31 Aug After final adjustments to the slide we were on our way for a casual drive down the Natchez Trace National Park Trail to Tupelo Mississippi. The Natchez Trace runs from near Nashville Tennessee to Natchez Mississippi. It has served many peoples for hundreds of years including civil war armys, but is most known for being the trail the “Kaintuks” used to walk back home to their northern homes after having floated down the Mississippi River to sell their crops and goods. We learned the hard way the value of semi trucks on the highway....

Apr 5, 2012 - An evening with Uncle Wally

While we were in Natchez, without good cellular service for phones and wifi, we did spend quite a bit of time exploring the many antebellum homes in this beautiful little city on a bluff above the Mississippi River. Before the Civil War, this community had the highest per capita income of any place in the U.S. That was driven by King Cotton and the free labor that allowed these barons to be immensely wealthy. Antebellum homes in essence means homes pre-dating the Civil War. We found it interesting that all of these grand homes in Natchez...
