Apr 15, 2013 - Arrived at Sun Roamers RV Resort.

Hi Y'all Two great days for driving, overcast and no rain. Made it through Houston on Sunday afternoon but I don't think the traffic lessens any. I did keep to the left when I should have kept to the right. We both noticed but too late to do anything about it. But we left it to 'old numnuts' (our GPS) and he got us out of our problem lickedy split. Already my computer has told me that I have had two misspellings, but I'm leaving them just to spite the spell check. Had a great evening at Gulf Coast RV (except their Internet antenna was...

Nov 19, 2012 - A Day Without Incident. At Last!

Well Y'all, I finally know what a day without incident is really like. I've told all y'all about my Bearing problems and here are a few pictures. It would have been more dramatic if I had the presence of mind to take photos out of the highway with a State Trooper putting flares out on the highway for us as the traffic thundered by. Some slowing but a continual roar. A call to Good Sam's found us a place willing to fix us up but no way to get there. The patrolman Trooper Pace was great in staying with us and going out of his way to contact...

Apr 13, 2012 - Second Day of Northern Trek.

Hi Y'all !! Just arrived at Sun Roamers RV Resort in Picayune, Mississippi. It's located just a bit north of New Orleans. Right after setting up the rig I awarded myself a dip in the pool. It was so much more refreshing than the hot bathtub temps they run in the pool at Bentsen. My blood's not that thin yet that I have to endure heat to swim.... I normally swim to get cool! We left Gulf Coast RV Resort in Beaumont, Texas about 8 am after gorging ourselves with home made waffles and coffee. We love stopping there because of the free...

Nov 15, 2011 - Sun Roamers RV Resort, Picayune, Mississippi.

Hi there Y'all, Well here we are on the last legs of I59 and tomorrow we turn westward on I10 to make our way through Louisiana to overnight at Gulf Coast RV Resort in Beaumont, Texas. Then just one day to our old Campground in Corpus Christi to visit a couple of days with our good friends who winter there at Hatch RV. We had a very rainy driving day today, sometimes quite heavy downpours. Otherwise driving was pleasant. The outside temps climbed steadily all day and when we parked here at Sun Roamers RV the temp was 28 deg C. Well the AC...

Nov 17, 2010 - Sun Roamers RV Resort, Picayune, Mississippi.

Just a really short note to let you know that we reached the Sun Roamers RV Resort in Mississippi. We had a really good driving day. Had to stop to have a spike taken out of our read driver's side truck tire and a plug installed. A really nice shop in Birmingham where all I had to pay was 10 bucks to tip the mechanic. The shop had two Labrador Retrievers, a black male and a 7 month old Chocolate female, Rita had a ball while we got the tire fixed. Tomorrow is 'Turkey Day' here in the US so the shops will be closed and I suggest the highways...

Nov 19, 2009 - Sun Roamers RV, Picayune, Mississippi.

Hi y'all! This is the worst connection I've had to the Internet since we left home. Yes, even worse than the one I stole from a neighbor of John and Rosemary's backyard in Concord. I no sooner get connected and type a few words then I get dropped before I can save what I have on my mind (which at best times is little). Then I have to start all over again.. Oh well I can handle that! We we got up good and early this morning, noticed that last night's temps had dropped to 3 deg.C so we noticed you guys at home were about the same. Well we...

Mar 21, 2008 - Trip to and Arriving at Sun Roamers RV Park in Picyune, MS

This morning the sun was bursting in through the windows. What a magnificent feeling after the many days of overcast, raining and just plain blowing days. Don't supposed the tail end of what is now hitting home is now past us. Look at the satellite shots on TV and its been spreading from deep south Texas all the way up the eastern seaboard. With that look at a beautiful day Rita wakes , no, not wakes up, but gets up after two nights of really bad sleeps she's worn out and has to really work hard to get with the plan. It's really hard to...

Feb 16, 2007 - 2-16-07 Picayune, Mississippi

2-16-07 Yesterday we moved from Robertsdale, Alabama, to Picayune, Mississippi. The weather is cold but sunny, and you may say it is bitter sweet. This morning the thermometer registered 30 degrees: much warmer than the 24 degrees the night before! Our plans include a trip across Lake Pontchartrain to New Orleans. Hopefully the weather will warm up along with the revelers of Mardi Gras. The Lake Pontchartrain causeway (bridge, trestle) is the longest bridge in the world measuring almost 24 miles in length. (YES! I checked the gas gauge...

Feb 9, 2007 - Picayune, MS

Picayune was an unplanned destination that turned out to be delightful. When we arrived at our reserved site, we discovered that it was now a FEMA disaster park without restrooms or paved roads. This necessitated some frantic phone calls to parks down the road. The devastation here is still so tragic. Our hearts went out to the people we met who were affected by Hurricane Katrina. Sharing a Mardi Gras King Cake with the staff who took us in at Sun Roamers RV Park in Picayune led to us learning about its history, beginning in Europe with the...

Jan 13, 2007 - Poplarville, Mississippi - John "Hard Times" Thetford

Left Birmingham at 7:00 AM. Arrived at John "Hard Times" Thetford's country place "high on a hill" in Poplarville, Mississippi at 12:15 - made good time driving. We went to lunch at The Catfish Cottage. Everything was excellent. They had some of the best hush puppies I ever tasted. Hard times tells me this is one of Jack Serio's favorite places, who is home sick in bed because he couldn't get a ticket to the Saints playoff game tonight. We cooked a couple of steaks (prime filet mignon) for dinner, and listened to the Saints game on the...
