Sep 10, 2017 - East Glacier

We didn't know what to expect when we started out this day. The news was full of information about the fires and air quality. The campground where we had reservations said it was OK to come and if we didn't want to stay we were free to leave. Early views of the mountains confirmed our decision to GO TO GLACIER. When we arrived at the campground we were surprised to find out it was a gorgeous day. There was a little smoke in the air but nothing to prevent us from staying. Since it was so beautiful we took advantage of the almost clear air...

Jul 12, 2015 - Glacier National Park

We arrived at Whitefish/Glacier last Thursday. But today we hiked the Two Medicine Trail on the east side of Glacier. It was a strenuous hike uphill. We hiked probably 3 miles and because of the altitude, we stopped and started back down. We were above the treeline and could see glaciers across the valley. We plan to take the park service shuttle this week along Going To The Sun Road. Pictures attached are a little dark because its been raining for the last day or so and still alot of clouds in the sky. At least the rain helped to clear...

The Bright Side

Jul 9, 2015 - The Ten Commandments

Have you ever heard the Starbucks routine by comic Lewis Black? While in Houston, Lewis was standing on a corner and saw two Starbucks directly across the street from each other. He put together a really funny comic routine ranting about seeing a Starbucks across from a Starbucks. Here is a Youtube video on his routine: Lewis Black on Starbucks Well, in some of the cities we’ve passed in Montana, it isn’t Starbucks that you see directly across the street from each other. What you see are huge, bulletin boards displaying the Ten...

Sep 10, 2014 - What's Up with This?

Today’s short drive from Columbia Falls to East Glacier caught us by surprise. The weather during our stay has been nice with temperatures ranging from the low 40s at night to the mid 70s during the day. But things cooled a bit yesterday and this morning was cold and damp as I packed up. Well it was actually a little more than damp as a light rain fell throughout the process. We left Columbia Falls RV Park at 11:00 in a steady rain. As we headed east we would gain elevation from about 3000 feet above sea level to about 5500 feet in Marias...

Jul 3, 2014 - Beaver Pond Loop/1913 Ranger Station

The trailhead for the Beaver Pond Loop hike is located next to the Historic 1913 Ranger Station near St. Mary. Built in 1913, the ranger station was among the first Park Service structures on the east side of Glacier. It served as permanent housing, and later as seasonal housing, for rangers until 1969. In 1972 the ranger station was added to the National Register of Historic Places, and in 1975 was restored back to its 1913-1920 appearance. While hiking I passed a couple of hikers, that looked familiar. Turns out they were HitchHiker...
