Today we drove east on Missouri 14 to Ava, MO and stopped at McDonald's for lunch. We turned on Missouri 5 to Missouri 76 (which we missed and had to turn around) to multiple Country Farm Roads (read that gravel roads) to stop in the middle of the road as this particular spot was the Battle of Clark's Mill in 186XXXXXX. OK then! We then drove to Vera Cruz Access (into Bryant Creek) in Douglas County 3 miles north of Highway 14 (not the same Missouri 14 near the Ozark-Branson RV Park) on Route AB (I was glad to see pavement to this area from...

Sep 5, 2010 - Side Trips from Ranch to Ava Mo and Surrounding Areas

Hi everyone. Well, Lee and I have been moving around some and exploring the area. It's funny, we have been coming here for about 22 years, and its's amazing how many things we have never seen. We went to some of the Grist Mills in the area. They were used for making grain or whatever. Most are not in use anymore, but some still produce grain and if you get there at a certain time, they do demonstrations. They use the water from the streams to power the wheels on the mills. They are such beautiful places that I am sure the pictures do not do...
