morning and left Nebraska City about 10:15 AM. We have a reservation for Friday night to Tuesday night at Sunny Meadows Campground in Elm Creek, NE.
We traveled along hwy 2 to I-80. Green, lots and lots of green. That's what Nebraska is right now. There is so much open ground, you can look out, w a y into the distance. The blue sky and cloud formations just make for a beautiful site to see.
