Aug 31, 2018 - Hollister MO. Turkey Creek RV Resort - Escapee Park

Fri Aug 31 We arrive at Turkey Creek Camp ground in Hollister Mo, just a mile or so from the strip in downtown Branson. Check in for our two week stay. As I’m backing the MH into our campsite, I catch the awning on a damn street light lamp post and damage the motor/roller on the awning so that it won’t extend. So now I have another problem to deal with. I did have some success with the satellite dish, I put the dish in search mode and it found all my satellite but didn’t connect with the signal to the modem. Called Dish network and after...

May 10, 2014 - Hollister, MO

Sat, 10 May: An interesting day's drive... We slept well thanks to Wal*Mart. We had a few trucks parked near us but they didn't bother us at all. We were up early and got Carpe ready to roll. Since the car never got disconnected we breezed thru our pre-departure check lists and rolled our wheels at 0808. Back on US 60 east for a dozen or so miles to US 53 which we took south along the lakes region of northeast Oklahoma. During yesterday's drive the landscape has become much greener and the terrain a bit hillier. We are noticing a decided...

Jun 2, 2013 - Missouri Ozarks and The College of the Ozarks

We love the Ozarks and enjoyed some more time in Missouri. We discovered The College of the Ozarks, which is a four-year tuition-free program for financially and academically qualified students. We had a great Sunday brunch at their restaurant and returned during the week for lunch. We enjoyed visiting some of the campus buildings.

Nov 1, 2012 - English Village

We visited the cool town of Hollister today. We wanted to check out the Turkey Creek RV Park owned by the Escapees. It is really nice, located right on the water. (see photos) We also visited the historic English Village in Hollister. One of the area's most recognized landmarks is the Ye Olde English Inn on historic Downing Street. First opened in 1909, the Inn had a full renovation in 2010. We didn't go inside today, we will be going back later for pictures of the inside. The town was named Hollister by Reuben Kirkham who opened a general...

Oct 27, 2012 - College of the Ozarks

Today we visited the College of the Ozarks in Point Lookout, Missouri. One of our readers told us not to miss it, we are glad we made the trip. We will be making another trip later just to have lunch at the Keeter Center. When you visit The Keeter Center at College of the Ozarks, you are also visiting one of the most unusual colleges in America. College of the Ozarks, founded in 1906, charges its students no tuition. Every full-time student works at a campus job to help defray his or her expenses. Working for an education is a defining...

Oct 1, 2010 - Enjoying Branson

For our first few months in Hollister, we found plenty of things to do. If you have never been to the Branson area, we would sincerely recommend you add Branson to your bucket list. You'll have to either stay several months, or plan multiple trips to see it all. We've posted a few picture of some of the things we did between July 1 and September 30, 2011. Although there are a few big name celebrities here, they are not current big names, but legends all the same. We had the opportunity to see a show put on by Jim Stafford (Spiders and...

Jul 1, 2010 - Summer in the Ozarks

On July 1, we arrived at Turkey Creek RV Park in Hollister, Missouri. The RV park is about 1 1/2 miles south of Branson. We were initially scheduled to work here until September 25. More about that later. There are lots of things to see and do here in Branson. Dozens of shows of all different types, parks, museums, shopping, etc. In addition to going out to shows, occasionally performers come out to the park. Gordy Wensel and Debbie Kaye are a husband-wife singing team that come out regularly to perform for the guests of the park. Gordy...

May 5, 2009 - Missouri Ozarks

On May 5, we arrived at Turkey Creek RV Village in Hollister, Missouri, just south of Branson. When we checked into the RV park, they made it a point to tell us where the storm shelter is and that when we hear the siren, we have five minutes to get to the storm shelter. Little did we know that we would have an opportunity to check out the storm shelter while we were there. We awoke one morning to stormy weather. It was rainy and windy and then it got very dark and very still. Next thing we heard was the tornado siren. We ended up staying...

May 4, 2009 - Hollister, Missouri

5/4 – 5/16 It took us seven days to travel 1434 miles from Casa Grande to Hollister, Missouri along US60. As usual, we found Wal-Mart parking lots to stay for the nights along the way. The towns we stopped in were Claypool, Arizona; Socorro, New Mexico; Clovis, New Mexico; Canyon, Texas; Enid, Oklahoma; and Bartlesville, Oklahoma. The first day we stopped at D&R Family RV in Phoenix where we had new batteries installed in our house. That was a total of eight batteries, six for the house and two that start the house’s engine. We left Phoenix...

Sep 29, 2008 - Turkey Creek SKP Park

We were packed up about 10 and headed up the hill out of the campground. We had the old truck in growler but made it up. Things got pretty shook up as the ruts in the roads were pretty deep. A nice drive down to Hollister. Stopped in Buffalo for something to eat - found a place called The Breakfast Nook. Nothing great to write home about - I could have made better in the rig. Looked at the clock when we were all set up at Turkey Creek and it was 4 on the dot. Pretty long day but we are set for the next 4 days. Will move on Friday. Had a...
