Jul 15, 2016 - Good Friends at Birdland Bay

Only a couple of hours drive from Glacier National Park is Thompson Falls, MT which is the summer home of good friends and fellow workampers from Rio Bend in El Centro, CA. Candy and Rich used to workamp here during the summer, but now are just bums like the rest of us for part of the year. Candy’s Mom has a summer place nearby and they have other friends in the area which makes this a great place for them to kick back and relax. There is a golf course next door which helps keep them in shape for the winter season down south. We spent the...

Today we walked around Island Park in the middle of the Thompson River. They dammed the river to produce electricity. The river as you can see is still beautiful. It was hot today so we just hung around the campground. Spent several hours talking to Larry, a camper neighbor. We also got a reservation for Sunday and Monday nights. We will go to Missoula to replace a camper tire. We will also visit the National Buffalo Reserve. We also planned the next few stops so I will work on reservations tomorrow.

To Alaska and Back

Jul 11, 2014 - Friday,July 11

Sometime in the night, we covered up with a blanket. Such is life in the desert. I woke at 5:45 and got up. Lots to do before we leave. On the road at 9 heading for a first stop at Wallace, ID, to see this old ining town. Wallace is what thois kind of place ought to look like, still inhavited with people living real lives. The old buildings have been lovingly repurposed. Old mining artfacts are used creatively on the sidewalks. There are lots of antique shops and good restaurants. We ate lunch at 1313 Club. Paul had an outstanding clam...

To Alaska and Back

Aug 8, 2010 - Thompson Falls

With Ben and Karen still in tow, we left Hungry Horse and headed west. We had found an RV park that was on a river, so that was our goal for this move. A new place and a new river. We wanted to use the Nancy Gail as much as we can before the waters started freezing over. Our route involved using Montana 200 again. The road follows this beautiful emerald green river, the Clarks Fork River for many miles so we were treated to a constantly changing scenic feast. Thompson Falls was a small town located alongside a long lake created by the local...

We did not hear from Michael this day as there was no cell coverage but now we have the update! They rode 76 miles today. --------- Sandpoint to Thompson Falls - turned out to be a much longer day than anticipated. The day became much warmer than planned and the wind was a head wind for most of the day - result being it took allot longer than planned. During this segment of the ride we crossed into our third state and went from the Pacific Time zone to the Mountain Time zone. So now I'm only off by two hours - makes coordination a little...
