Jun 5, 2018 - On the Road Again

We left Parkers Crossroads early Monday morning headed for Cummins in Memphis to let them check our generator. Surely it is just a small issue. We arrived at Cummins around 9:45 and went inside to get the process started. Our service tech was Greg, in fact he was head of the service area. We outlined all of our issues, to go with what the NLR office had forwarded to him. He assured us he would get someone on it immediately. I went out and unhooked the CRV so we would have some mobility. Greg moved the motorhome and we assumed the position...

Jan 10, 2018 - Wednesday, Sikeston Missouri

We left Plainfield around 9:00 am after we had the free breakfast bar at the hotel. The weather was kind of gloomy with a mist and light fog, but it was not freezing so everything was good. The roads were all good but we are on the expressways going down. We traveled I-70 to I-57 and south. We will end up for this day in Sikeston Missouri for the night at Pear Tree Inn, which is part of the Drury Hotel chain. Our room is very nice with a big walk in shower, just like home. Interesting place because after 6:00 pm they open a lounge area and...

Eastern fun trip

Oct 27, 2017 - Sikeston, Missouri

As we have traveled around the country, we have often seen big billboards saying “Lambert’s Café, Home of Throwed Rolls”. Of course, the bad grammar was what caught our eye (probably intentionally, but maybe not), but we really didn’t pay much attention to it otherwise. Imagine our surprise when we got to Sikeston and discovered the “Home of Throwed Rolls” was only about a half mile from our RV park. In fact, the park folks gave us a menu when we checked in; of course, we had to try it. The café, founded in 1942, is huge. Soon after we got...

Eastern fun trip

Sep 14, 2017 - September 14, 2017 – Sikeston, Missouri

September 14, 2017 – Sikeston, Missouri Today was a beautiful day. I finished captioning the photos I uploaded yesterday, and then I went to Bloomfield, Missouri to the Stars and Stripes Museum. I didn’t realize that the 1st issues of the Stars and Stripes were published in Bloomfield during the Civil War. On November 9, 1861, during the Civil War, soldiers of the 11th, 18th, and 29th Illinois Regiments set up camp in Bloomfield. Finding the local newspaper's office empty, they decided to print a newspaper about their activities. They...

Sep 13, 2017 - September 13, 2017 – Sikeston, Missouri

September 13, 2017 – Sikeston, Missouri It was raining when I got up this morning. It rained until almost noon, and then it was just overcast and threatening rain the rest of the day. I decided to stay put tonight. There are a couple of things around here that I want to see so I’m going to stay tomorrow night as well. I spent the day uploading pictures and captioning them, doing some reading and watching reruns of The Little Couple. They are going to start their new season next week so they’re rerunning the earlier seasons. I ate at...

Sep 12, 2017 - September 12, 2017 – Sikeston, Missouri

September 12, 2017 – Sikeston, Missouri It rained off and on all day starting at about 7 a.m. The wind came up about 9 and blew hard all day. I’m really glad that I hadn’t planned on going any place today. I spent the day editing pictures, editing posts, getting caught up on my email and watching TV. I went to a late lunch/early supper at Lambert’s again today. You don’t go to Lambert’s during the lunch and supper hours unless you are willing to wait in line for an hour or thereabouts so I went about 4. Today I had the catfish which was...

Sep 11, 2017 - September 11, 2017 – Red Bay, Alabama to Sikeston, Missouri

September 11, 2017 – Red Bay, Alabama to Sikeston, Missouri While I had intended to get an early start, it didn’t exactly happen. First, I didn’t wake up as early as I normally do. Then, as I was unhooking from the utilities, the folks next door stopped to talk. They are from South Carolina, but they are from the interior, northern part of the state so they didn’t feel that they had to worry about their home. They had started to California, but the wildfires in California put a stop to that. They visited Glacier National Park instead. While...

Jul 17, 2017 - One down 4 to go!

Tonight we are in Sikeston at the Hinton RV park. No we did not go to dinner at Lambert's. We have enough leftovers in the refrigerator to last us on this leg of the trip. We have stayed here several times. It's an easy on/off the interstate and if we had wanted to go to dinner at Lambert's, they would have come to pick us up and brought us back. So let's catch up. Yesterday we didn't do much. Larry and Doni left on their way up to Elkhart for some motorhome work. After they left, we made a trip over to Menards to get a couple of small...

Utah and Back

Sep 6, 2016 - Sikeston, MO

Supper at Lambert's Cafe, "home of the throwed rolls". Interesting place. In addition to whatever you've ordered from the menu, waiters roam around with big bowls of fried okra, skillet fried potatoes, and a cart of hot yeast rolls (with apple butter) which are offered in addition to your dinner. The rolls are tossed to you, hence their slogan. They also have a location in Ozark, MO and Foley Alabama. Sharon & I had eaten here and at the Foley location before. Also got permission to stay in their large parking lot overnight. They don't open...

2016 Summer Trip

Oct 27, 2014 - Throwed Rolls

Since Joplin was only a few miles West, we took a Sunday drive over to see if we could see any of the tornado damage of 2011. After a couple of turns getting lost, we roughly followed the route a couple of miles. Tornado set down a few blocks south of old route 66 and roughly followed 20th street from East to West, crossing a major intersection just East of town. There must be tens of thousands of new roofs in that stretch of road, NO trees in that stretch, several roads still being worked on where asphalt/concrete was ripped up, hundreds...
