Feb 21, 2013 - Finally Out of Florida

Today was another good day. We left Falling Waters Park to head for Ft. Walton Beach and thanks to the fact that we forgot to turn our clock back, we gained an extra hour. I am having a hard time figuring out how we both got up and dressed for work within an hour and it takes us 2-3 hours to get out of a campsite in the morning. We had our usual geography issues. When all else fails I just keep heading west. As usual, if we want to go right, we are in the far left and if left, then we are in the far right. I only had to back up once on I10...

Feb 11, 2013 - Feb 11 ,2013

Well I tried to make an entry but it didn't seem to work so I will try again. We kept the room for another night so there wasn't a rush to go anywhere. Biloxi is along the gulf but we are staying on the main land a mile away. We spent some time at the casinos and even during the day there are people in the Mardi Gras mood. The men are wearing tuxs and the women are in long gowns, in the morning, maybe still from last night. We took a tour of the city and it is very nice. The beaches are awesome but not very busy today. It was foggy in the...

Feb 10, 2013 - Feb 10, 2013

We left the hotel early and it looks like we spent too much time at the beach and should have been in main land St. Augustine. The have a huge castle, fort, lighthouse and a nine house museum we could have seen for starters. We did walk around the fort but it wasn't open for another hour so if we every get back to Florida this town will have to be on the list of places to come. We took a route to #10 that by passed Jacksonville and it was a very nice dive. After getting on it was 75mph so we made some good time. We filled up twice in Fl it...

Nov 27, 2012 - Biloxi, Ms

We spent a great week in Biloxi, Ms and feel like we did a lot, even though the week also seemed quite relaxing. We visited casinos, saw the movie Lincoln, had burgers and a drink at the Elks Lodge, took a driving trip along the coast, attended church, Ed went fishing and fishing, took a day trip to the Gulf Shores National Park at Davis Bayou, ate a great Thanksgiving dinner, finally got our Flu Shots, and finished 2 books apiece. We hadn't been in this area for quite a few years - before Hurricane Katrina - so we took a drive on Highway...

Nov 21, 2012 - Happy Thanksgiving

Happy Turkey Day to everyone. We are now in Biloxi, Mississippi staying at a Coast to Coast park for $10 a night. We were hoping the park would have a planned Thanksgiving dinner, as so many of the other parks we have been in at Thanksgiving have done. But no such luck here. So guess we will be eating dinner at one of the casinos buffets in Biloxi. We are in the south, so the menu will be a bit different for these Northerners. I will miss my sister's homemade sage dressing and her wonderful pies. And we will miss being with family and...

Nov 20, 2012 - Broke Brakes

Today we traveled a whopping 20 miles from Gautier to Biloxi, Mississippi. Stopped at Jefferson Davis home and realized 1 of rear truck brakes was binding and so hot you could not touch center of rim. Went ahead and did tour of home which was very interesting. There were 7 separate original buildings until Katrina. Storm surge was 23 feet so main house with front door at 22 feet is only one to survive. Also learned that after the death of Davis's widow, she specified that the home would remain available as living quarters for Confederate...

Nov 10, 2012 - Biloxi, MS 2012

Everybody has heard of Biloxi, Mississippi. But, how many have actually visited this once thriving seafood manufacturing town. Between Hurricane Camille in 1969 and Hurricane Katrina in 2005, Biloxi has had a difficult time staying alive and well. The damage was devastating and the casualties too many. Biloxi has a summer season which includes beautiful sugar white sandy beaches, surfing, good food, casino and just relaxing. We stayed at the Elks Lodge with 30 amp electricity and water. No dump. We have been trying different black tank...

Jun 2, 2012 - Halleluiah Anyhow!

Well Friday was a memorable day. Off to a smooth start back on the road and then RV gage showed engine hot, so we stop and check. Engine not hot must be gage. Praised the Lord and continued on. Stopped in Rest Area and started to leave and engine stopped running like no gas. Larry got under the RV and worked on it and it started up and we continued on Praising the Lord. About 32 miles from destination RV stops again and we are on the side of the road. Unhooked the Smart car and Larry goes looking for a fuel pump. Finds just the one he needs...

Go West Trip 2012

Apr 30, 2012 - Still In Biloxi

Hi All, If we all remember out history lesson we know who Jefferson Davis was. Rich in history, Beauvoir (Jefferson Davis's estate)is the home of the only President of the Confederate States of America and the place where he penned his memoirs. The 51 acre estate, fronting the Gulf of Mexico, was also once the site of the Mississippi Confederate soldier's home, which cared for hundreds of Southern veterans and their wives, There is a historic cemetery in which lies the Tomb Of the Unknown Confederate Soldier. We certainly did learn a lot of...

Apr 28, 2012 - Enjoying every day of retirement.

We have spent the last two days just driving around and looking at old houses and the beaches. Got our Walmart and Sam's shopping done. That is alwas a big job. Trying to decide what to buy to eat. We stopped by the goodwill and bought some books. I am reading Fried Green Tomatoes, I had seen the movie but never read the book. It is so funny. Once I start a book I can't put it down until I am finished. Donald makes me take a walk every once in awhile which is nice once we get started. Not allot going on right now just relaxing which we are...

Don't wake me up

Apr 25, 2012 - short move.

We moved 50 miles today over to Biloxi, Ms. We are at Martin Lake Resort. A real nice campground with a beautiful lake. Seems to be allot of full time campers here. They have a real nice playground and swimming pool. Don't need the playground but hope to use the pool. Will be here until Monday the 30th. Donald wants to go into Biloxi to the drag strip tonight. I'm not real excited but guess I will go with him. The weather is great. It was about 82 degrees here today but it cools off at night. Hope to take some pictures tomorrow and will...
