Jul 7, 2016 - Fort Smith, Montana

We had visitors from Seattle, Darin and Diane Hawk. We know them from our HitchHiker friends. We took them up to the dam and then out on the lake in our boat. I'll just post all the pictures with no commentary. The screnery is why we are here. We never tire of it.

Jun 28, 2016 - Fort Smith, Montana

We went out on the lake again. We had much to do since the last time on the water and the weather was not ideal. Susan and I took the boat out on the lake by ourselves. We didn't have any problems. I fished and caught 4 fish, only two big enough to eat. No Walleye though. Then on the 28th we went out with Jim and Jeanette again for fishing. The weather turned nasty so we didn't go that far and fished in the same place as we did when we were by ourselves. I caugh two and kept one. When we decided to go back the engine would not start. We...

Jun 6, 2016 - Fort Smith, Montana

We took the boat out on the lake for lession on unloading, loading, and parking. Jim and Jeanette Shcroder were our instructors. We launched the boat and then for two hours practiced docking. It is not as easy as you might think. It is not like a car where you have a brake pedal. The slowere you are going the less stearing you have. We did OK and did no damage to the boat. We loaded the boat with no problem. I went down to the river and caught one fish, but it was a carp. Most of our time is spent at our lot doing chores, using our smoker,...

Jul 3, 2014 - Fort Smith, Montana Garage Construction

Today they finally started construction of the garage. It will be 32 feet long, 24 feet wide and 12 feet tall with a 20 foot wide door that is 10 feet tall. It will house a pontoon boat, my Mustang, and a stuff to use while in Montana (like a deep freeze, a refrigerator, yard stuff, and a work bench.

Jun 25, 2014 - Fort Smith, Montana

I can't believe how bad I have been in updating this travel journal. Well we made it to Fort Smith so that we could get our garage built. The weather here has been very Spring like. We have had rain, not a lot, just enough to keep the grass growing. My neighbor across the street was the guy I wanted to build my garage. He is a mason and he was going to do it out of block. After being here two weeks he finally gave me his price. Unfortunately his price was more than he let me to believe and it was about $30,000 more than I can afford. So I...

Jun 24, 2014 - Friends & Yellowtail Dam

While in the area I visited Jeff & Susan Collingwood at their summer property in Ft. Smith, MT. I meet Jeff & Susan through the NuWa/HitchHiker Owners Forum. They leaned that I was in the area from the 'Were are you' subject on the Forum, were members post their current location. Yellowtail Dam is a dam across the Bighorn River in south central Montana. The mid-1960s era concrete arch dam serves to regulate the flow of the Bighorn for irrigation purposes and to generate hydroelectric power. The dam and its reservoir, Bighorn Lake, are...

Sep 11, 2013 - Fort Smith, Montana

Just before we left Fort Smith we went out on the lake fishing with Jim and Jeanette. Just when we were in high gear having fun, the engine on the boat suddenly stopped. We ended up trying to get back the 20 miles with the electric trolling motor. We got about 1 mile before the battery died. Then a fellow boater tried to tow us back to the dock. We got about 10 miles before they had to stop towing us because their engine was running hot. When they got back to the dock they told the ranger about us. Shortly the ranger showed up and towed us...

Aug 21, 2013 - Fort Smith, Montana

After spending one night at Jim and Jeanette's house we met up with Susan's brother and his wife, Mike and Marsha. They followed us from Billings to Fort Smith. I was pleased to find the the concrete slab had been poured. It was only 3 days old so I kept it wet for good curing. Jim and Jeanette came to Fort Smith and took all of us out on the lake. Now Mike and Marsha understand why we bought the property. They stayed about 3 nights and then headed home to Chula Vista.

May 28, 2013 - Fort Smith and Billings, Montana

After we finally got out of Nebraska and the freezing conditions we headed to Billings to visit with Jim and Jeanette Schroeder. The day we left we were going to lay over in a small town west of Sturgis, South Dakota. We we passed through Rapid City, and then Sturgis there was considerable snow on the ground. This would have made it impossible to get into a campground. Just as we got within about 5 miles of Belle Forche the snow was all gone, so we pulled in and stayed the night. The campground was a dump, but it was interesting in that it...

Sep 8, 2012 - Fort Smith, Montana

Rick and Virgie visited us on our property for a few days. They got to see all the sites on both land and on the lake. When we left Fort Smith on September 8 we had to stop as horses were in the road. Around there anything could be in the road, horses, cows, deer, you name it.

Aug 22, 2012 - Fort Smith, Montana

Since my last post we have been back to Billings and back to Fort Smith again. We are in Fort Smith right now. While in Billings we went to Red Lodge and drove in the back country for the beautiful scenery. The trip was fun. We also drove up the Beartooth mountains with Jim and Jeanette to celebrate their 49th wedding anniversary. At the top they drank champagne while it was snowing on them lightly. Susan also went with Jeanette to the golf course, Jeanette played and Susan drove the cart. The last two days we went boating and fishing on...

Aug 11, 2012 - Fort Smith, Montana

Things are progressing on our lot. The water is all done, the sewer is all done. I had to have one of the two laterals cleaned as it was stopped up with roots. I even had to break the top of the sewer connection off because the cap was rusted on. The pipe was cast iron so I could break it with a hammer. I then got a rubber coupling to convert from cast iron to plastic. I did this myself and had the plumber snake the lateral. The electric line was laid and the trench back-filled, but the dual RV pedestal is proving hard to get. Hopefully it...
