May 21, 2014 - Dogwood Canyon

Johnny Morris, owner of Bass Pro Shops, is responsible for this beautiful nature preserve. It encompasses 11,000 acres - 2,200 of which are open to the public. I took a 2 hour tram tour because it went places that hikers, bikers, segway or horseback riders could not go - namely where the animals are. Morris bought part of the property in 1990 and it took five years to develop into a place people could visit. Lots of weddings take place at the chapel and other scenic spots. There is an Orvis fly fishing school, a bow and arrow range, and...

Feb 16, 2014 - A Wonderful Thanksgiving

What a wonderful Thanksgiving we had! First time since our marriage we have had both my daughters and their families together with us on Thanksgiving Day! How fortunate we felt. Everyone got into the swing of things - linens on the table, setting it with our best dishes, don't forget the napkins, the salt and pepper of course ... and Terri brought some poppers that gave us lots of laughs and fun. We have evidence due to the hats we all wore! After dinner the 'grands' helped put up the Christmas Tree ... what fun it was watching the whole...

Nov 30, 2013 - 4th Anniversary trip to TX

Getting to South Texas proved to be a nearly all-day adventure ... but finally arriving late in the day, we drove straight to Padre where we stayed in a La Quinta Inn right on the Gulf. They had a sand castle competition on the beach which was fun to see ... the beach was flat, long and lovely. What a treat to come out of the hotel and be on the beach. We really enjoyed this. We went on an evening cruise to see the dolphins that live in the back bay and stay all year round ... and the sunset was beautiful. We had a great visit with Aunt...

Jun 7, 2013 - Spring & Early Summer 2013

We love our life here on the lake ... especially when kids and grandkids are here. These shots show when Claire and Paige came for their week with us. We loved the swimming day we had with Kaitie, Mary and Liam ... and pizza with Uncle Jack was pretty good, too! The kids have lots to do while they're staying with us, as the pictures show, and there was even more this time because we just had the floors re-done and had 5 trees cut down in the back yard to make things more interesting. Silver Dollar City is always a favorite and they each...

Jun 5, 2013 - Natalie Graduates!

Natalie graduated from Washburn Rural High Schooll in Topeka KS May 19, 2013. She and friend Anna will be roommates at Kansas University this fall. We enjoyed the lovely party the Cobb's gave along with Natalie and Renee ... they had great food, lots of friends and family along with time to mingle and chat. Graduation was 7 p.m. Sunday ... We were glad we could help the family celebrate this wonderful occasion....

May 22, 2013 - Cheryl's Nursing Student of the Year Award

What a nice occasion ... and I can't think of any student more deserving of the honor than our Cheryl ... but we're NOT prejudiced! She worked many overnights then went straight to school, only to grab a few hours sleep then report for her overnight shift again. She is determined to make life better for her and family and certainly has shown her willingness to walk the talk - or do what she has to do to get the job done. We are so proud of her ... and as she starts a new semester - with 2 more after this one - she will again be called upon...

May 22, 2013 - Kate and Mary's Band concert

We are so pleased Kate and Mary are enthusiastic about band and music. Kate has been in Sr. High band 2 years and just completed 9th grade. She also participates in Drum Line as well as in the marching band. They have taken several awards this year and their director is very good with them ... he encourages them as well as demanding discipline and they give him their attention. Mary appeared to just sit without keeping time to the music with her foot and I asked her about it later. She said she memorizes everyone's part so she knows when...

May 7, 2013 - It's Easter Time!

Easter is not only the Triumph of the Cross where Jesus died for our sins and was raised again the third day, it signals spring is coming, warmer weather will bring green leaves, grass and flowers ... everyone will want to be outdoors ... families will gather just to be together and enjoy their time. We certainly do celebrate - Christ first, then family! Cashton was enjoyable to watch ... he didn't quite know what was happening, but loved the time with the bigger kids and of course being outdoors. We always love having our family around...

Oct 19, 2009 - Dogwood Canyon Nature Park

Thanks to my favorite hobby of letterboxing, I learned about a big lodge with cabins, water falls, restaurant, and gift stores. It offers tennis, horseback riding, miniature golf, nature trails, and more. In case you want the vacation with class, it's called Big Cedar Lodge and is about 10 miles south of Branson. After seeing that place, I went on to Dogwood Canyon Nature Park and spent a couple of hours bike riding! I was skeptical about riding, thinking it would be full of hills, but it wasn't bad at all. This park has an asphalt trail...
