Jun 12, 2020 - Kansas City Last Day

Fri., June 12th – It was a beautiful sunny day for a June wedding. The groom’s family came out to our campground for breakfast (13 in all) Carla and I did a quick shift from breakfast to lunch…with the help of the guys making a grocery store run. Then in rolled Robin and her family for lunch. (10 of us) The campground setting was just right for avoiding the social distancing in restaurants. We were able to meet and visit with both families before everyone made their way to Overland Park for the wedding.

Westward Bound Again

Jun 11, 2020 - Kansas City - WWI Museum

Tues., June 9th – We were grateful to have just wind without the rains in our travels to Columbia, MO for our overnight stop at Cedar Creek Campground. Steve was able to wet his line in their stocked bass pond before calling it a day. Wed., June 10th – The wedding event of Bruce’s grandson was our next destination. Our campground on Longview Lake was our next stop for a 3 night stay in the outskirts of the Kansas City Metro area. Thur., June 11th – Bruce braved the “big city” traffic driving us to downtown Kansas City where we spent the...

Westward Bound Again

Aug 2, 2019 - Kansas City, MO (Oak Grove) July 26 - Aug 1, 2019

We love the Mississippi River but we had to leave that behind in order to get back to Santa Fe. Our next stop is KC, Missouri but unfortunately there was not a location right along the Missouri, our 2nd favorite river, so we are in Oak Grove, MO that is about 25 miles east of KC. Our drive to KC was mostly interstate, which is unusual for this trip. The Missouri Highway Dept had a sense of humor. Most of the time we see signs that say things like “Buckle it or Ticket”. But on this drive we saw different ones: “It is the speed limit, not the...

Apr 20, 2019 - Off on Another Adventure

Our traveling group leaves home next Tuesday for another adventure. We travel to London Heathrow airport (arriving Wednesday) where we will spend the night before leaving on Thursday for the island of Malta. Malta is located off the toe of the boot of Italy and was the origin of the Templar Knights. There is a lot of history for such a small place. If you do not want to receive updates on this trip, please email me (bmump0913@aol.com) or respond to the notice and I will take your name off the mailing list.

Oct 9, 2018 - Kansas City, MO

Lots of rain overnight and this morning. Susan left at 6:30 am for St. Petersburg, FL. Hung out with Gerry. While looking at weather reports we realized that it was snowing in CO and had better figure out how route ourselves to avoid snow. We also decided not to minimize our drives over 400 miles a day. Now we are stopping in Hays, KS again and then on to Denver for one night and not two as we had planned. Is supposed to snow on Saturday. Will drive through WY on Hwy 80 to Evanston, WY and then to Wendover, NV, Winnemucca and then home....

Oct 8, 2018 - Terre Haute, IN to Kansas City, MO

Is Columbus Day and the first anniversary of the Napa/Sonoma fires. Hard to believe it was a year ago that we were in NZ wondering when/how to return home. Not quite as muggy but still hot enough. On the road by 9:00 and passing one field/silo after another. Listened to our book. Off the northern circular route around St. Louis (Rte 370) we found a new Costco. We had lunch but the soda machines did not work so they handed out cans, the condiment machines were not filled. Was a bit odd. Did the job as were quickly on the road again. It was...

Aug 23, 2018 - Kansas City, MO

August 23, 2018 Is raining and probably will continue throughout the day. I caught up on some BOD work and looked for books to download. Bob opted for two Baldacci books and as he is driving, he gets 2 votes. Gerry, Bob and I went to the Kemper Contemporary Art Museum in the neighborhood where we also had lunch. Although small the museum presents 8-12 exhibits a year. I did not know the artists. One exhibit was particularly timely, Worlds Otherwise Hidden, which featured three international artists who interpreted the challenging...

August 22, 2018 Staying at the Carlsons is like staying at an art museum. Each time we visit there are new pieces and this time there are many more! They have built a new pool room with kitchen, bath and plenty of room for dancing and more art! Bob and I took Uber to the City Market which is one end of the street car line (the other end is Union Station). The market was not busy as the principal day is Saturday. We did check out the big Chinese Market which had most anything Asian that you would want. We hopped on the street car and got off...

Aug 21, 2018 - Hays, KS to Kansas City, MO

August 21, 2018 Dinner was disappointing in that most of the beers were “out” and the food was not particularly good. There was a definite German slant to the menu and large portions. I had the footlong bratwurst with sauerkraut, Bob had the hamburger and both came with homemade chips. The bratwurst was mealy and I ate little of it. The Fletcher IPA was good though There is little going on in town which is very clean. Most buildings are brick as are the streets. The library was large! I read that the median house price is $42,000 and...

Mar 19, 2018 - The Eagles soared!

Wow! One of the best concerts we have ever attended!! They opened with “Seven Bridges Road” which gave us goose bumps and only got better. It was sad that Glenn wasn’t on stage but his son, Deacon did a great job. They played for almost three hours and did two encores! Nobody wanted to leave. Vince Gill was as also awesome. He sang four or five of their songs and one of his. He said it is an honor to be on the stage with the Eagles, but he was “scared as hell. Final thought. If you have a chance to see them on this tour, we highly recommend...

Jan 5, 2018 - Kissing Kansas City cold good bye

We are ready to move on. We got up, packed up and left for another long trip. Along the way we saw the smoke in the picture and we know now that they are in need of rain here and this was a field that caught on fire. We are staying here 2 nights to take a breather before our last leg of this trip tomorrow. We are at the KOA next to the casino on the Choctaw reservation. It was 60 degrees today and sunny but they are finally supposed to get rain tomorrow.
