May 20, 2013 - Whitefish, MT and Glacier National Park

As we were heading to Canada the next day, we headed to Whitefish, MT to be closer to the border. Whitefish is a beautiful little town with about 7,000 people. It had a vibrant 4 block downtown with lots of shops, restaurants and pubs. If you could shorten the winter, this would be a nice place to live. While there, we drove to Glacier National Park. As the road “Driving to the Sun” was not open yet, we never got to experience the beauty of the park that you hear so much about. Guess we will do this the next time we are in Montana. We did...

Aug 1, 2012 - Day 5 - Big Mountain, Bigfork, The Conrad Mansion, and The Lonesome Dove Ranch

Did you know that Montana is the fourth largest state in terms of land mass, but ranks 44th in population? The Big Sky Country is blessed with more wide-open spaces than most other places in the lower 48. Only with the last census did the population of Montana reach 1,000,000 (that's for the whole state!). Not one single city in the state has a six figure population. And Montana is one of four states that has no general sales tax. This morning we were treated to some great views of the Flathead Valley and the Big Sky Country as we boarded...

Jul 31, 2012 - Day 4 - From Helena to Whitefish

We had an early start to the day today, leaving Helena about 8:00 am. Our first stop was in Lincoln at the High Country Trading Post. They are known for their varieties of jerky and berry products. Of course, we helped out the economy just a little bit! We then got back on the road heading up towards the Seeley Lake area where we stopped for lunch at the Double Arrow Resort situated among the beautiful trees in the Seeley Valley. After a wonderful lunch of salad, chowder, and turkey sandwich, we were back on the road heading North to...

Jul 29, 2012 - More

7/23 Made an overnight stop in Cranbrook, BC to meet up with our friends the Thomson’s, to see where they grew up and met. Canada has the most beautiful Parks, wildlife, rivers and lakes but not sure how you can live there it is terribly expensive, i.e. lunch is about what we would pay for a nice dinner out at home. 7/24-28 Headed back to the good old USA, small entry crossing, no issues; destination Whitefish, Montana. Garth’s sister lives in Whitefish and she has kept up busy, busy; they had us to dinner in their home upon our arrival....

West trip 2012

Jul 9, 2012 - Big Mountain Resort, Whitefish, Montana

Today, we drove up north a little bit to the town of Whitefish for a little tourist type stuff. They have a neat donwtown area, chock full of restaurants and bar/saloons, as well as the usual t-shirt and souvenir stores. We drove a little further to Whitefish Mountain Resort on Big Mountain. Apparently, this is a great ski area in the winter. But, they have also made it into a summer destination as well. There are 2 ski lifts operating during the summer months. One takes you part way up to an Alpine Sled area and another 15 minute long...

Dec 10, 2011 - Beautiful Glacier National Park!

Today was absolute heaven for us! When we awoke, the area was cloaked in fog. Since the park is about 35 miles from our hotel, we weren't sure what we might find when we got there. I kept telling Ed to just have faith - the sun would break through by the time we got into the park. And, by golly, that's exactly what happened. And the beauty that we saw around every bend just continued to amaze us. Ed - who lived in Colorado for many years and adores the Rockies - was in absolute heaven! We weren't able to drive the entire length of the Road...

Dec 9, 2011 - Upper Montana

Today was another day of beautiful vistas as we drove from Bozeman to Whitefish, Montana (just outside Glacier National Park). We saw many large ranches - where thousands of acres of wheat were grown - and lots of cattle ranches as well. We saw a few groups of antelope - and a few deer, too. And, of course, lots of beautiful mountains - some snow covered, others covered in pine trees - but no snow. We saw men ice fishing - most of the smaller lakes were covered in ice. Swan Lake (see pictures) is considerably larger than many of the other...

Jul 28, 2011 - Whitefish, Montana, USA

Hi everyone: Before we go on to our next destination I would like to share the first two videos with you. The first is a sunset over the Mission Mountain Range of the Montana Rockies from our RV site at the Motor home Resort in Polson. The second shows a light single engine plane departing for an evening flight from a small airport that was less than 100 yards from our overnight site. We were having dinner out on the patio next out our RV when he took off and I just had to capture that moment. Boy, I never knew just how much I miss...

Jul 3, 2011 - Wandering to Whitefish, MT

We had a very unpleasant night last night. Fireworks popping until after 3 o’clock in the morning made for a sleepless night. Foxy was terrified and Joe & I took turns staying up with her in an attempt to keep her calm. In between the fireworks, we had trains competing for who could blow their horns the loudest, and a lot of highway noise. I’m as patriotic as the next guy but I’ve come to hate 4th of July weekends. I don’t mind fireworks as long as they call them off by midnight…….Oh well, two more nights of this and life should return to...

May 1, 2011 - Big Mountain.... Montana

Today we drove to the top of Big Mountain to visit the Whitefish Mountain Resort. Big Mountain is 6,817 feet high, it has awesome views of the Flathead Valley, Whitefish Lake and parts of Glacier National Park. This area gets a ton of snow. They have everything available from alpine slides, skiing, zip-lines, and the famous Walk in the Treetops. This walk takes you on a suspended boardwalk through old growth trees. We were happy just to drive the scenic drive, take pictures and enjoy the incredible views and all the wildlife. We saw deer...

Aug 22, 2010 - Glacier National Park

Today the Texas Diva’s hit the road again! We are up early and it is nippy but pretty. Rita and I get the car all loaded which you know is no small feat. David and Louann are waving good-by – and yikes, the car won’t start. After much hand wringing and fretting, David and Louann get the car started. It appears we have left Gertie plugged in all week while we were playing and she drained out battery but good! We take Hwy 22 south which avoids the freeways. It is a beautiful rural drive with mountains and wonderful views. We made one little...
