Jun 4, 2013 - Yellowstone
I posted what I thought was a representative sample of Yellowstone, highlighting some of the wildlife as well as the various types of landscape. We spent 5 days driving the various roads and could have easily spent 10 days. We highly recommend experiencing Yellowstone, especially if you have children. Hope you enjoy these photos. We are back in Oregon until December when we will begin a new chapter of our adventures. We will be in and out of the valley until September 20 when we settle in until after Christmas.

May 25, 2013 - Little Bighorn Battlefield
We spent two days at a remote town along highway 212 on our way from Custer, SD to Yellowstone Park. Our RV Park was the 7th Ranch RV Park, located on a working ranch and owned by a couple in their fifties. The park was very nice and are t to the park we could observe horses and cattle in the pastureland. We understand shy Montana is called Big Sky Country as the rolling hills and sky seem to go on forever. Five miles away is the Little Bighorn Battlefield Monument and museum. It is also a national cemetery, the only other national cemetery...

We left Rapid City, ND for Garryowen, Montana this morning. Took a side trip to see the Devil's Tower one of the pictures is attached. We then continued on to Montana. We got our first glimpse of the Rocky Mountains, what a sight. After arriving at the campground I drove over to Custers Last Stand battlefield at the little big horn. Brenda was not interested. I spent about 2 hours going over the way this battle unfolded. Tomorrow we will finally arrive at our destination West Yellowstone, Montana. Oh so tired will sign off now.

Aug 24, 2012 - Little Big Horn
We drove about 240 miles today. We are at Little Big Horn. Custer's last stand. We watched a video on it and then the ranger told all about the battle. It was very interesting. They have tomb stones up for all the soldiers right where they died. They could tell where they died because the soldiers that didn't die buried them and the officers they made a marker with there name on it. The enlisted men they put there names on a piece of paper and put them in a shell casing and buried it with them. We went home and had left overs for supper...

Aug 15, 2012 - The Little Big Horn Battlefield
We continued our detour from Lewis and Clark, at least the 1805 outbound leg as we will head toward the Yellowstone River and follow it upstream. Clark followed the Yellowstone on the return trip along Sacajawea, her son Pomp and husband and about half of the Corps. But our objective for the day is the Little Big Horn Battlefield. What can one really say about the Battle of the Little Big Horn? It WAS something to see the actual field try and understand how the battle unfolded. It was haunting to look out over the site and see the white...

Aug 14, 2012 - Montana/Wyoming
After leaving the northern Yellowstone area we headed to Garryowen, MO & Little Big Horn. We camped on a working horse ranch that had an RV Park, wonderful secluded area where you could see for miles and expected the Indians to crest one of the hills at any time. We went into Garryowen, which is named for an Irish song that Custer's troops sang before a battle and toured the museum and watched a movie of Custer's last stand. This made our trip to the actual battle grounds National Park even more meaningful. We stayed two days and leaving we...

Aug 10, 2012 - Little Big Horn National Park
We visited the Little Big Horn National park: The Battle of the Little Bighorn is one of the most famous battles in American History. On June 25 and 26 1876, more than 260 soldiers and attached personnel of the Custer''s U.S. 7th Cavalry met defeat and death at the hands of Lakota and Cheyenne. Custer violated the treaty of 1868 where the government promised to protect the Indians "against the commission of all dependent by people of the United States". Peace, however, was not to last. In 1874 gold was discovered in the Black Hills, the...

We take our time this morning. We are moving about 1 ½ hour to the southeast. It is an easy drive but on the Interstate. There is a whole lot of emptiness out here. At the RV Park, we gather information. We are close to Little Bighorn Battlefield National Monument. We decide to spend our afternoon here. We check in at the Visitor Center. There are bus tours but the first one today is at 2:00. This does not work for us. We do things in reverse. We drive the battlefield first. We watch the movie second. I would like to say that I had an...

Jun 17, 2012 - 1st Day in Montana
Due to the time change we were able to sleep an hour later this morning. We left about 7:30 and were able to see mountains just after leaving Wall. We are really in Big Sky country now, seems that we can see forever. We spoted antelope in Wyoming along with the amazing views. We are staying at the 7th Ranch campground accross from the Little Big Horn battle field. Hope to stop here on the way home for a day to really get to see it. Tomorrow is our last day in the good old USofA for a while. We should get into Alberta on Tuesday. Raining now...

Sep 28, 2011 - Slings and arrows
We blew right past our anticipated destination of Columbus, MT today and traveled 275 total miles to the 7th Ranch RV Camp in Garryowen instead. We are located only a few miles from the location of Custer's last stand, thus the slings and arrows title. This is our first time at this park since May of 2006, just a couple of months after we began our full time travels. The trees have grown out a little and a few nice amenities have been added to the park It is mostly the same as our previous visit. The Good Sam nightly rate is $35 for a long...

Today we drove from Medora, ND to Garryowen, MT – six miles from Little Bighorn Battlefield National Monument. Tomorrow we'll tour the battlefield, but today was an interesting day of changing landscapes and weather. Soon after we left Medora, we also left the scenic beauty of the North Dakota Badlands. But it was a change from one beautiful kind of scenery to another. After leaving Medora, we entered the Dakota Prairie Grasslands, one of 20 publicly owned National Grasslands administered by the USDA Forest Service. They are “beautiful...

Last night was the first night in about a month that we had darkness to sleep in, that was a blessing. We took our time this morning, but still got off at 09:15. Val made some scrambled eggs with cheese & salsa, with toast for breakfast. We hit the road and headed for Southeast Montana to get to the Little Bighorn area. Took a 2 lane scenic highway out of Great Falls East and then South to Billings. Got gas in Billings and then continued to the Crow Reservation. We stopped in Hardin at a visitors center to get info on the Park and a place...
