Pompey’s Pillar (like Red Rock Canyon in Hardin, Oklahoma) is a “Signature Rock” which is where pioneers carved their names into the soft sandstone while traveling west. Pompey’s Pillar has been used even earlier in time by Native American who left pictographs. Of the pioneers the most noteworthy name carved in Pompey’s Pillar was Clark's of Lewis & Clark.
