Aug 23, 2019 - Glacier and Flathead Lake

West from Minot we continued down to the 94 and 90 through Billings, Butte and on to Polson on Flathead. Scenery changed from farmland to high desert and then mountains as we crossed over the great divide at almost 7,000 feet. Got to our campground at Eagle Nest. Nice layout. Paved and some grass. Pool, spa, ect. Great views of the mountains and lake. Did some exploring and did a preview of Glacier National Park. Such a beautiful place. We also went on a little hike up the mountain about 2.8 miles each way. Was in the mid to high 80s and it...

Jul 4, 2018 - Trekking to Polson

Today we traveled across Montana to Polson. This is one of Susan and my favorite places. The drive here is not that scenic until you get about 50 miles from Polson. The mountains start to rise out of the plains and many a snow covered even in July. You travel through several Indian reservations that are very different from the ones in the Southwest. Much more prosperous. You also pass by the National Bison Refuge. We actually saw some Bison as we worked our way north. As you crest the road, Flathead lake comes into view. It is one of the...

Jun 29, 2018 - Polson, Montana

Today, we relocate to our second campground in Polson. Around 10:30, we head to Walmart. There is always a couple of things to pick up. We then head to our Bay Cruise on the Shadow. We find the casino and the boat and there is parking. Good start. Boarding starts at 11:30. We sail at 12:00. Polson is on the southern end of Flathead Lake. Polson Bay is a part of the lake. The cruise is around the bay. It is a little cool. I guess those in record setting heat don’t want to hear this. Mind you, I am not complaining. It is warm enough to sit...

Jun 28, 2018 - Polson, Montana

Last night was a late night for us. We both sleep well. I am awake at 5:00. I look out the window and realize that it is going to be a spectacular sunrise. I quickly dress and grab my camera. I let John sleep. At the office, I have a perfect view of Flathead Lake. What a great way to start the day! Unfortunately, “Red sky in the morning, sailor take warning!” We use the morning to “catch up.” At 11:00, I call about the Flathead Lake Boat Tour. It has been canceled. Rats. After lunch, we decide to take a motorcycle ride to a winery, about...

Jun 27, 2018 - Polson, Montana

It is a full day but productive and wonderful. We drive one and a half hours from Deer Lodge to Missoula. It is a beautiful ride even at seventy miles per hour. This is a scenic Interstate. In Missoula, we make a loop through the city: Late breakfast, CVS 1, CVS 2 (Prescription Filled). Valvoline Oil Change. Groceries? No. We’ve had enough of “City Life”. We leave Missoula by the Interstate. Shortly, we turn north on Route 93. We do some climbing. The RV is running great. The scenery is again beautiful. I wish I had my camera ready for...

Jun 20, 2017 - On to Polson

Today we got up early because we had to drive through the mountains to Missoula, Montana where we had to pick up a car for our stay at Flathead Lake. The drive from Salmon to Missoula was truly breathtaking. We were told at the campground that we should plan on at least 2 and 1/2 hours to cover the 100 miles because of the switchbacks in the mountains. They knew what they were talking about! The mountains rise to an elevation of over 10,000 feet. They were still snow covered. The trail along the Salmon river was the route followed by Lewis...

May 17, 2016 - Miracle of America Museum

Miracle of America Museum is an unusual museum, there is anything & everything there. Its unbelievable how much stuff is piled inside & outside of the buildings. It was hard to get decent photos, fencing was around most of the artifacts (inside the buildings). But we did the best we could. There are over 70 vintage cycles & over 3000 pieces of motorcycling memorabilia. Displays range from the military, UFO's, a 50's Diner, air planes, helicopters, bicycles, clothing, signs & the list goes on & on.

May 9, 2016 - Day 2 of our trip to Polson, Montana

We are now in Polson, Montana, but here are our photos from the remainder of out trip here. Our drive took us up Hwy's 12 & 93. We are staying at Eagles Nest RV Park, which is very close to Flathead Lake (one HUGE lake). The RV park is quite nice & the people here are extremely accommodating (I say that for a good reason) they are allowing us to work on our rig. On our way here (on Hwy 93) we hit a piece of metal (which Pete could not avoid) it flew up under the 5th-wheel. We heard all the noise under the rig, but didn't really see where...

Jul 25, 2015 - Flathead Valley

Camping in Polson, MT near Flathead Lake. Our last couple of days driving have been on I-90 and has actually been a pleasure - very light traffic and no idiots on the road - much different than I-10 and I-45 around Houston. We have crossed the continental divide again and crossed one pass at 6500 ft which was a short but steep climb. We have found that downtown areas of Billings, Bozeman, and Missoula are really nice. Yesterday we wanted to stop in downtown Missoula but could not find a place to park the RV so we continued on. Since we had...

Jul 5, 2015 - Last Day in Polson - Trip to the National Bison Range

This is our last day in Polson. Last night I was able to stay awake to watch the fireworks from our motorhome. The show began at 10:30 p.m. sharp and lasted 15 minutes. I watched it with Penny. Jerry was in bed! I wasn't sure I was going to be able to stay up till 10:30 but I ended up talking with a young family of five who were in a site next to ours about their experiences as first time RVers. The conversation ended at 10 p.m. so I was able to stay awake. The couple with three children bought an older diesel pusher just before going on...

Jul 2, 2015 - Kayaking to Wild Horse Island

At 7:00 a.m. we were meeting our hosts who were renting us kayaks for a special adventure. There were three other people also renting kayaks. We were taken to a public boat ramp to put in and kayak to Wild Horse Island which is in Flathead Lake. The island got its name because centuries ago native people used the island to hide horses from the raids of enemies. Those horses are long gone but the Federal Bureau of Land Management has provided horses that exist very well on the island today. We've only been kayaking a few times but off we...
