Jul 13, 2013 - Grenada and Frog Hollow

Well, we made it to Grenada Mississippi !! and to one of our favorite RV parks...Frog Hollow !! I am including many pictures, 'cause this place deserves to be seen! The park itself is neat and well run, but its the little extras....when you go in to register, you get to see their frog collection... I am including only a tiny portion of that... from the entry gate, to the "frog footprints" as you enter... (somewhere along the line they lost their "Beware of Killer Frog" sign by the door..) to the cases of HUNDREDS of frogs of all...

Mar 7, 2013 - to Grenada MS; 17/266

130307-Thu-73123 miles-Sadly our vacation is almost over. We only drove 370 miles because we broke down, overheated at about 230. A mobile repair guy came out and we found that a water hose blew and we lost all our coolant. He fixed it and put anti-freeze and water in it and it runs fine. We got back on the road about 430. We pulled in to a campground just after sunset. We are right next to the freeway. I will pretend its white noise for free, or at least no extra charge. I’ll try to find a pattern in it. Madeline (8) discovered that she...

Aug 22, 2012 - Grenada, Mississippi

We woke up to sunny skies again, so took advantage of the nice weather, and headed down the Natchez Trace Parkway, which runs from Nashville to Natchez, Mississippi, lol. The speed limits were slow, starting at 40 mph, but later increasing to 50 mph. (We got a little carried away at one point, and the local police driving in the opposite direction, turned on their lights, waving their hands out the window, and gave us a warning) What a beautiful ride through the plush countryside, forests all around us, and winding roads through the park....

Apr 28, 2011 - Making our Way Home

We stayed an extra night in Baton Rouge. The weather in the Mississippi/Alabama area was forecast for bad weather and we are so glad we stayed where we were. I am sure everyone has seen the devastation in this part of the country. But so far, we have had no problems. We will drive to Cape Girardeau, Mo. tomorrow and stop and see Jack for a while. It us a 4 hour drive from here and that is about all that Elgin can handle in a day. He has done well, but he has been shaky tonight. We went to Wendy's and bought our dinner to bring back to the...

Nov 1, 2010 - A Short Trip to Grenada, MS

Let it never be said that we do nothing spontaneously! LOL When we travel we are usually on the road at least by 8:00 AM and like to travel for six hours or so. Today was an exception. We were up around 5:30 and sat together sipping our coffee, while watching the river with it’s barge traffic going by. As the sun rose, Marilyn snapped a few pictures to share with you. We finished our coffee and made a decision to leave today but we were in no hurry. We visited with our neighbors, Mike and Pat, finally saying “So Long” with shared hugs and a...

Jul 4, 2010 - Grenada Mississippi...Frog Hollow.......

Trekkin’ on to Fargo….stayed last night at Frog Hollow, in Grenada Ms. We were late getting in ‘cause we took a slight side trip. The dentist in Biloxi had recommended that we do it. At the north tip of Jackson, we left US 55 and went about 30 miles up the Natchez Trace Parkway…it is a fairly famous trail that has been used since early Indian times, I guess….runs over 400 miles, from Natchez to Nashville. Was originally a path used by Indians, traders, and such. Hardly any of that trail is left to hike, but they built the parkway along the...

Apr 2, 2008 - "Well I'm going to Jackson, don't want to stick around..."

Anyone recognize Johnny Cash's song? We are camped in Grenada, Mississippi at the moment in a place called Frog Hollow. How quaint is that! Their store is full of frog stuff! We left Mobile, Alabama this morning about 7:45. The time change is really messing with us as it was really 8:45 Florida time, but we were awake at 7:00 and ready to go. It was really foggy and a bit misty but eventually cleared up. The roads were very hilly and pretty, lots of trees and flowering shrubs which we think some of them are magnolias as Mississippi is the...

Feb 29, 2008 - Leaving the Big Easy

Well, today we checked out and started back north to the cold. As we left the hotel, we saw the Street Car that is in the first picture. I believe I read somewhere that this street car line is the oldest continuing running one in the country. The Street Cars of New Orleans allows visiters to leave their cars in the garage and still travel to the many sites in the city. The house in the second photo is one of the best in the Garden District. We decided to drive around the District before leaving the city since we were so close and had never...

Feb 10, 2008 - Sunday

Sunday started very early, as we wanted to go to 7:00 Mass. Got to the church with the nice map that was drawn for us. And luckily, their Knights of Columbus council, was doing a pancake breakfast. Very good breakfast, and got us started off on the right foot for the day. Started east again, still on I-70, and as we went through a suburb of St. Louis, I looked up in the rear view mirror, and there was a police car, with his lights on, so pulled over. He came up, and wanted to know if the wind was blowing us around so much. (I didn't tell...
