Sep 19, 2011 - Odessa, MO
A long travel day, over 400 miles. Went thru Kansas City just before rush hour. Nice timing! This is pretty much a straight-;ine west-east road, for sure. We saw hundreds of wind turbines in Kansas as we approached the rolling hills of the eastern side of the state. Lots of relatively flat terrain today. Fields of milo, a short feed grain, and being evaluated for an ethanol feedstock.

Jul 10, 2011 - Scooted across Kansas to Missouri
Left Oakley, Kansas this morning with our sights on making Missouri for our stop for the evening. Wow, Kansas is one flat state! Lots of grain and corn fields. The terrain much prettier as we got closer to Kansas City. Navigation around that city was a challenge in this motor home. You definitely need a co-pilot. Arrived at Garden RV Park in Odessa, Missouri just before the office closed. They have a great store that carried Amish food (cheeses, butter, meats) and Amish made furniture. We did a little shopping.

Oct 1, 2010 - a pretty blah day!
We only had a 130 mile drive today, because of distance issues further down the road. The scenery was the same - small rolling hills, farmland, green trees without a hint of fall. I've noticed that we have driven over and past many small streams, creeks, rivers, as we've gone through Indiana, Illinois, and Missouri. They remind me of summers spent at my grandmother's house in southern Illinois. You couldn't drive very far in the surrounding countryside without crossing small rivers and streams. So much water in a small area. My cousins...

Aug 22, 2010 - Summer 2010/Home from Alaska - Travel (Odessa, MO)
Yesterday all we saw was prairie. Today we saw some more – continuing east on I80 to the Iowa border, south on I29 to Kansas City, and east on I70. The One Good Taste RV Park is small but the facilities are nice – full hookup including cable TV and WiFi. Interestingly, each night, Gary tries to get the satellite to work and until now, he has been unsuccessful. Tonight, it came back to life! Distance Traveled: 458 Miles

Jul 14, 2010 - Colorado Springs, Co -- Kansas -- Missouri
I’ve been meaning to mention for a long time about part of Julieann’s “education”. In addition to learning all about the areas we have visited, she has also picked up some driving customs. Such as when an 18 wheeler passes us and I click my high beams to let him know that he has cleared me and it is safe to re-enter the lane. Most truckers will say “thank you” by clicking their rear lights a few times. When I let someone in front of me and they don’t say thank you, Julieann calls them “low class” in lieu of what I normally call...

Apr 30, 2009 - Day Three
This was another day of --- interstate driving (use your imagination!). We drove through a small portion of Illinois then into Missouri, with intermittent rain showers. We are camping overnight in Odessa, MO, which is just outside Kansas City. The highlight of today's drive was seeing the arch as we drove through St. Louis. Wish we'd had time to stop - it's an awesome sight! J

Sep 13, 2008 - The Eisenhower Center In Abilene
We are in Missouri! We had a very historical day! We went to the Eisenhower Center in Abilene and then on to Topeka to see Kansas’ State House. We only got 20 miles east of Kansas City and are staying the night. We will be in Farmington, MO to visit Don’s Mother and sister tomorrow afternoon. Then on to Memphis on Tuesday. That gives me 6 days to get ready to go to Virginia. And that will end our long journey. The Eisenhower Center covers 22 acres in Abilene. This Center includes the Boyhood Home of Eisenhower, his museum, his Presidential...

Jun 10, 2008 - What a Beautiful Day!
Tuesday, June 10....from Holiday Lakes Resort---Odessa, Mo We left our house just minutes after 9AM this morning. And what a beautiful day it was! It has been in the 90-degrees F in St. Louis for the last week (with high humidity). But a cool front went through last night. Right now we are just south-east of Kansas City, Missouri-- and the temp is 76 F with a 57% humidity and a pleasant breeze. It took us 4 1/2 hours to drive the 240 miles here with a lunch stop and a few rest stops. We had a picnic at one of the rest areas...the weather...
