Jun 14, 2018 - Re-provisioning in Lolo

We took a little timeout to do a "Reset". A reset includes paying bills, grocery, fuel, propane, waters, and etc. We found a pretty nice site at an RV park called the Dance Center. It is a couple miles west of Lolo on Highway 12. This place caters to square dancing. And no, I do not square dance. Besides, I hate hate hate country music. It has rained hard for about the last 4 days. Reminds me of Portland Oregon when I was a kid and my toes had grown together to form webs. This has made this campground a little muddy, but it would be...

May 19, 2017 - Day 20 - Leave ID and Arrive Lolo, MT

Today’s ride to Lolo, MT was a fun ride with friends, Justin and Ashtyn, fellow Transamerica Bike Trail riders. The ride was a 52-mile journey with 2,300’ of ascent. Lolo, population 3,892 at elevation 3,199’, is not town or city, but a “census-designated place”. The name "Lolo" probably evolved from "Lou-Lou," a pronunciation of "Lawrence," a French-Canadian fur trapper killed by a grizzly bear and buried at Grave Creek. The first written evidence of the name "Lolo" appears in 1831 when Hudson's Bay Company fur trader John Work refers in...

Jun 19, 2015 - Square Dance RV Park Where? Lolo?!

Lovely scenic drive along 199 miles of wild river road. Is there anyplace else that has that? Other than say, Alaska? Thsi river is cute enchanting with oxbow lakes, white water, calm water and pretty much not a building for the entirety of it. The river banks are green with grass and evergreens. Nice to be in slightly more humid climes. The Rv park double as the local square dance fixture for miles around. Here I was looking forward to dusting off my third grade dosey doe's when come to find out...it's ROUND DANCE night!! What is THAT??...

Jun 7, 2014 - Day off trip June 3rd and 10th.

Two trips we made in two different directions. The Gold Mining Ghost town, a nice drive out and back, this was up in the Mountains, a long way from anything. The trip to Thompson Falls was great, the water coming over the Falls reminded me of Niagara Falls, it was a small town, had a great lunch at a Cafe there.

May 11, 2014 - Lolo Montana

Arrived Lolo, Montana, we were early so stayed at Square Dance Campground, on Tuesday 13th, we checked into Lolo Creek national forest campground to begin our Camp Host job on Friday 16th. It is a beautiful wooded campground, the Host site is real big and nice, the Rangers had a big stack of wood cut for us, they are all very nice and helpful. This is beautiful country, we take a lot of pictures but you just can't see all the beauty that you see with your eyes. We have seen Elk, Mule Deer, Moose, Mountain goats, but not the Big Horn yet,...

Jul 24, 2013 - Music-filled Week

Our week long stay in Lolo, Montana was filled with music. We attended the 26th International Choral Festival held in nearby Missoula. It is a non-competitive event that was started in 1987 and hosts choirs from around the world. There were choirs from Estonia, Taiwan, China, Canada, Finland, Switzerland, Germany, Costa Rica, and Poland. We’ve never attended a choral festival. We weren’t sure what to expect or if we would even like the music. To our surprise, we really enjoyed the event. We particularly enjoyed the two Canadian youth...

Jul 21, 2013 - Showing Signs of Aging

I don’t know how it happened, but I am showing signs of old age. My skin, which was once nice and shiny, is starting to look a little bit dull and chalky in some places. I still bear tiny pockmarks from the hailstorm that swept through South Dakota two years ago. My decals are peeling off and my slide out awning is starting to tear. Art had to replace my water pump but the RV salesperson was surprised it lasted as long as it did. But what can you expect from me? I am six years old and have been driven over 34,000 miles. Most of the signs of...

Sep 17, 2012 - Lolo Square Dance RV

I have been very lazy about doing updates this week. By the time you read this one, we will have already moved on. I will be catching up over the next week. We totally enjoyed our time at the Square Dance RV Park in Lolo, Montana. The RV sites are huge and it is filled with trees and wildlife. We had 14 turkeys that visited almost every day, tons of woodpeckers, nuthatches, rabbits, deer and more. The owner of the park is also deeply into Square Dancing. He teaches dancing and is the caller for the dances. We were invited to take a lesson...
