Aug 9, 2013 - Sedalia - Missouri State Fair

It was an easy hour drive from Boonville to Sedalia, the home of the Missouri State Fair. We drove through town on U.S. 65 to get to our campground and went right by the fair grounds. The traffic was backing up for the fair and it was also raining, so I wondered which was causing the traffic. We pulled into the campground and were told by the owner, Norm, to just set up and see his wife later about the fee, since it was raining. This is an interesting campground, as they only take reservations and only seniors. It seems they are just trying...

Sep 23, 2012 - 52nd Escapade Weel

SUNDAY: Woke up Sunday morning feeling much better. I think I dodged the cold bullet. We went over to the Hospitality Room and greeted lots of old friends. This rally is like a family reunion of people you like not the ones you are related to. The Knights of Columbus are serving meals in Hospitality all week. Today was pulled pork, baked potatoes, green beans and cold slaw. YUM-O!! At 3 pm we had the Opening Ceremonies. It is always a great time. We got a really good giggle as our friend, Chris Yust, who sells GMAC Insurance at the Rally...

Summer 2012 Travels

Sep 21, 2012 - Escapade - Sedalia, MO 2012

JC had to attend this rally alone while I was in California. Of course, it was one of those not to miss. I am so glad he had such a great time. He even volunteered to drive around a golf cart busing people from A to B. Tough duty, but somebody has to do it. Just a few more days and we will be together again.

Sep 13, 2012 - Escapade

Escapade is an encampment for people who live in RVs full or part-time. It is put on by Escapees, which is a club for full-time RVers that we belong to. We went to the three day first timers seminars first. These were on everything from systems management, to fire safety, to driving, to lifestyle, etc. Although Mike had done years of research, we still found it very interesteing and infomative. Then the rest of the time was taken up with the main events. These included more instruction on the vehicles themselves, sales booths and seminars,...

Jun 5, 2012 - Start of the Nova Scotia Trip

I start my Nova Scotia trip at Sedalia, Missouri, at the annual Scott Joplin Festival. There are about 50 entertainers here - mostly piano players - playing ragtime, jazz, classical and movie favorites. We are staying at the Missouri Fairgrounds - a great campground, although very few trees. Cindy Winburn joined me on Wednesday and we spent all day at the preview of the Festival - entertainers playing about 20 minutes all day at the Community College across the street from the campground. Today's my birthday, so we went to the Wheel Inn to...

Barb's Retirement

May 31, 2009 - At the Tire Shop

One of the things we had to do before we got back on the road was to replace the brake that was damaged when we lost the wheel bearing. So we made arrangements to camp in the parking lot of the tire store. We also decided to put new brake shoes on the other 3 brakes and have them repack the other 3 bearings. It was a bit hot but we survived. Slept very well despite the trucks going by on the hiway in front of us. We were supposed be first in line at 8 am so we got up and were ready but they didn't get to us until after 9. Instead of fixing...

Summer 2009 Travels

May 30, 2009 - Sedalia, MO

They fixed the truck in Kansas City. They replaced an entire bank of 4 fuel injectors. So we started out on the road to Sedalia, figuring to arrive on Monday, only 5 days late for the rally. About 50 miles short of Sedalia we heart a bing bang. It was the turbo hose blowing off. Without the turbo we could only do about 35 mph with the pedal to the floor. We just kept going because they stop parking rigs at 2 pm. We arrived at 2 pm and just parked ourselves. Finally the parking guys showed up and told us to park where we were parking...
