Aug 22, 2009 - St. Regis, Montana

On the 21st. we left Coeur D' Alene in our rear view mirror & headed to St. Regis, Montana. Driving up I-90 through the mountains was a real treat with its mountain grades & its road construction. We played leap frog with a semi for awhile, we'd pass him when gong uphill & downhill he left us in the dust. St. Regis is a small town but big on tourists, it has very few restaurants, a casino & a large gift store (which we've already checked out). We actually decided to take a mountain drive to Lake Moore this morning, when we saw the gift...

Jul 18, 2009 - Day 38 - Packwood to St. Regis, MT

Today: 416 miles Total: 7821 miles Dale: You may have noticed that today, we took a “right turn” in WA and covered a lot of ground and ended up in Montana. I wasn’t going to write about this…but Denise feels that since this is a record of our trip (although a somewhat public one)…I should write about it here, especially…now that we are changing our plans because of it. If you read our homepage…I mentioned that my mom is one of the people we’re riding in honor of. Some of you know that she’s been fighting kidney cancer for the past 2 ½...

Aug 5, 2008 - A Day of Transition

This was a day of transition on three accounts. We left the state of Idaho ,we left our lovely young friends , and we lost an hour by going back into Mountain Time in Montana. We met quite a bit of traffic near Coeur d'Alene where there is a huge amusement park called Silverwood plus a huge water park 10 miles out of town. The drive until that point was just one beautiful lake after another. Many trucks and badly timed traffic lights on I95 just before the junction with I90 delayed us even more. I90 is a gorgeous road with lots of ups and...

Jul 3, 2008 - Bozeman, MT to St Regis, MT

Jul 03, 2008 – Thursday – Bozeman, MT to St. Regis, MT Today I forgot to set the alarm but we both awoke at the same time of 0635 which was a good thing. I did not get a good nights sleep as I woke early morning and could not get back to sleep for the road noise and train whistles? No, I think it was the fact that I could not stop in Missoula and find my ole policeman friend. I called his phone number in Minnesota and found out it was disconnected so there is a good chance he no longer is at the address I have either. Thought we might stop...

Jun 20, 2008 - Hiawatha Bike Trip

After getting the motorhome up and running we crossed back through Idaho and stopped at Lookout Mountain which in the winter is a ski area, but come spring/summer has a hiking/biking tour that goes for 12 miles but at a very gentle grade downhill(2%). One of the "attractions" of this route is that you bike through 7 or 8 tunnels of various lengths. Before you start (and when you pay your fee) they make sure you have a flashlight or headlamp before you start the course. And good thing!! At the very beginning of this trip you enter the...

Mar 25, 2008 - Back To The USA

Departed Abbottsford, B.C. around 9:00 a.m. We are heading towards Grand Forks, B.C. and then will drop down into the USA and head south to Yellowstone. I must admit that travelling in the States is about 50% cheaper than in Canada. Our hotel rooms are $40 - 50 dollars cheaper in the U.S. and our meals are definitely much less expensive than in Canada. Plus the gas works out to be cheaper as well. Our first stop was in Oosyoos, B.C. We have been here before and really liked it. There is a very dry climate and it is a city that has a lake...

Aug 22, 2007 - St Regis, Montana

We drove from Deer Lodge to St Regis, Montana. Even thought the distance was not great, we though let's just camp. We were at a National Forrest Campground, it looked nice and we get to camp at half price. It was $5.00 and we were right on a river. It was very quiet. I checked the map and it was another 120 miles to get to Post Falls, Idaho where Buck Knives has their headquarters. I'll talk about that in the next post.
