Aug 28, 2012 - Day 126, Rylee's birthday

Day 126, Tuesday, August 28, 2012 Happy Birthday Rylee! Cayden stayed home with us again today. We went outside and played with Cayden’s big dinosaur and watched him run around the outside of the house about 50 times. Cayden has been singing the “Chicken Pox Song” that he made up and plays along on a toy guitar. The lyrics are “You have the chicken pox” over and over. It’s hysterical. We took Jess and the kids out to dinner for Rylee’s birthday. Don’t know why, both kids eat about two bites and say they are full. Until its dessert time and...

Aug 27, 2012 - Day 125, still in Roundup

Day 125, Monday, August 27, 2012 Today Rob made cupcakes for Rylee to take to school for her birthday tomorrow. She needs 20 and he ended up with 19. He had to go to the store and get more cake mix and do another batch. We straightened up the house a bit because Cayden’s new Head Start teacher is coming over for a home visit after dinner. He’ll start school next week. It was hot today, about 98 degrees. It was over 100 inside the bus. We’ll have to run the generator tonight for some cool air. The fire has grown to over 30,000 acres but...

Aug 26, 2012 - Day 124, a day for change

Day 124, Sunday, August 26, 2012 I sat outside this morning and watched the kids play basketball and ride their bikes on the sidewalk. I can feel the smoke in my lungs and my eyes. The fire is over 25,000 acres now but not moving toward town. Three more deer were wandering around on the street eating plants in the neighbor’s yards. Sometimes they would get chased out and they would trot over to someone else’s yard. Our son-in-law loaded up his daughter and her belongings and moved her to his parent’s house outside of town then continued on...

Aug 25, 2012 - Day 123, birthday party for the girls

Day 123, Saturday, August 25, 2012 Today was the birthday party for the girls. We loaded up kids and cakes and presents and drove back into Billings to Chuck E. Cheese’s. Holy kid commotion! It was busy but not packed. We had six kids with us from ages 1 to 12. They all grab their tokens and run for the game machines. They work so hard to get all these tickets and when they turn the tickets in, they get some stupid little plastic junk things. But the pizza was surprisingly good and their butterfly cake was cute. Chuck E. Cheese came out for...

Aug 24, 2012 - Day 122, Rob's birthday

Day 122, Friday, August 24, 2012 Happy Birthday Rob! We expected to be spending his birthday at some yucky place in Nevada on our way home. But instead, he gets to spend it with one of our kids and some of our grandkids and me! Roundup is a nice little town but it has two major flaws (and a few minor ones). First, there is lousy cell service here that comes and goes but mostly goes. If you are standing in exactly the right spot on the porch, you might get service. Or you might not. Second, I swear the town water comes directly from Hell. It...

Aug 23, 2012 - Day 121, shopping in Billings

Day 121, Thursday, August 23, 2012 Happy Birthday little Beau! Today is his first birthday and he is sick with a fever and throwing up. Poor baby. We’ll celebrate his birthday when we get home. We drove back into Billings today while the kids were in school. We have some birthday shopping to do for the girls. We seem to have a lot of birthdays all at once. So we spent the day having lunch, shopping, and looking for fairies to put on the birthday cake. We never found fairies, so we settled for butterflies. At night before we go to bed, we...

Aug 22, 2012 - Day 120, Roundup

Day 120, Wednesday, August 22, 2012 Roundup is pretty warm too with temperatures in the 90’s. We park our RV in our daughter’s lower yard with an extention cord hookup. With only 15 amps, we can’t run the air conditioner. There are supposedly 2 RV Parks in Roundup, but when we looked at them, one only has about three small sites and the other is basically in a motel parking lot right on Main Street. No go, we’ll live with 15 amps. As we were getting dinner on the table, a deer with twin spotted fawns walked right down the middle of the...

Aug 21, 2012 - Day 119, return to Roundup

Day 119, Tuesday, August 21, 2012 We left Missoula this morning and headed east on Highway 90. We are taking an unplanned trip back to Roundup, Montana to spend some time with our daughter and grandkids who are going through some family drama. It was a long 400 mile drive (this is a really big state). The air is still really thick with smoke from wildfires and it never got any better as we drove. I couldn’t even take any pictures. Montana is cattle country with rolling hills which are covered with brown grass right now. There were several...

May 7, 2012 - Day 13, back to Roundup

This morning was bright and sunny without a cloud in the sky. And considerably warmer. Of course, we had to head home. The grandkids came with us in the bus and Jess and Terry in the truck. We stopped in Billings to talk to someone about our satellite TV on the bus that Rob can’t get to work. He has called and talked to 10 people on the phone and gets 10 different answers that don’t work out. Turns out we had a bad receiver and none of that advice would have ever worked. Two hours later, after they programmed the new box, we are back on the...

Day 8, Wednesday, May 2, 2012 Quiet day at home with the kids. Day 9, Thursday, May 03, 2012 This morning I went to “school” with Cayden, who is 3. He sees a speech therapist for a half hour and he wanted Nana to go with him today. He did a great job. Day 10, Friday, May 4, 2012 Getting ready to take the kids camping in the morning.

May 1, 2012 - Day 7, Roundup, Montana

From Buffalo, the scenery was prettier, with mountains to the west (and snow on top) and green rolling hills. We passed through Sheridan and crossed the line into Montana. More rolling hills, more antelope. We stopped at an RV dealership in Billings to get a part to try to fix the bathroom door. Fortunately, they had something in stock and I can now shut the bathroom door. I’m happy. We reached Roundup this afternoon and parked in Jessica’s lower yard. This is a nice small town of about 2,000 people. Weather is cloudy and chilly and it’s...
