Jun 15, 2012 - Change in Plans

We were going to Rogers, Arkansas today to watch Taner in a Kook Sol Won competition in the morning, but.... Tanner injured his foot last night at Kook Sol Won practice. He won't be able to compete Saturday. Trisha is having his foot x-rayed this afternoon to see if it more than a sprain. We are now heading to my mom's for 4-5 days. There won't be cell service or WIFI at her house. Strangely we can receive text messages. Have a great week end.

Jun 13, 2012 - Family Details

I can't decide whether to not post at all when we have had a very quiet day..or bore you with the details of going to Walmart, filling prescriptions, and buying groceries. It has been nice enough to sit outdoors in the shade with Gary and Evelyn and catch up on the details of each of our lives. Gary prepared "reuben sandwiches" for supper tonight. I warned you: a very quiet day. Take care.

Nov 24, 2011 - Thanksgiving

Here's wishing you a Happy Thanksgiving. More than the turkey got stuffed here...we did too! There was so-o-o much food. Some restaurants didn't have as many desserts as did the family dessert bar! There was much visiting, holding babies, picture taking, watching the youngsters, and of course, eating. Take care. Time for resting and recouperating.

Nov 23, 2011 - Thanksgiving Eve

Wow! has there been cooking going on at your house? The kitchen has been busy here. Tammy used two recipes from the November issue of Southern Living magazine and made "Bananas Foster Cake" and "Pumpkin Cheesecake"; Evelyn prepped the sweet potato casserole and made two vegetable dips, and the cranberry salad; the corn is defrosting; Paul and Pam brought dinner rolls and cinnamon rolls and two pumpkin pies. I have the broccoli/cauliflower salad prepped, and the strawberry pretzel salad made. Trisha brought a pumpkin roll and a new recipe...

Nov 22, 2011 - Two more days until Thanksgiving

It has been a day of drizzle and clouds in west Missouri. It only rained .3" but was enough to make the roads very muddy. So much for Glen washing the truck yesterday!! It was 90 minutes to Sedalia to pick up niece Rachel at State Fair Community College. We left early enough to plan a stop in Clinton MO for a run-through Walmart and lunch at a local Mexican restaurant. We arrived back at Evelyn/Gary's in time for a delicious meal of smoked pork sandwiches. The evening is ending watching Mizzou Tigers playing basketball...and...

Nov 21, 2011 - Holiday Week

Let the fun begin! Evelyn's son and wife and grandson are driving in from Pennsylvania today. They will be the first of a housefull of family. I have made my Walmart grocery list, the last one, I hope. We will shop tomorrow as we drive to Sedalia to pick up a niece that is attending State Fair Community College. Speaking of Walmart....isn't it funny/odd how accustomed to "big", "super" stores we (I) have become. Sorry for that awkward sentence. The Walmart in Butler doesn't have groceries. On the bright side, a new store is being built. It...

Nov 19, 2011 - Bates County Cattlemen Association

This morning was filled with preparations for the Bates County Cattlemen's Association Annual Meeting tonight. Glen, Evelyn and myself helped set up and decorate 30 round tables. Gary spent the morning in the kitchen, busy with preparations for the prime rib dinner tonight. Yes, prime rib. It was the best prime rib we have ever had, accompanied by baked potato, green beans, cole slaw, hot rolls, and homemade cake for dessert. Over 200 dinners were served tonight. A quartet entertained during the registration and meal. There were a guitar,...

Nov 18, 2011 - Pictures

Here's a few photos from yesterday's visit to the World War One Museum. There were a small "tent city" across the corner from the Federal Reserve Building in Kansas City. Today Glen and Gary finished an electrical project that had been started a few days ago. Gary installed new wires to two different barns. Glen was the go-fer, the assistant! Have a great week end. Later in the day! We just watched the movie "Secretariat" with Evelyn and Gary. We are behind the times, I know, but if you haven't seen it, we recommend it highly. Very...

Nov 17, 2011 - The City

Sister (in law) Evelyn had a one o'clock appointment at the dental college in The City...Kansas City...this afternoon. We left this morning in time to be at the "National World War One Museum" in Kansas City when it opened at ten. Oh-my-goodness. "The War to End All Wars" is the forgotten war as far as we were concerned. We certainly did not have much knowledge at all about WW One. Things we learned today: ******over nine million soldiers killed (from all nations) ******millions of civilians killed ******the war began in 1914 and the US...

Nov 15, 2011 - Sunshine and Spades!

It's the middle of November and we were able to sit outdoors in the loungers, with a book. No wind, bright sunshine, a small lake in front of us, red-tailed hawks floating in the sky: it was wonderful. Now, tomorrow is supposed to be a different kind of day...low of 26 degrees, cloudy, and a high of 50 degrees. Evelyn went to yoga this morning; the rest of us met her for breakfast after her class. I then went with her to a (different) quilt shop. This business is located on the square, in an old building. It looks like a mercantile store,...

Nov 14, 2011 - Shell Osage State Wildlife Refuge

Gary and Evelyn both were busy today. Evelyn did substitute teaching; and Gary prepared for the meal served at tonight's BINGO at the Optimist Building. Glen and I drove to Schell Osage State Wildlife Refuge. We saw several different kinds of waterfowl, white pelicans, immature eagle, and one swan which was too far for specific ID. It was great to be out, enjoying the outdoors. The day ended with a fantastic sunset. See photos!

Nov 13, 2011 - Quiet Sunday

We attended church with Evelyn and Gary this morning. Evelyn invited Glen to sing in the choir, which he did! We took advantage of the local Relay for Life teams serving a lasagna lunch at the local Optimist Building. Then it was home for football and the Kansas City Star, guaranteed to bring on a wonderful, restful nap! There was bright sunshine and a stiff breeze most of the day...much better than gray colored days with lots of clouds.
