Jun 9, 2019 - Glacier Natioal Park and on to Livingston

A good nights rest and off for a early start today as the internet was not working at the hotel. Some breakfast at the hotel packed up the car and got a full tank of Gas it is cheaper now 2.90 a gallon, much better then in CA at 4.50 a gallon, LOL and off to West Glacier National Park can only drive up 14 miles on the way to the Sun road as it is still closed with snow, they are hoping to have it fully open by the 22 of June, so will not be able to do it as I will be in Kansas so may have to make another trip sometime, LOL. Then I drive...

Another adventure

May 16, 2019 - Livingston MT

On Wednesday we pretty much took the day off. I was up by 7:30 and commenced to editing some pics while the laundry lady slept in till about 9:30...then she threw another load of clothes in the washing machine shortly after she stumbled out of bed. About 11:00 we took off to get some lunch and do a short drive along East River Road where a neighbor had told me he had seen a moose a couple days ago. No moose, but we did try out the Follow Yer Nose BBQ http://www.followyernosebbq.com/ in the booming metropolis of Emigrant only about 5...

We did it all over again on Tuesday on much the same schedule but with a lot more ground covered. This time when we got to Mammoth we continued south instead of turning toward Lamar on our way to Norris Geyser Basin where we turned toward Canyon Village. On the way we ran into a huge bear jam just before Roaring Mountain but because parking was so limited we opted to press onward. As we pushed on toward Canyon the snow on the ground got heavier and by the time we parked it was easy to tell that this area is almost 1,200 feet higher than...

May 12, 2019 - Livingston MT

Sunday morning we had our going-away breakfast at the hotel, checked out of our cabin then headed back to our fast house so Michele could start doing piles and piles of laundry. She got them going and by 11:00 we were headed north to Livingston then west on I-90 to Bozeman for some restocking and a very special Mother’s Day lunch...at Backcountry Burger Bar on Main Street. We tried to find someplace a bit more fitting for the occasion, but most places didn’t open till 5:00. On Mother’s Day? Isn’t that supposed to be one of the most popular...

We got to the Yellowstone’s Edge RV Park about 1:30 and after we got all set up, ate some leftovers then we headed back about 18 miles to an Albertson’s in Livingston to do some stocking up for our 3 day animal quest, then called it a night. Well, except for taking some pics of the beautiful mountains surrounding the campground. The area is called the Paradise Valley and it’s easy to see why with the Gallatin mountain range along the west side and the higher Absaroka’s to the east with the Yellowstone River – the longest un-dammed river in...

Sep 7, 2017 - Can't See the Forest for the Smoke

September 7, 2017 Can't See the Forest for the Trees, or the Smoke Yesterday I heard there are 80 wildfires burning out west. We are lucky to have so many dedicated firefighters willing to put themselves in harm's way to protect the lives and property of those in the path. But I want to reassure you that there is no such thing as global warming. Ha! Before the jet stream went the “wrong” way and brought heavy smoke our way it was clear and beautiful in Bellingham where I was hanging out with Radar for three days. It is a beautiful small...

Aug 25, 2017 - Livingston, MT

We drove from Shelby to Livingston, MT. Again we got to drive through the beautiful Missouri River valley on the way to Three Rivers, MT. I was good to be in the Rockies again but the Jeep had to work hard. Stayed at Osen's RV Park. On Saturday it was home chores in the morning. In the afternoon we drove down to Chico Hot Springs for a welcome soak. That evening we went into Livingston and had dinner at Glenn's Patio Restaurant, lovely!!

Jun 8, 2017 - St. Mary's KOA (Glacier NP) - St Mary's MT

Glacier National Park On June 8 we left the Yellowstone area for Glacier. Our drive took us from Belgrade, MT north through the beautiful gorge the Missouri River cut into the rocks. The little hamlet of St Mary which is on the eastern edge of Glacier is where we stayed in a KOA. Glacier National Park has a road called “Going to the Sun” that goes from the eastern border of the park to the western border. It was early in the season and the road was not open at the pass. We could only drive 12 miles into the park. On Friday we drove that...

Jun 4, 2017 - Yellowstone's Edge RV Park - Livingston MT

As we continue our western journey we find ourselves approaching more of the rugged Rocky Mountains. Our next campground is right on the shore of the Yellowstone River. The guys were excited to get the fishing gear out but it was quickly apparent that the river was not only bursting out of it’s banks in some places but also roaring out of the mountains. The outfitters they consulted discouraged them from any river fishing for now. Harry and Jackie’s son, Harrison is in the Air Force and was traveling from Alaska down to Florida for his next...

Sep 11, 2016 - Livingston, MT - Osen's RV Park & Campground

The trip from Garrison to Livingston was one of the prettiest we had so far this year. It covered 158 miles with many, many ranches in a golden valley between two mountain ranges, one with a dusting of new snow last night. We crossed the Continental Divide just east of Butte which involved a pretty good three-mile 6% climb and then a five-mile 6% descent at 25 MPH. The Mothership handled it and many more smaller hills very well. We also managed to give her a healthy 75 gallon drink with about 35 miles left on the trip - she was thirsty!! We...

Sep 26, 2015 - Just a long travel day

We usually have some broad plans of what we would like to do and see well in advance, but one item crept up on us and caught us off guard. Our driver's licenses in South Dakota. They are due in February and April next year, but as most of you can imagine, we don't want to be in that part of our beautiful country at that time of the year. We can renew up to 180 days early, so we are making tracks to our "home state" to take care of this problem before winter gets a grip on this area. We rolled out onto I-90 east this morning and stopped...

Dream On

Aug 9, 2015 - From Helena to Livingston, MT

Hello from Livingston in southwest MT on the Yellowstone River. Population is under 10,000 at the last census so definitely not a big city and they like to say they are the ‘original gateway city to Yellowstone National Park.’ We found a very nice campground here for the next week, Osen’s RV Park. We have a beautifully shaded spot right next to the dog park and Murphy has already met some new friends! Dick had a longer drive today, 177 miles but all on I-15 and I-90 and on a Sunday the traffic was pretty light so we had no problems getting...
