Jan 27, 2016 - Natchez, Mississippi

This morning, we took ourselves, the motorhome, and the Jeep across the bridge to Natchez, Mississippi, and to our first stop of the day, the Natchez Visitor Center. We enjoyed the exhibits, watched a short film and picked up a mountain of brochures. From a previous visit, Gary and I knew there were many narrow streets in Natchez. The ladies at the Visitor Center assured us we were welcome to leave the motorhome parked in their lot while we toured in the Jeep. That was a relief. It was that or scout out a friendly Walmart to park our...

Oct 31, 2015 - Happy Haloween from Canton MS

Friday Oct. 30, 2015 (Tupelo MS to Canton MS) It was a very pleasant day; the temperatures were in the mid 70’s with lots of sunshine and little wind. We departed the RV Park at Tupelo around 9:30 AM and continued south down the Natchez Trace. Our plan was to only travel about 75 miles and stay at a campground that is another National campground on the parkway called “Jeff Busby”. We stopped at a couple of pull outs along the parkway where our map indicated historical events had taken place. We were disappointed at several of the sites as...

Apr 7, 2014 - Clearer Skies

278 miles today for a grand total of 472 for both days. Cherie's butt is tired. All across Alabama and Mississippi we saw the aftermath of the severe storm last night. Power lines down, trees on top of homes, rivers out of the banks, a lot of repair work in action. Found a true full service gas station, "Bama Pit Stop". The owner came out to service our bikes, gas, windshield cleaning, etc. Since we did our own, he allowed us to come inside and have our picnic lunch inside the station. Pictures to be uploaded tomorrow. Very scenic ride for...

May 14, 2012 - Moving on - back to the Trace

Fri 5/11 Moving day! We enjoyed Vicksburg and seeing most of what was related to the Battles and the Siege but it is time to move on. We left Vicksburg, headed east on I-20 and got back on the Trace at the point near Clinton where we exited yesterday. We drove north, stopping and visiting all of the points of interest (POIs) along the way. We utilized one of the many picnic areas on the Trace to made a sandwich. At the Bald Cypress/Tupelo Swamp (cool place - MM 122), we walked the trail around the swamp seeing one turtle and two snappers...

Apr 9, 2011 - Canton, MS - Ratliff Ferry Camp

We needed a campground for the night so we decided to give Ratliff Ferry Campground a try. It was a very active boat lauch and a little rustic but we found a fairly level site with full hookups so we could not go wrong for the night. That is one of the nice things about traveling in your motorhome. No matter where you stop, you always are in your own home and sleeping in your own bed. The campground was on Yockanookany River at the north end of the Ross Barnett Reservoir. We stopped at the Pigeon Roost roadside exhibit where millions of...

Rojoe 2010-2011

Apr 5, 2011 - Canton, Mississippi

Our plans changed last weekend when bad weather was predicted for a huge area north of us in the direction we were planning to drive on Monday. As a result, we decided to postpone our departure from Monday to Tuesday. The last two days were spent at the pool, reading and going out for a Sunday brunch that was terrific. On Sunday I finished a book "The Indifferent Stars Above" about a group of settlers traveling to California from Illinois in 1847. They left too late and took the advice of someone they did not know to take a supposed...

Mar 16, 2010 - A Long Travel Day

It has been the longest day ever....one of those days that if anything could go wrong....it would. We really did not spend that much time on the road. We decided to take 3 days to travel the 574 miles to Dexter Mo. from Convent, La. , because of my sprained ankle. As we were leaving the park this morning my wide left turn was not wide enough and I was just inches from being in the ditch with the trailer. If we had not had the walkie talkies and Carl Jr. yelling STOP....anyway...he got me backed up and on the straight and narrow path again....

The Davis Dream

Dec 10, 2008 - We escaped!!

With another winter storm licking at our heels, we managed to escape Milwaukee just in the knick of time. (We learned later there was five inches of new snow after we left.) We picked up the truck Monday morning and by 1:00 we were on the road. First stop, Finnegan’s RV in South Beloit, IL. Finnegan’s is the dealer where we purchased our Carriage. We thought we would have them look after some things that needed taking care of. We had some water line issues at our park in Milwaukee and some kind of gunk got in and clogged up our kitchen and...
