Oct 15, 2013 - Relaxing

Spent the day relaxing today, took a drive along the coast and into some of the surrounding communities. Found some really nice neighborhoods. Visited our friend Taz again as he is back in the hospital. Paul is already planning for next year. We both really like the area and have agreed that it is a good place to be in the winter. Who knows what a year will bring. Temperature today 84 degrees. Loving the warmth.

Oct 14, 2013 - New Orleans

Spent the day in New Orleans today. We were really excited to see if it had changed since we were there before Katrina. We were pleasantly surprised to find that the biggest change was that it was actually cleaner. We started out by going to the French Market. It is the biggest flea market we've ever been to. From there we went up Decatur St. to Cafe' du Monde, the original French Market coffee stand, serving the famous beignets. Can't go to New Orleans without having this treat! Then we were on to Jackson Square where the St. Louis...

Oct 13, 2013 - Taking it easy

Well we have been here for a few days and can't say we've done very much. We went to see our friend Taz and found the prognosis for him isn't so good. He was able to recognize us but was unable to communicate except for yes and no questions. He did finally have a smile for us. He lives with 2 brothers who are completely dedicated to him and take care of all his needs. They seemed genuinely happy that we came for a visit. We will see him a couple more times before we leave. There is a "Cruise the Coast" celebration going on here. There are...

Oct 9, 2013 - going south

Left Vicksburg at 9 AM on US27. Our destination is Gulfport. We will be staying in that area for about 1 week. Will be able to visit our old friend Taz,see the Gulf of Mexico, and take a day to go to New Orleans. There are a lot of lumber mills and cattle farms in this area. We have seen mostly Black Angus and Brahmas. We also saw one huge goat farm. The trees along this route through Crystal Springs and Magee are so thick on both sides of the road they create an arch and are so thick you can't see through them. Reminds me of the road into...

Jun 11, 2013 - OTRA - MS -Gulfport

6/11/13 After spending the early a.m. downtown until 9:30 at the garage getting the oil changed, home I went and we were packed up and ready to leave by 10 a.m. That has got to be some kind of record for us! The drive eastward was fine...until we got back to the section of I-10 that skirts Baton Rouge and then, again, it was Bump-de-bump-de-bump-de-bump... We left I-10 at Exit 2 in Mississippi (Route 607) and then merged onto Route 90 so we could drive along the Gulf from Bay St. Louis to Gulfport. And a beautiful drive it was. The beaches...

Mar 31, 2013 - Pass Christian

Mar 30, 2013 - Livingston, TX to Gulfport, MS

Saturday, March 30th – We had a very nice drive down to the 10 and across to the 12 and back to the 10 to Gulfport. It took us 6 hours. We found the Island View Casino without any problem, but we did not know where the motorhome parking was located. I turned into the wrong parking area and was in the process of trying to make my way out when one of the shuttle drivers saw Shonda, who was out of the rig helping me turn a corner around a parked car. The shuttle driver told her where we should park. We found the motorhome parking area right...

Mar 29, 2013 - Gulf coast gator ranch.

Feb 19, 2013 - The End

Our last day's ride was uneventful until we met Naomi from Vancouver. She had ridden the train from Vancouver to Chicago to New Orleans. Then she was riding her bike to Florida to meet a friend, and to ride together up the East Coast. What a cool adventure! We finished by picking up the car and checking out of the Gulfport airport parking with Wanda who had followed our blog since we left! We will be driving north to see Olivia and family before we head home. So, we are ending our trip with appreciation for our readers and excitement for...

Dec 11, 2012 - Magic River RV Park,Gulfport, Mississippi

Stopped for one night in Gulfport to visit Mike's cousin Bruce Johnson(Uncle Garvin's son) and his wife Deanie. Had a nice visit. Toured around to see the reconstruction after Hurricane Katrina. Very large tidal surge here wiped out most of the property along the shore! Their house was far enough inland and high enough above sea level that it did not sustain significant damage.
