Jun 15, 2019 - Benchmark RV

We took Hwy 45 that is a divided highway but is pretty rough, needs some maintenance but had a good drive. We are at a level long site at Benchmark RV and I was able to go to Sams to get groceries. It rained at night and so in the AM it was the first time we had to drain the slides as they came in.

Mar 13, 2019 - more time in Mississippi

After having an early lunch with our friends Sue and Joe in Grenada, we headed further South to the town of Meridian Mississippi for a couple nights’ stay at the Benchmark RV Park. This was an interesting stop – the RV park has some strange hours – check in time starts at 1pm but the office is closed. You call the number taped to the front door and they tell you what site to park in. Then you come back to the office to pay when they open at around 4:30. They put us into spot 11-B which was a nice long pull-through site near the office. It...

2019 Life in our RV

Dec 29, 2018 - Bowl Games in Mississippi

It was an easy drive from Decatur, at the top of Alabama, heading SW to the middle of the eastern border of Mississippi. My odometer reading changed midway and instead of telling me my mileage it said Low Coolant Level. Boy, my truck is really pushing my buttons. Twelve miles later, I stopped at a T/A truck center and a nice fellow checked my coolant level. Said it was nearly full. Nevertheless, he topped it off and I bought two jugs of coolant. The warning did not reappear. I'll be watching for it. Today, though, no worries or frets other...

Oct 5, 2018 - The I-20

On our way to the next campground, we stopped in Talledega Alabama and took a tour of Talledaga Motor Speedway. OMG! The Alabama Gang was ever present here - the town totally survives because of the speedway. Didn't have time to tour the museum but we did take time for a tour of the track and facilities. The tour was not as good as those we'd been on earlier, but the facility itself was outstanding. Stayed just east of Meridian in Toomsuba Mississippi at the KOA Journey there. This is right on the border of Alabama and Mississippi....

Apr 13, 2018 - Bonita Lakes RV Park

Last evening around 6 pm, while walking Sophie down the pet trail at the Nashville North KOA, I had a little scare (this is Sue talking). We were walking back along the path toward our RV, Sophie was sniffing her way along, I looked up and there was a coyote on the path about 100 feet in front of us. Thank goodness Sophie was too busy with the smells to notice. It hunkered down, and I made a quick exit from the path between two trailers to the road on the other side. I turned and looked through the opening in the trailers and saw the coyote...

Apr 3, 2018 - Meridian, MS

This park specializes in one night stopovers. No frills, no staff, just conveniently off the highway. That's all. I spent some time talking to the neighbors, all nice people. All on their way home, just like us. Amazingly, I ran into a couple who camped right behind us in El Mirage for about a week, back in the first week of March! Tom and Jinny Mulvey from Lockport, NY (near Buffalo). I charged the truck batteries all night while we were here, but surprisingly it was still no-go in the morning. I got a jump start from another camper and...

Jan 7, 2016 - On the Move Again

At last, we are ready to chase a few adventures again! Some might say just crawling out of bed in the a.m. is adventure enough, but we like pushing the proverbial envelope. Today, the map is all routed to the Lone Star State. We got a good early start. First off, Gary wanted to test out the new braking system he installed on our tow vehicle, so, not far from the park, we pulled over. Gary wanted to ride in the towed Jeep while I drove the motorhome and slammed on the brakes. See? Pushing that envelope only ten minutes out! After that...

Nov 30, 2015 - Meridian, MS

Back on the road and driving out of the rain. It's still raining as we pass through Chattanooga and turn on to I-59. The traffic is light and the weather is getting better as we pass into Alabama and through Birmingham and Tuscaloosa. Twenty miles into Mississippi and we pull into Benchmark Coach & RV Park in Meridian, MS. It's a small, no frills park and with our Passport America membership only costs us $20. Not bad for full hook ups, 50A electric, cable TV and wireless internet at our site. Today's journey was 6:45 and 363...

Aug 14, 2015 - Heading Towards Atlanta

Today we said good bye to New Orleans. Although, I didn't enjoy it as much as I had hoped, I left many things that I still wanted to do. That just means we get to go back - when the weather is cooler! As we head NE, Kerry decided we would travel via the Lake Pontchatrain Causeway. This is a 24 mile bridge over Lake Pontchatrain. Up until 2011, it was the longest, continuous bridge over water in the world. At the other end of the Causeway and 11 miles east is Lacombe, Louisiana. We decided to take a small detrour to visit our sister city and...

Jan 27, 2015 - Meridian, MS

349 miles today across Georgia, Alabama, and Mississippi. BUT... The grass here is green! And the temp is 62 degrees! We are tired but will have an extra day to rest up, do some shopping, and enjoy the outdoors. Mack and Holly have gotten very restless since they noticed the green grass and sunshine. They will spend a few hours out on their leash and harness today. I-20 goes right through Atlanta. I was a little worried about what the traffic would be like, but it was no problem. There was about 20 miles of suburban Interstate highway...

Oct 14, 2014 - Meridian, MS

The trip from Shreveport to Meridian was uneventful. We were glad we had not attempted to travel yesterday – weather today was perfect! We were in camp in Meridian by 2:30 or so. Jean proposed that we take in a movie to relax, so we drove to a nearby complex to see “The Judge” with Robert Duvall and Robert Downey, Jr. Three of us thought it was very good – great acting. One of us was less impressed. I’ll let you figure it out! We have decided not to stop in the Atlanta area as we originally planned. For one thing, the pickings are slim on...
