Jul 22, 2009 - Clinton Presidential Library

We have had another travel adventure to talk about! Although I picked a day with cooler temperatures, I did not realize we would be in downpours of rain. We went to Little Rock, Arkansas to tour Clinton’s Presidential Library (the subject of this journal,) the Capitol Building (the subject of the next journal) and the Little Rock Central High school Historic Site (the subject of the third journal.) I thought we would encounter a little rain and then it would pass on by. Instead we ended up in rain so heavy you could hardly see where you...

Jul 22, 2009 - Arkansas State Capitol

The Arkansas Capitol building looks very similar to the U.S. Capitol. It is quite beautiful. We first watched a film about the building of the Capitol. It has a very controversial history. It took 16 years to finish. Construction was begun in 1899 with a budget of one million dollars. It ran over that cost before the first floor was completed. The next governor fought funding it. When nine black students wanted to attend the all white Little Rock Central High School on September 2, 1957, it became a test of this Supreme Court Ruling. Arkansas Governor Orval Faubus ordered the Arkansas National Guard to the...

Jul 18, 2009 - Daniel Boone Home and Village - Defiance, MO

July 18, 2009 Saturday Dear Family and Friends, We are in Hawn State Park near Farmington, Missouri. We have been here all week visiting Don’s Mother. The Park is a beautiful place. Our site has only electric. There are 59 camp sites in the park… eight ‘first-come, first-served’ sites with electricity. It has filled up for the weekend. A lot of families with children are here and it is wonderful for them to play on the paved roads with their scooters and bicycles. Most of the people are camping in pop ups and tents. Don’s Mother is doing...

Sep 11, 2007 - Defiance, MO

Glen, Val & I went to the Daniel Boone homestead and Boonesfield Village in Defiance, MO this morning. We took the guided tour, which started with a 15 minute introductory story of his life, accomplishments and how he came to MO from KY. We went to the house (3 story stone) and viewed the bed rooms, sitting and dining rooms and the kitchen on the lowest floor. We saw the "spring house" where milk and fresh food were stored in containers set on the floor in the cool water from the nearby spring. We next toured a number of building brought in...
