Aug 16, 2011 - Leaving Missouri
we are bound for Coffeyville, Kansas. It's always difficult to leave Barrie. It was so much easier when Kristina and Barrie both lived in the same city. A few hours later, we were at the campground. Hooked up and AC on, we were on our way to visit Kristina and Jon. We were driving by Heritage RV Park and spotted a site that had our name written all over it. It looked like a little bit of Heaven. The site was available so we made the decision quickly to change sites! Off we went, break down, drive a block and rehook up. Not something I...

Aug 15, 2011 - Harley Davidson Tour
We woke to rain, and when I say rain, I mean pounding, you can't see a foot in front of you kind of rain. We waited and waited for the rain to subside. Finally Barrie and I decided we would give it a try. We were going to brave the elements and make the drive north to the Harley Davidson Plant. It took us 90 minutes to go 40 miles! And I really don't think it was because of the rain!. We walked in just in time to catch the tour that was starting. They quickly gave us our ear phones and we were on our way. No pictures are allowed. I...

Aug 14, 2011 - Return to Independence
I think we were more excited for our return trip to Independence, then our first. We again followed the pamplet, mainly because it had a MAP! We stopped by a 1827 Log Cabin Courthouse. For 40 years, this was the last courthouse between Independence and the Pacific Ocean. It also served as a Mormon mercantile store and Harry Truman held court here in the 1930's. Next stop was the Truman Depot. This was the final stop in Truman's 1948 Whistlestop Campaign. After leaving the Presidency in January 1953, he was welcomed home here by 8500...

Aug 13, 2011 - Spending the day with Harry and Bess
Mom and I spent the day in Independence, Missouri. This is the home of Harry S Truman, the 33rd President of the United States. Harry was known as the most uncommon common man. Harry was 6 years old when his family moved to Independence, MO and he first met Bess at Sunday School. We toured the Truman Home which was absolutly beautiful. The tour guide was so knowledgble on Trumans early years and Harry and Bess's courtship, you almost felt like you were there at the time. After leaving there home, we entered the Library and Museum. Watching...

Aug 10, 2011 - World War 1 Museum
Wacky Wednesday is buy one get one free at the World War 1 Museum so we decided to take advantage. Driving into Downtown Kansas City was definitly strange. I am sure I was on the wrong side of town and the feeling never quite changed. The museum was wonderful and we were able to take lots of pictures, but due the glass displays and lighting, I'm afraid none were great. We spent a lot of time checking out the swords and other weaponry. Then there was the Timeline that we read and reread. It was difficult to absorb everything that we saw. We...

Aug 8, 2011 - Bratwurst and Barrie
We got up early this morning to rain! In fact, it had rained most of the night along with severe thunder and lightening. As everyone knows, Benji is not a fan of thunder and therefore spent the night up. Our little dude shook and looked so sad, even with a full benedryl in him. Of course, all the noise subsided and the rain turned to a light sprinkle, so Benji crashed on the bed while we got everything ready to leave. We stopped to dump our garbage on the way out. I slammed the door and noticed the step did not retract but the little motor...

Oct 12, 2010 - Saying goodbye
It is always so difficult for me to say goodbye to my son. He has been such a incredible help to us during this very trying time. He is always there for me. If we hadn't needed to be in Joplin, I would have stayed longer, but that only delays the inevitable. We had a unremarkable travel day to Joplin and found a free site at Downstream Casino. This is a great place with full hookups and for 3 days it doesn't cost a dime. Update on the toilet. It does not appear to be leaking but the capet will take days to dry out. We pulled out our small...

Oct 11, 2010 - Disgusted
I guess I should be greatful that the slide and the roof have been completed, but I am not, since the toilet continues to be a pain you know where. The toilet is in, but.......there is always a but. There is a leak and it doesn't seem to want to be found. Therefore, I'm in a rather foul mood and really disgusted. Our carpet by the dining table is soaked which is in front of the bathroom. Mike came back out today and totally ripped everything out and put new valves almost everywhere he could. He said it was now fixed. I don't think he really...

Oct 8, 2010 - Work continues
After surviving a 12 hour event yesterday, I was hoping to sleep in this morning but the workers were here at 8 am.. Things are not going as smoothly as I had hoped and they will be back again tomorrow. As suspected, the toilet is being the problem. Thank goodness the park bathroon is close by. In the mean time, we have been helping Barrie and Erin move into there new apartment. I don't think we planned this very well...... UPDATE:the slide is fixed Until next time......

Oct 6, 2010 - It could be worse!
Mike from RV Anywhere arrived at 11:00 and got right to work at analyzing our needs and what he could do for us. After approximatly 1 hour he reviewed his findings with us and I think I became sick almost immediatly. The slide is actually a easy fix and not to costly, tho we will need to have the other end of the slide done and then retimed which we can do later. The toilet is another matter, it cannot be repaired and we will need a new one. This will be costly because most of the plumbing needs to be reconfigured. I had asked Mike earlier...

Oct 4, 2010 - Lake Jacomo
I did some internet research trying to find a mobile RV tech to look at our slide and repair our toilet. Might as well get our moneys worth!! Called several and found one that sounds like he knows what he is talking about. He will be out on Wednesday. Until next time......

Oct 3, 2010 - Travel Day
Other than a very stiff back, we had a marvelous travel day. Blue sky's and puffy clouds. We decided to take US-50 west, this is a wonderful 2 lane highway and it being Sunday, it had very little traffic. We arrived at Lake Jacomo at Fleming Park in Lees Summit. On first look, it is a small campground but oh so nice. As the day progressed, we both decided that this park is much nicer than Longview where we stayed in July. It is close to all the shopping centers and only 10 miles from Independence. We are here to see Barrie and Erin but will...
