Apr 12, 2013 - Stanton Stopover

We hit the superslab bright and early this morning. Except for a little bridge repair near Joplin, the roads were good and the traffic was relatively light. We weren't in any great rush so we stopped several times for breaks and lunch. We topped off our fuel in Sullivan, MO and called it a day when the winds got pretty blustery. We will trek on through St. Louis tomorrow and stop somewhere in Illinois depending on how the weather holds up.

Jul 6, 2012 - No Relief from the Heat - Yet

The heat wave continues. We rolled out of Joplin at 7:30 a.m. in hopes of beating the worst of the sizzling temps forecast for us today. It was an uneventful ride, a few rest stops for us & Foxy and a fuel stop in Sullivan, MO.........$3.44 for diesel; it's been a while since we've paid that low for diesel. We made the mistake of deciding to have lunch at Denny's at Flying J. The food was painfully slow coming out of the kitchen, good when we got it; but, it took forever. Luckily, we have run the generator in the coach so Foxy would have...

Sep 21, 2011 - More of THE MOTHER ROAD

This morning Bob and Phyl were walking around the campground when they spotted an oddity. There in front of their eyes was a Corvette parked in prep for towing a TT. Spoke with the driver and wife for confirmation. The TT was just a little pop-up, but it was mind boggling to think about a Corvette pulling it. They said they were traveling THE MOTHER ROAD also. After breakfast and packing up Bob and Phyl started on their way. Today's objective was to see several places along THE ROUTE and stay in Stanton, MO for the night. They started out...

Retirement Rocks!!

Jul 14, 2010 - Stanton, MO

A long hot day of driving made even longer by the air conditioning failure in last night's cabin. No one slept well so we were quite tired today. At any rate, we are within a short day's drive from home. Every time I made a long cross country drive, the last day or so seems like the longest. Perhaps that is because I am no longer anticipating the new that is to come, but the welcome of home.

Sep 6, 2008 - Here We Are In Missouri

After traveling 266 miles today we stopped at the Stanton, MO KOA campground. We have travelled 1011 miles into our week long trip. Tomorrow we should have another 266 mile day going into Clinton, Indiana. Today we drove in rain most of day but we actually had a bit of sunshine after our arrival here. The campground is named Stanton/Meramec & Crosseyed Cricket Canoe Company. The Meramec is the river that flows nearby and the canoe company puts canoes out on the river. There are about 60 canoes behind our campsite that are sitting idle. They...

ON THE ROAD AGAIN

May 12, 2008 - Jesse James Hideout

Now, for the first full day of the magnificent Marshall Roadtrip through the Midwest. Today we began by going to the Meremac Caverns, the infamous hiding place of Jesse James and home to many record setting cave formations. There was the worlds largest stalagmite and other fun things. It was kind of nice that there was no one there since it isn't exactly prime season. Lisa saddly did not get to dig for gold though, which she had really looked forward to. I did try to leave her in the cave though, but unfortunately the guide kept letting her...
