Apr 16, 2016 - Change of Plans

The weather in Dodge City was down right dangerous. I had checked into the hotel and an hour later sheets of water were coming down the window of my room. Flood warnings were issued, a tornado was spotted a few towns away, and hail stones were possible. This morning I went to the breakfast room and watched the weather channel and more of the same was in store. Things looked brighter going east SO---- I got out of Dodge! I waited for a lull on the rain and started driving toward Kansas City. Things actually did get better about 25 minutes...

Dec 16, 2014 - "It Was Broke…."

The Des Moines weather man had promised wind, rain and cold overnight and he wasn’t kidding. About 2:00AM I stuck my head out of my cocoon into the cool interior (ok, we had the furnaces on, but set at 58) and could definitely hear rain pelting the exterior and wind rocking us pretty good. Once it got close to daylight I cranked up the furnaces, we shut off the blanket and we ventured out to face the day. Of course we had no water in the still-winterized tank so this would be a no shower day. We warmed up a pyrex pan of water in the...

Off We Go Again

Sep 7, 2012 - Jefferson City to Liberty, MO

Spent most of the morning in the State Records Building, in Jefferson City, doing genealogy research on more of my ancestors. Then we headed west on Route 50 towards Kansas City. WOW, and I thought Kansas was a long, boring state to drive!! We swung by and visited the National Frontier Trails Center, which had exhibits about each of the trails west (Santa Fe, Mormon, California, and Oregon) The museum has included many primary source accounts to give the visitor a "flavor" of their trip. Personally, I have read MANY historical fiction books...

Denise was off to work so we took Anna for her orthodontist appointment. We took a little side trip, it seams the Tom Tom didn't exactly know where we wanted to be. Anna is going swimming with a friend this afternoon. We will take Anna and Denise out to dinner this evening. Today was a great Temp. only in mid 90's. Tomorrow we will be headed for Denver Co.

Sep 5, 2008 - Travel Day.....Topeka, KS to Liberty, MO

Yesterday morning we were awake early enough to have our morning coffee, before getting things ready to move. We went about our normal “moving day” tasks in a leisurely manner, knowing that we had less than 100 miles to travel, and pulled out of Deer Creek Valley RV Park right at 9:00 AM. One thing I had not mentioned about the previous day’s travel was that I had noticed what appeared to be a screwdriver in the road and was unable to avoid running over it. That provided some anxiety for a few minutes but all appeared ok. Then yesterday...

Jun 27, 2008 - Missouri

We got up this morning ready to go see a softball game at the College Softball Hall of Fame but it was thundering and shortly began to rain. We waited about three hours but then we had to go. We drove through the rest of Oklahoma, Kansas and into Missouri where we found a place to camp. Everyone else here appears to live here in campers made in the 70's so maybe they'll be parties later. We lit the Shabbat candles and now have celebrated Shabbat two Fridays on our trip.
