Oct 24, 2012 - Cape Girardeau
Good news is the pain in my back is now at a low growl; I feel much better. Time to keep moving south. We hit the road bound for Cape Girardeau; that's pronounced 'jir-ar-do', the 'gir' doesn't sound like it does in the word 'girl'; don't you feel sorry for people who learn English, it must be so confusing with words that sound the same but mean totally different things, and letter combinations that sound one way in one word and different in a different word!!. It was an uneventful ride and we arrived at Cape Camping RV park. We could only...

Aug 8, 2012 - Missouri Trip (August 3-5, 2012)
Day 1: Me, Brandon and Alex left around 6 in the morning. We passed through Memphis and nearly died. We got to Cape Girardeau around maybe 4 in the afternoon. We finally had White Castle, and it was terrible. We also almost broke a treadmill in the hotel's workout room. That night, I got kicked out of Walmart. We also almost destroyed this Outback worker's car. Twice. Day 2: We drove through Illinois up to the Gateway Arch. We had to wait a couple of hours, and ended up walking to a Taco Bell about 10 minutes away. We found a Toynbee tile,...

Jul 13, 2012 - Cape Girardeau, Missouri
Upon arrival in Cape Girardeau of course we unhooked, ate something and off to find Walmart to replenish our supplies. Back to the RV park to relax and rest up from that long trip from Caruthersville (funny). As we were doing our daily walk around the RV park we notice a motorhome we recognized - people we was parked next to in Caruthersville, Frank and Virginia. We knocked on the door and yupper we was right. We visited with them a little. They had arrived a day ahead of us and told us things we needed to see in the area, so that is what...

Jul 12, 2012 - Travel day - Cape Girardeau, Missouri
Very nice day for travel and we only had 88 miles to go. We had met some people in the RV park at Lady Luck who had just come from the park we were going to so we knew things would be ok. Not much to report since it was a short trip. Talk with you the next posting. God bless Ken and Fran

Jul 12, 2012 - I tried last night!
I tried last night to write the journal, I really did. "My Trip Journal" must have been working on their site as I could not get it to display. Yesterday was more errands. We checked at WalMart Pharmacy about getting prescriptions refilled. The phone line is still out. Don't you know what a mess that is. Our son had suggested that we check at Sam's. Yes! They do accept our Humana Prescription insurance. Three of the refills were transfers from CVS-Caremark which takes some phone calls. Those three will need to be picked up today. The best...

Jul 10, 2012 - Errands! We had Errands!
Shall I list all the stops we made today? I was telling our son about all the stops. He said "if you spent money at each one, you don't have any left!" Thankfully, spending money didn't happen at each place. Included in today's stops... *****Verizon--remind ourselves how to add Canada to our monthly plan *****Best Buy--asked how to do something on the computer...Geek Squad provided the answer. No charge. *****Schnucks--a few groceries *****Menards--buy supplies for Glen to build a shelf. Plywood in scrap box. Cost $2 *****WalMart--refill...

Jul 9, 2012 - In my Mother's voice: "It sure is going to be quiet around here!"
The title refers to what my mother says every time we leave her. It is also what I said to Brady and Tanner when they left this morning! Glen and the boys left at 8 a.m., and met Trisha about 11:45. They all had lunch then went their separate ways. While Glen was gone I went to the book store, turned in the books I had already read for store credit, found more and used the store credit. This is a very nice used book store. It does not smell musty; it is very organized, you get half of purchase price back in store credit; the books are all...

Jul 8, 2012 - Tonight----
Tonight----the cooler temps finally arrived. About six tonight thunder rumbled and rumbled; the temps have dropped. It is 75 degrees at ll p.m. A few drops of rain has fallen. Tonight----is also the last night for Brady and Tanner. It has been great having them here. They have gotten along very well, been helpful, made us laugh until tears fell; learned two new card games. They are ready to see their friends, and their momma. Of course it won't be long until we see them again. Next Saturday Trisha and the boys will be coming to Alley...

Jul 7, 2012 - Friends
At noon today, with the temperature at 104 degrees, Tanner, age 12, wanted to see if an egg would fry on the road surface. The variant was the 11 mph hot wind. It dried out the egg before it could "fry". BTW: Today's high was 106 degrees on our weather center. Glen saw one bank's thermometer reading of 109 degrees. Tonight at 9:20 it has dropped to 92 degrees. However, there is a chance of rain tomorrow--up to one inch. We need that kind of rain for several days in a row! You heard about the church in the midwest that held a special prayer...

Jul 6, 2012 - Mimi Gayla still on duty!
Ashlynn was still running temperature this moring which means she stayed at home from school. Rather than Mom or Dad staying home from work, Mimi spent the day with her again. The fever wasn't as high as yesterday but stayed consistently around the 101-degree mark. We did a lot of coloring; I had lots of fun and managed to "stay in the lines!". We also played two games of "Sorry". Glen ran some errands while Brady and Tanner entertained themselves at the motorhome. Glen took our two laptop computers in to Best Buy to check for the malware...

Jul 5, 2012 - Third Time is the Charm!
Glen had made an appointment this morning-for the third time-to have the dash a/c on the motorhome looked at to find the reason it would not blow cold air. This recommendation came via the NAPA Auto Parts store and was a good recommendation. The shop found two seals that were collapsed or smashed or something. The seals were replaced and freon was added to the unit. Glen said there was cold air coming from the dash vents as they returned to the park. I was picked up this morning before 7:30 by Darin to go spend the day with Ashlynn. She...

Jul 4, 2012 - Old Glory
It's Hotter than a Firecracker on Fourth of July! Oh, wait, it is Fourth of July! And.... it is 106 degrees at 5:30 p.m. Just to get out of the motorhome we drove to and through the Trail of Tears State Park, eleven miles north of Cape Girardeau. It was much too hot to get out of the truck, but we did walk to the high overlook of the Mississippi River. There was talk of some of us going to the Demolition Derby here in Cape but, nope, it is too hot. Glen says you couldn't watch the Derby for trying to keep from passing out in the heat!...
