Apr 5, 2014 - In with new and out with the old!!!

Apr 5 Con’t from yesterday . . . We had to hook up in partial rain – always a fun thing. We got underway and did not have to drive through any rain as we motored back along the route we had taken from Memphis to Red Bay nearly 3 weeks ago. The skies got lighter and before we reached Memphis (150 miles) we had a beautiful day with temps in the 60s and full sun. We arrived at our destination, the Memphis Jellystone Park in Horn Lake, MS just south of Memphis, in the mid-afternoon. This is a new and a nice park. It is well laid out, mostly...

Apr 28, 2011 - Weather Report

I know that some of you have been concerned about our traveling in the bizarre weather that is going on throughout the south. We are fine and we are being mindful. We pulled into the Yogi Bear RV Park in Horn Lake, Mississippi, which is located just south of Memphis, Tennessee, about 2 PM on Tuesday, the 26th. We had great traveling weather and the weather was good but cloudy up until about 4 PM when all hell broke loose. Torrential rains began and the sky turned dark. We had been watching the news channel trying to follow where the storms...

The Long Road Home

Apr 26, 2011 - Horn Lake, Mississippi

Sorry I'm so far behind on this blog. I told myself I was going to do a little each day so it wouldn't all pile up on me but like my New Years Resolution ..... well, you know! We arrived in Horn Lake, Mississippi today under the threat of rain and tornadoes once again! Seems like they are following us everywhere and we're not even close to Kansas yet Toto. Horn Lake is about 15 minutes south of Memphis, just across the state line, and one of the main reasons for stopping here is so that Dick can hook up with a guy that is extremely...

The Long Road Home

May 20, 2010 - Columbus Air Show & Memphis

I am writing this while Wal is driving to Nashville as it is nearly a 4 hour journey. While we were staying in Tupelo we drove 60 miles to Columbus to see the Air Show there. There were lots of planes to see on the ground which you could also go on. There was tight security as we went through the gates , Wal had to return to the car with a penknife or put it in the bin, we were parked on a runway nearly ½ mile away. We saw a plane the C17 very big took off very quickly but flew along so slow looked like it was hardly moving, showed us how...

Wandering America

Aug 23, 2009 - Horn Lake, MS

DATE: Aug 23, 2009 FROM: Audubon Point RV Park, Horn Lake, MS TO: Oklahoma City KOA, Chocktaw, OK MILES: 474 in 9 hrs = 52.6 mph; Decided to bypass Fort Smith, AK and get an extra day in Oklahoma – stopping one night to visit a Civil War battlefield and leave the next morning didn’t make much sense “on the road” – on paper it looked good but we nixed the idea. Beautiful traveling weather – couldn’t ask for clearer blue skies with a nice breeze – warm but very comfortable. Arkansas was much flatter than I anticipated – especially in the...
