Read and rate Travel Journal Entries for Missouri River Headwaters State Park, Montana, United States

Aug 17, 2012 - Three Forks, MT

Lat night we camped at Missouri River Headwaters State Park near Three Forks, MT. This is where the Missouri is formed at the confluence of the Madison, Jefferson and Gallatin rivers. It's a pretty area with lots of willows and chokecherries - which we were happy to eat! We hiked along the river and saw some whitetail deer, beaver and mink. We understand there are moose in the area but didn't see any but haven't given up! Now, for the educational portion of the program, can you answer this? The name of the Missouri River is derived from an...

Sep 8, 2011 - Certificate Of Appreciation

Jerry Walker came out this morning to say thank you and gave us all a Certificate of Appreciation, we were a bit embarrassed because he was so complimentary and appreciative of our work here. We spent most of the day tying up loose ends around the park and the coach so we can leave in the morning.

Sep 6, 2011 - Sore Butt Muscles

NASCAR was in Atlanta this weekend and the Sprint Cup race was rained out on Sunday so it was postponed until this morning. A bottle of Turtle Wax later and the coach is finally finished just in time for lunch and a chance to watch the last 75 laps of the race. My butt muscles are sore from climbing up and down the ladder a few dozen times over the last week washing and waxing the coach. Greg and I sealed another eleven tables this afternoon so all we have left is two and that's about the end of our projects for this year. Mary went into...

Sep 4, 2011 - Halibut Tacos

It got down to 28F here last night, got up this morning too a coat of frost on everything. Didn't think too much about last night's frost until I went back to the garden and seen all the plants were wilted and laying over. I got a good start at waxing the coach today. This evening we were invited up Clark and Debbie's for halibut tacos. They built a beautiful log cabin home up on a hill over looking the Missouri river valley a few miles north of the park.

Sep 2, 2011 - How To Remove A Hornets Nest!

Clark removed the hornets nest this morning Montana style, with a 12 gauge shotgun. One last mowing and trimming at the info center area and only because that area has a sprinkler system. I can't believe that all of the zucchini, cucumbers, tomatoes and peas are all still producing flowers, looks like Clark will have enough zucchini and tomatoes to open a vegetable stand after we leave.

Sep 1, 2011 - The Chevy Is Alive & Well

While driving through the campground this evening the lady in campsite 16 called me over to show me the largest hornets nest I've ever seen. Put a coat of water sealer on the three picnic tables down at the confluence. John and Scott brought our old Chevy pick-up back from Dillon, the dealer said it was just a bad oil sending unit. Happy to have the Chevy back, I sure like that old truck. Washed the roof and one side of the coach before running out of daylight.

Aug 31, 2011 - Justin & Julie On Their Way

Yesterday afternoon while Mary was at the Belgrade Senior Center for bingo I worked on the coach cleaning the a/c filters, cleaning the ceiling mirror, tightening hinges and replacing door latches because it was cold and rainy outside. Justin and Julie the young couple from Canada got their van back this afternoon so they pulled out headed for Yellowstone.

Aug 30, 2011 - Advice For The Winter

Put a coat of water sealer on about ten of our picnic tables today. Mary went into the Bozeman senior center to play bingo and got back to her winning way. My last banjo lesson was tonight, Jeff's advice for me to concentrate on for the winter is to work on timing, left hand exercises, consistency and sit in on some jam sessions when we get back to the Rio Grande.

Aug 29, 2011 - Is That Neighborly Or What?

Had a guy stop by to inquire about the John Coulter 6K Run that is coming up September 10th, I don't want to sound sarcastic but I think he should be inquiring into any openings for playing Santa Claus. Cooled down into the eighties today and had a quickie storm blow through around 4PM. Yesterday a young couple from British Colombia pulled in driving an older GMC van and the transmission went out as they pulled into their campsite. While they were down at the confluence later taking their dog for a swim they told their story to some folks...
