Dec 3, 2012 - Last day on the shore.

BAYWOOD RV CAMPGROUND, GULFPORT,MS....MONDAY For some reason, I woke up at 0500 this morning and couldn't go back to sleep, so I got up at 0530, made the coffee and had breakfast. Haven't been able to adapt to central time. After breakfast, I went to work on yesterday's journal. It took a while, with all the pictures. Edie was up about 8. I had an upset stomach again and she had a sore throat. We didn't do much before lunch. Had a light lunch here, and we were both feeling better so we drove up to Biloxi town to look around. The first...

Dec 2, 2012 - Beauvoir and Biloxi

BAYWOOD RV CAMPGROUND, GULFPORT,MS SUNDAY Today is sightseeing day. We took it easy this morning. I got a reservation for our next stop in Mobile and tweaked the travel plan a little. We plan to arrive back home next Sunday. We had lunch in the coach and then left for Beauvoir, a mansion that was the last home of Jefferson Davis, to buy tickets for a tour of Biloxi and the Davis home. We were the only people on board the small bus, and the driver/guide was very accomodating by stopping if we wanted to take a picture. He also was very...

BAYWOOD RV CAMPGROUND, GULFPORT,MS SATURDAY I woke up early this morning and was up before 0700. Seems like I need to stay away from oysters these days...had a bit of a tummy ache. Had a donut for breakfast. Edie did laundry this morning and that should hold us till we get home a week from tomorrow. I loaded my pill boxes for the week and called prescriptions in to the local Walgreens. We had a light lunch after she got thru and after lunch I took some Pepto-Bismol, which relieved the stomach problems pretty much. There was a problem...

BAYWOOD RV PARK, GULFPORT,MS FRIDAY The speedometer has another 122 miles on it this evening, so it was an easy day. We took our time leaving Pensacola this morning, checkout time being 1100. We didn't want to get here too early to get in. After leaving the park, we refueled the coach, managing to get in and out of the service station without any mishaps. -). Gas was $3.32 where we stopped. By the time we had refueled and got on I 10 it was lunch time, so we stopped 7 miles down the road at the Alabama Welcome Center and had a light...

Oct 30, 2012 - An eventful 2 days....

Where do I begin????? We left Branson about 9:30 yesterday morning. The skies were sunny and the temperature was 42, I think. We stopped at Wild Bill's at the state line and fueled up the motorhome for $150.00...OUCH... We headed down hwy 65 to Harrison, where we stopped at our mail service to pick up our mail. Then we continued on hwy 65 almost to Marshall, AR when the fun began. I was driving and felt and heard something hit the motorhome. I pulled off the road as soon as I could (about 100 yards away). Jackie got out and looked around...

Oct 14, 2012 - Madisonville Wooden Boat show

We visited Judi and Dan and took a drive to the wooden boat festival in Madisonville, a quaint historic town on the north shore. There were fantantic wooden boats and yachts all along the river, some could be toured. We visited booths selling all types of crafts and had shrimp muffellattas, Dan found alligator and bratwurst too. We saw the parade of boats that were built in a few hours with limited materiats, they were launched on the river - rowed to the starting spot and then sailed on blue tarp sails to the finish line. The bridge was...

Oct 13, 2012 - Cruisin the coast

Today Judi and Dan came over to check out the motorhome and our campground. We then took a drive along Hwy 90 from Gulfport to Biloxi at 1 mile per hour as we joined the traffic of onlookers and cruisers, seeing just about every kind of old and souped up car, truck and truck. We did see some of the flyover - small planes along the coast at 500 feet or less. The weather was perfect, beach is pristine, a great day with lots of traffic and partying about to start all along the highway.

Summer 2012

Oct 12, 2012 - Lacombe

Today we visited my cousin Judi in Lacombe. She took us on a scenic tour or the areas flooded by Katrina and Isaac, many canals and bayous on the the north shore of Lake Pontchartrain. We also went to dinner once Dan came home from work at Zea, a local restaurant that had very good food. Not cajun, but good nonetheless. On the way west, we took Hwy 90 from Gulfport and saw the 500 year old Friendship Oak on the campus of the university in Long Beach. The drive was surprisingly uncongested and scenic.

Summer 2012

Oct 11, 2012 - Biloxi and cruisin the coast

Today we checked out Gulfport, Biloxi and other towns along Hwy 90, the coast. A weeklong annual event, cruisin the coast is in full swing here, lots of classic cars, all kinds, converge on this coast line. We saw them driving in when we came on I10 yesterday and along the road there are cars parked in hotel lots, RV's in open lots, it's pretty interesting. People have set themselves up in lawn chairs along the route, people cooking and selling food and all other items are on the road too. We took a tour train around Biloxi and found out...

Summer 2012

Oct 10, 2012 - Gulfport MS

What a day. It started out so perfect, that means trouble. We were about 40 miles out of Ducson when the tire monitor went off and then the left tire blew on the tandem tow. We were on a bridge so couldn't pull over off the road, hazardous. We called the towing service who sent out police to control traffic around us. Ray took the car off, the fender was all torn up and the tire was in shreds. He was able, with a LITTLE help from one policeman, to get the spare tire on and the fender off. Originally the police thought we'd have to get a tow...

Summer 2012

Jul 2, 2012 - The Gulf Coast

We drove for 5 hours for another 325 miles today. It's very hot in the afternoons but the air conditioners in the RV work really well when we are stopped in a campground. We are in Gulfport, MS which is a little ways east of New Orleans. After a dinner of shrimp and catfish at a local restaurant, we drove along the waterfront to see what it looks like since it was devastated by Hurricane Katrina. It still looks very sad as there are more empty lots than those with structures on them. Some beautiful homes have been repaired and there are a...

RV Trip Summer 2012

Apr 1, 2012 - Gulfport, Mississippi

We moved into Mississippi today and we are staying at Southern Oaks RV in Gulfport, MS for 4 nights. We had a problem with our awning and got an appointment Friday morning at Reliable RV to have it looked at. They were able to fix it in ½ hour—they were very quick, friendly and fair—they were certainly reliable. We drove through Gulfport and west along the beaches on the gulf. They have beautiful white sand on the beaches. We stopped at The Shrimp Basket for lunch. Terry had fresh red snapper and Peggy had a fish taco. It was a great meal....
