Apr 11, 2013 - Overnight in Cameron, Missouri

Another driving day. We drove all day again today and rested for the evening at the Walmart in Cameron, Missouri. From this point until May 22nd we will be visiting family in Iowa so for those of you who are only interested in trip pictures, you can skip ahead to the 22nd of May when we will be in Wyoming. We've taken a job working for the Grand Teton Association for the summer. For those that know the family or our Iowa friends, feel free to browse through family pictures!

Oct 18, 2012 - Home

Well I made it home OK. It was nice to get back. Took forever it seemed to get thru Kansas. Ran into road construction again. Not really construction but road striping. They shut down long sections of the hwy and we had to wait for a lead vehicle to get you thru. Crazy I say. There was three separate sections of what I would say five miles or so. So five miles of traffic was backed up waiting for the other direction to clear. I had to use the bathroom of course and on the second section I was the first in line. Talked the flag guy into...

Oct 16, 2012 - Homeward Bound

I'm homeward bound!!! Went thru a kazillion small towns today on my trek back north. I really didn't pick a route just want to explore a different area and roads than I took down to New Mexico. Got stuck in several construction areas so the going was slow but I didn't tire. I had a good nights sleep last night and I hope I do again tonight. Should be back home Thursday latest. I have about 14 hours to go so if I push it and things go smooth maybe I'll make it home late tomorrow? I'm not sure of my route just yet so who knows. I tried to up...

Oct 15, 2012 - Monday's Travels

Took a good hard look at where and what I still wanted to see last night and how long it was going to take me to get back home etc. Just not enough time or energy LOL I've put over 2000 miles on my little car and both I and it need a rest I think. I kind of wanted to go further west now but it's a long way over and a long way back. Woke up this AM with a sunburn and the start of a cold. So I pointed my car in a NE direction and started driving I'm still in NM and I calculated that I still have about 20 hrs of driving ahead of me and I only...

Oct 14, 2012 - Full Day

I knew I'd regret starting this cause now I feel obligated to continue. Today was a full day and I'm almost too tired to do this. that and my laptop is acting up again and I don't have any canned air with me. Up early and was almost the first person in the door at or should I say Cave at Carlsbad Cavern. Awesome. It's quite a hike and not for those who aren't used to walking a lot. Took nearly two hours to walk thru with just a few stops. Steep inclines and I saw a few people who looked sorry that they started it. You can take an elevator...

Oct 13, 2012 - The Road Less Traveled

Internet still a little too slow to upload pics so once again I'll wait. I was feeling a little off this morning so I stayed at the motel in Clovis longer this morning than I planned on. Highway 70 between Portales and Rozwell NM is some of the most desolute road I've ever been on. Nothing for miles except fields with Yucca plants and tumbleweeds. I sure wouldn't want to breakdown on that stretch. About the only thing I saw along the way was a Prison and signs every so often cautioning drivers not to pick up hitch hikers because of the...

Oct 12, 2012 - Day Tres

I was going to add photos today but it was taking too long. I will try tomorrow. Saw a lot of scenery today. some good and some not so good. Lovely vista from a rest area outside Amarillo Texas but as I was taking the pictures I could hear two rattlesnakes in front of me maybe 50 yards or so. Done taking pictures and I headed back to the car. Went to a Route 66 Museum that was really cool. Have pics of that too. Then I headed to New Mexico. I'm staying in Clovis cause I decided that four hours of driving a day is enough. Car is doing...

Oct 11, 2012 - Day Dos

Another day just pretty much driving. I got turned around going thru OK City because of construction but finally managed to get on track. I did want to go see the OK Memorial at the Alfred P Muro (SP?) building but after getting off and on the Turnpike twice I gave up. LOL Got to Clinton OK too late to see the Route 66 Museum but I plan on stopping tomorrow AM Have to see about that one cause I'm not going to hang around here just for that. I'll have to go on line and see what their hours are. Got to my motel and found out that a shroud...

Oct 10, 2012 - Road Weary

Day one of my road trip and I'm already road weary. I'd never make a good long haul trucker that's for sure. Made to a place just outside of Kansas City a town called Cameron. found a motel and it's nice and clean and the guy at the desk gave me the AAA discount even tho I don't have AAA. Only stops I made were to get gas. No pictures yet, maybe tomorrow. I need to slow it down but I was just anxious to get out of Iowa. Was sunny the whole way and it's 63 here. They have a nice walking garden next to the hotel but it's getting dark so I...

Nov 15, 2011 - Onward to Missouri

Last night wasn't as bad as I expected but the MH was aglow with light from the outside lamp. The trucks next to me were quiet; the freeway provided a loud background but I slept anyway. It got down to 44 last night and I added a quilt to stay warm. The cats slept with me, probably to stay warm. The furnace in the MH heated the unit up to 63 in 15 minutes so that's not bad. I'm in a motel tonight in Cameron, MO, just north of Kansas City, MO. I'd rather stay in the MH but I needed a shower [expensive shower!] and also wanted to charge up my...

Dec 25, 2010 - Thanks For Nothin Gophers

Christmas Day dawned crisp and cold, but at least no snow was falling. We got the cats loaded up (can’t go all that way without a little feline companionship) and were rolling by 7:00. As mentioned above, the good news was that the snow had all fallen to the south and west of Point. The bad news is that you can’t hardly get to Texas without driving south and west – oh joy, oh rapture. Even on dry pavement, I detest I-90 between Madison and Beloit. This old road surface makes some gravel roads look good, so heading straight south was out of...
