Aug 13, 2020 - Leisure day part II

We spent the morning at camp, We took Dakota to the dog park again. She sure likes running and playing in there. Later in the day we headed down into town and went to a few of the gift shops they have. It was wall to wall huckleberry items. We all got huckleberry shakes. After shopping, we headed back to camp and Lori made taco bowls for us. Tomorrow we head to Great Falls. It wasn’t on the original itinerary but Lori wanted to see where the Buffalo’s ran off the cliff. The best part of retirement is that we are completely flexible in our...

Aug 12, 2020 - Leisure day

Today was a relaxing day. We went to Columbia Falls and Kalispell to pick up some supplies and then I found a yarn store in Whitefish. I picked up some beautiful squishy yarn. Afterwards we headed back to camp and did some laundry. Rob and Lori also went into town for errands. They found a brewery to visit before heading back to camp. That evening we attempted to have a fire but the firewood had other ideas. Not sure what we will do tomorrow. Being retired a great. Good night all.

Today we got up early and headed out at 7:00am to the park. Fortunately we got in early enough that there were no lines. It was cloudy and cold but the scenery was beautiful. We headed up the Going to the Sun road towards St. Mary’s. The mountains and glaciers towered high over lakes and streams. There is a different view around each corner. Water cascades down the side of the cliff and crevices along the road. Snow and ice dotted the glaciers and cliffs along the road way. I didn’t see any bears today, but I did see a lot of ground...

It was a long drive, but we made it to West Glacier KOA. The drive was beautiful. We saw a little bear cub on the highway. The poor little thing was so scared. He was running from one side of the highway to the other. He ran straight towards our rv but turned in time and went back to the median. I hope the little guy made it back to the woods. Momma had to be close by somewhere. Further up the road was a Bison reserve. They were hanging out near a watering hole. Tomorrow we head into the park. They are limiting the number of people they let...

Sunday was a work day, up until it wasn’t. I took the Jeep into Columbia Falls for a washin’ while the domestic goddess tackled the inside of the house. We finally wrapped up those duties and about 5:30 we headed into the park for another early evening see-what-we-can-see journey; that of course ended up with us getting home at 10:30. Since we had gotten a little earlier start than usual we decided to go to Logan Pass and head out on the Hidden Lake Trail, one that we have done a couple times before. Rumor was that there had been bears out...

We were out the door Friday just before noon and on our way to Whitefish to spend the day at the really nice Whitefish Mountain Resort https://skiwhitefish.com/ to do some skiing. Just kidding, there’s no snow here yet and my snow skiing days are well behind me, but the ski lift was running so we took advantage and rode it to the top and did some hiking while we were there. The ride up starts on an open chair lift, then about 1/3 of the way up the mountain we switched to an enclosed gondola as the temps were dropping the higher we...

I have been having computer problems so I bit the bullet and did a re-installation of Winders 10. That was a lot of fun backing everything up, re-installing everything and re-doing all my settings; about a day and a half of fun. Finally, all appears to be working pretty well and so far I haven’t found too much that is out of whack. So I spent Sunday evening and almost all of Monday doing computer stuff until about 6:00 when we hit the road for our first drive up the Going to the Sun Road. The GttSR is open from our entrance on the west...

The short drive from Polson to West Glacier was beautiful and uneventful...our favorite kind. We pulled into the campground just before 1:00 and got all set up pretty quickly and other than a short trip to Coram to visit Glacier Distilling for some, uh, supplies and that was pretty much the extent of our Saturday. On Sunday we left about 10:00 and headed into Glacier National Park and instead of heading toward the ever popular Going to the Sun Road. We turned left at the first stop sign in the park and headed to one of our favorite places,...

Friday was basically a zero day. Other than some tinkering and cleaning, we used the marginal weather as an excuse to do not very much...sometimes we need these days. Saturday was a long day as we were out of bed at 7:30 and before 9:00 we were headed back onto GttSR and toward Logan Pass for a hike day in less than desirable weather; in fact the ickiest hiking day of our stay here so far. We made it to Logan Pass with the hopes of doing a secret hike we had heard about, the Triple Falls Trail, but that fell apart pretty quickly. As we made...

We awoke to pretty yucky, but at least not rainy, skies Tuesday morning so we decided to give it some time and see how things developed and that was a good choice. By noonish the clouds started to thin out a bit so Jerry and Sharon met us at the campground and we headed off into the park to do some lookin’ around and opted to save the GttSR for Wednesday’s better forecast. We hit a few spots by the lake and river like Sacred Dancing Cascades and McDonald Falls, then a quick snoop around the Lake McDonald Lodge, which is conveniently located...

Friday was a go-to-the-big-city day. For Michele’s birthday she bought herself a spa day in Whitefish...she got her nails all gussied up and a massage. Me? I played errand boy in Kalispell. A haircut, Taco Bell, Lowe’s, Walmart, Costco and then Chick-fil-A (for a gallon of sweet tea to go, not another lunch) then I picked her up and we shared a run through Safeway for some groceries on the way home. We had some iffy weather early in the day on Saturday so we waited it out till noonish and as things cleared up we decided another hike was in...

Wednesday was a do-not-much kind of day, but we both still logged over 10,000 steps which earns us more ice cream...well, today it earned us a huckleberry shake...even before we got all our steps in. We had to drop something off at the post office in “town” so we walked from the house to there, grabbed our reward shake and headed back toward home with a detour thrown in. We had heard that there is a golf course just northwest of us so we sauntered that direction. As far as golf courses go it doesn’t look all that impressive, but the...
