Sep 26, 2016 - On the Road to Missouri. Again!

I’ve been off for a while, just being lazy! We arrived in Jefferson City on September 11 after spending eleven days on the road. We left Colorado after spending one night at Uncle Wally’s again, in Evergreen. Then in the morning we dropped down out of the mountains and hit a huge wet wall of humidity! Ick and more ick! It has been a long, long time since we have experienced the lovely summer weather of the mid-west. Usually by the time we arrive in Jefferson City it is in October and has cooled off but this year we were a little early. Our...

May 30, 2016 - Along the Mississippi and Missouri Rivers

It is the end of the Memorial Day weekend and we have been tucked away in a city park in Jefferson City which is Missouri’s state capitol. We try to stay off the roads during the Memorial weekend. This leg of our trip has found us visiting a couple of the old cities along both the Mississippi and Missouri Rivers. In Hampton, Illinois we parked at a COE right on the Mississippi River. We watched barges go by but couldn’t spend too much time sitting outdoors. The gnats were out and the mayflies, an aquatic flying insect, were just starting...

Oct 7, 2015 - Getting Ready to Leave!

Well, we have been here in Jefferson City since August 16. In that time Karen has had her cataract surgery with her final appointment on Oct 7th, and a regular checkup on October 5th, then she will be finished with doctors for the year, hopefully. Note: She got a clean bill of health and a new prescription for her glasses! Yay! Jerry Garcia had his appointment with the vet and hopefully he is finished with vet visits for the year. Rick had his appointment with the podiatrist a couple of weeks ago and found out he has plantar fasciitis. He...

Sep 12, 2015 - More Waiting!

Quick up date to let you know that the surgery was a great success! Vision in the left eye is so good that I had to have the left lens removed from my glasses and that technically I no longer need glasses to drive! Of course I am still waiting for the release from the doctor. That is scheduled for October 7th. Then I will have a prescription for new lenses. When I stopped by Walmart to have the lens removed I asked what the lead time is for a new set of glasses. That is when I found out that Medicare will pay for the new lens (and possibly...

Sep 4, 2015 - Waiting!

Waiting! It is not something that I do very well. Rick is always saying that I do not have any patience! I want to move on down the road after just a couple of weeks to see what is around the next bend. The term hitch itch had me in mind when it was coined. So what am I doing right now? That’s right! Waiting! And I am not dealing very well with it. Right now I am waiting to go out to dinner tonight, waiting for my hair and Pedi appointment tomorrow and for my surgery appointment on the 8th. I don’t think I’m alone in this. Who doesn’t look...

Aug 26, 2015 - Back In Jefferson City

Just wanted to give everyone an update. We arrived in Jefferson City, Missouri on Sunday, August 16 and settled into our usual spot; site #1, where we started out on our full time adventure in 2010! That feels very appropriate, though with the heat and humidity that we encountered when we arrived those shady spots further down the hill looked very inviting! Had my eye appointment on Monday and after the exam and the measuring for a new lens I am now good to go for the surgery on September 8th. That means that the earliest that we can leave...

Apr 17, 2015 - Back At Binder Park

We arrived in Jefferson City. Mo on Saturday April 11th as planned. We had an easy 3 day drive north from the lake in Texas. As I mentioned previously we were able to see spring unfolding each mile that we drove. We went from full leaf out in southern Texas to just starting the leaf out in Missouri. Here in Jefferson City the oak trees, along with other hard woods, have barely broken bud. The soft woods are well on their way to full leaf. We saw glorious displays of redbud along the way; especially in the Springfield, MO area. For miles...

Mar 14, 2015 - “The Bloodiest 47 Acres.”

Jefferson City, MO We made it all the way to Jeff City, Missouri today. Once here we took a look at the state capitol building. The Capitol is notable for its architectural features: 48’ columns on the south side and 40’ on the north side. It has a 30’ wide grand stairway and its bronze front doors, each 13’ by 18’ were, at the time, the largest cast since the Roman era. It is quite a place. Once dubbed the “bloodiest 47 acres in America” by Time magazine due to the number of murders and assaults there, Missouri State Penitentiary was next...

Oct 25, 2014 - Movin' On Down The Road

After 34 days we have arrived at the end of our stay in Missouri and we are feeling antsy! We will be leaving tomorrow, Sunday, October 26. We have accomplished all of our goals for this trip. Rick’s visit at the VA clinic was a positive as was my visits to the ophthalmologist and the family practice doctor. Jerry had his visit with his vet, Dr. Groner. And Karen had her appointment with her stylist, Amanda at Elements Salon for a haircut and perm and also a pedicure by Amanda. The BEST anywhere! Karen picked up her new glasses and we both...

May 24, 2014 - Missouri State Capitol

Windshield wipers were going all the way from Reeds Spring to Jeff City. Arrived at the capitol in time for the 1pm tour( along with 20 kids and their parents). Stan, our guide, was terrific - he handled the kids with great skill. You could tell he has had groups like this before. The House Lounge on the third floor, contains the most beautiful murals by native son, Thomas Hart Benton. Although Benton had moved away from Missouri he returned for a year and a half and completed the project in 1936. The paintings tell the story of Missouri...

Oct 27, 2013 - Back Home in Jefferson City

Long time no writing, right? Told you it would be awhile, and I have to say I have enjoyed the break. It seems like lots of bloggers are taking breaks. Every time I log on to read some of the blogs I follow regularly I find that they haven‘t written! For a moment I get a little annoyed, then I remember that I haven’t written in awhile either! So I thought maybe if I write, some of the others will also. Think that might work? We’ll see. Anyway if I am typing I’m not listening to CNN and hearing the news about what Congress is doing, or...

Oct 13, 2013 - Back to Missouri for a month - May 2012

After Texas we traveled back to Missouri. We spent the month catching up on doctors appointments, helping Christine get ready for her big move to Canada and visiting the kids as much as possible knowing we wouldn't see them for awhile....2 years most likely.
