Sep 21, 2017 - Early Birds Get The Worm

Gene mapped out our plan of attack on Wednesday night. We got up at 5 am and OPERATION EARLY BIRD was deployed. We ate our hotel breakfast (waffles, omelet, fruit, milk, coffee), hit the road, and headed to Sargent. We opened the Community Center in Sargent. They had to give us a 6 foot table to hold all of our goodies. For only having a population of 525, there was certainly a ton of old junk (oops! I mean "treasures") there. Well I was wrong about Nebraska, well not totally, there is an awful lot of corn here, but today we traveled north into the "sand hills" and discovered "beef". Nebraska also raises and amazing number of cows. There is so much grassland here and I guess because it is all sandy soil it is not the most productive land, the grass really struggles but the cattle seem to do very well on it. The sand hills area, most of northwest and north central part of Nebraska, is really quite beautiful, in a desolate way. The hills are rolling and gentle and...
