May 9, 2013 - Full circle
Elkhorn, NE. We have finally found spring! After having gone through snow, blazing heat, and snow again, we are finally back in Nebraska and have found spring. The plum thickets are in full bloom, the lilacs are starting to blossom, tulips are in their glory, and the green grass is ragged and uneven looking as it awaits its first mowing of the season. Some trees are still filling in with leaves and everything is fresh and clean. Home IS the best place! We shall turn our attention to activities here for a while but the travel bug is sure to...

May 3, 2013 - Stromsburg, Nebraska
After a long day Wednesday and the fact that Thursday was predicting wind, rain and snow for the area we decided to stay put and have a PJ day. Wednesday was 84 and that night it dropped to 33. The wind blowed all night and most of the next day. It didn't get over 45 Thursday. We needed a days rest anyway. We got up this morning and it was clear sky with no wind. So we pulled out around 8:30am and headed North. We had a good day traveling. The wind started to pick up alittle after noon but not too bad. We had originally planned to make it...

May 1, 2013 - Fremont NE - Fremont Lakes State Park - Lakeview Campground
Arrived in Fremont on Sunday night. Had 2 days of good weather and now we are waiting for the snow to arrive. Today is cold and rainy. The temperature has been steadily falling all day. At least they have backed off on the amount of snow we're supposed to get - down from 10 inches to 1 inch. If we do get snow, it will be a rare occurrence. It hasn't snowed in Omaha in the month of May since the 60's (I'm thinking it was 1967.)Saw Jack, Theresa and Mike on Monday. They are all doing fine and looking good. We'll probably stay here through the...

Apr 26, 2013 - Stromsburg NE - Buckley Park
Came to one of the little city parks Nebraska after leaving North Platte. This is a great little park with water and electricity and it's donations only, so the price is right. Bridget is in seventh heaven. They have green grass here and squirrels. Two of her favorite things. Got 3 more stops on our wine tour on the way here and will get Central City and Stromsburg before we leave here. You know, we haven't even drunk all of the wine we got on last year's tour. But, we enjoy talking to the different people at the wineries. So far, we talked...

Apr 25, 2013 - North Platte NE - Walmart Parking Lot
Started our annual tour of Nebraska wineries today at Lewellen NE. We plan to make a few more stops on the way to Omaha. Stopped at North Platte today because we really needed to do some laundry and grocer shopping. It got so late, we decided to save the campground fee and stay at Walmart tonight.

Apr 24, 2013 - Sidney NE - Cabela's Parking Lot
We came all the way from New Mexico to Nebraska today. Decided we didn't need to stop in Colorado this trip. We did get to see Pike's Peak. It looks like it has quite a bit of snow on top. Roger shopped at Cabela's while he had the chance. Didn't find too many things he couldn't leave without, though.

Apr 22, 2013 - Valentine, Nebraska
After we left the factory we headed North towards Montana. We took it slow, only very short drives. When we got here, Valentine, Nebraska a winter storm moved it. The morning we drove here the controls for our furnace stopped working. That leaves us without reliable heat. Once the storm came in and dumped about 3" of snow, we are stuck here. All we have for heat is a small space heater. It does keep the trailer from getting colder than 59 degrees. It is cold but not terrible. We might be stuck here for 3 days until this storm passes. The...

Apr 19, 2013 - WRONG TURN!!!!
A friend, from Dataw Island, SC, graciously reminded us that when we bought the bus, we boasted about spending our time in 70 degree weather. Well, all we can figure is that Miz Garmen had us take a wrong turn somewhere because we haven’t seen anything close to 70 degrees since we left Seneca!! When we woke up in Lincoln, NE, there was a snow covering on the ground, there was a rain/snow mix with the wind blowing at 20 MPH and gusting to 30. The wind chill was 21 degrees. Later that day the rain stopped (snow continued) and the temperature...

Apr 15, 2013 - I sneezed across Nebraska
Not much to write about today...and not much to show you. If I had video taped my trip, you could have enjoyed several hours of sneezing. Don't know what was in the air, but my nose was not happy. It was a dreary ride, but a smooth one. I80 has really been a great highway. My RV park is about 20 miles east of Lincoln near the town of Gretna. It's adequate. Well, the best so far in that I have good TV reception and running water. The weather report is for more winter for at least the next week. I can't wait for summer and all the corn...

Apr 14, 2013 - Buffalo Bill and the Canteen
I've had a very relaxing visit in North Platte. It was on my itinerary simply because of that book. I knew the depot/canteen no longer existed but was very disappointed to find the museum with artifacts from those days was closed. I photographed pictures at the souvenir shop at Cody Fort...not a real fort...and that made me feel better. The people of North Platte during WWII exemplified the very best of Americans. I hope you all can enjoy the story someday. Spent yesterday and today watching the Masters. I remember Angel Cabrera winning in...

Apr 12, 2013 - Once Upon a Town
Jolley Rogers RV dealer was done with my rig by 10:00 a.m. I'm in North Platte now - my electricity works and the heater works, so I am very happy. There were no burst pipes, and the converter and battery checked out fine. What disappointed me was when I arrived in North Platte, 220 miles east of Cheyenne, my gas heater was on when I entered the trailer. And in my bathroom, all the vanity items that I usually nest in a towel in the sink, were all on the vanity counter...and none had fallen on the floor! I learned another lesson...don't...

Apr 11, 2013 - Once more unto the breach
Grand Island, NE Spring officially started March 21. As we set off on one of our road adventures, we are hard-pressed to see evidence of spring anywhere. In fact, we drove through a snow storm with very limited visibility and it is snowing right now. We are in our hotel gazing out the window at snow falling on a pretty lake. There are two ducks on the shore just below our window. They are protesting loudly about the snow. It would be just our luck that they are insomniac ducks that are going to quack all night! Our goal on this trip is to...
