Jan 9, 2013 - Casino night

Only drove for a half day today. We left Florida and Alabama in our wake and are spending the night at the Hollywood Casino RV park in Bay Saint Louis. If the weather looks good in the morning we will head out. Should this expected rainstorm and flash flooding through Louisiana continue into tomorrow we will spend another day here and will leave after things have settled down.

Jul 30, 2012 - MS Gulf Coast

Bay St. Louis, MS Silver Slipper Casino RV Park This morning was incredibly hot and humid. The sunrise was pretty but only for a moment before it became a ball of blazing heat. I worked on removing some of the dirt, grime, and splattered bugs off the coach before it was too hot to do anything except stay inside. The RV park is almost empty, only 2 other campers here other than us. No one is outside. I think the heat index today was 105. We took a drive down the coast back to Biloxi to see what things look like since the last time we were...

Jul 29, 2012 - Summerdale, AL to Bay St Louis, MS

Summerdale, AL to Bay St. Louis, MS 136 miles We left the RV park around 11:30am this morning in the stifling heat. Once we were on I-10 it was not long before traffic became a slow crawl approaching the bridge over Mobile Bay. The congestion was only west bound and it appeared to be nothing more than very heavy traffic. It took us over an hour to travel 12 miles until we reached the west side of Mobile, AL. Once we were on the other side of Mobile traffic was moving at a normal speed but it was heavy. We meandered our way south of I-10...

Apr 22, 2012 - First Baptist Church

Went to the First Baptist Church this morning. Heard a wonderful sermon from a young preacher. Then we rode down to the wharf to where they were having the blessing of the shrimp boats but we must of missed it because we didn't see anything. They did have a car show and some booths set up. Brought a beautiful necklace and earring set made out of cut glass from a very friendly lady. Decided to come home and have lunch. We spent a lazy day sitting on the beach until the bugs drove us in. Received a call from Rhonda (Donald's sister) that...

Don't wake me up

Apr 20, 2012 - Beautiful Sunrise

This campground is great. Not many people here and you can't beat the view. We ate the buffet at the Casino last night and of course we ate to much. We think we have decided to stay the week-end. Don't like traveling on the week-end. I have to go over today and try the water out. The weather said the water temperature was 72. Sounds good to me.Yes the water was great. Just into my ankles, no farther. We drove about 40 miles down the beach and it is so sad that so many of the old homes were gone because of Hurricane Katrina.

Don't wake me up

Apr 19, 2012 - Silver Slipper Casino

We drove 200 miles today. The GPS got us lost again. We ended up going down a small back road with a railroad track that was very steep. Was afraid the trailer would drag but we made it. Of course when we get lost it is always my fault. When we pulled into the campground the front of the trailer and the truck were covered with what they call love bugs down here. They say they will eat the paint off your vehicle if you don't get them off right away. So Donald had to wash the trailer and the truck as soon as we got hooked up. It seems as...

Don't wake me up

Apr 3, 2012 - Bay St. Louis Mississippi

Our drive was beautiful to Bay St. Louis Mississippi, the sun was out; however, that evening, the rain, lightning and thunder came back with a vengeance. Houston, does not like thunder and lightning, he was up most of the night, needless to say I (Mike) did not get a good nights sleep.

Mar 16, 2012 - Recovering from Hurricane Katrina

The sign on the door read "Hancock County - Died August 29, 2005". We were entering Bay St. Louis, Mississippi. It took us a matter of minutes to realize something was going on here and then it hit us, Hurricane Katrina! This was the town where the eye of Katrina made final landfall. Over the entire 7 mile beach front area of this town, not a single home or structure was left intact. The storm surge flooded houses as far as 10 miles inland! Six and a half years later and what we see is a mix of foundations, for sale signs and brand new...

May 5, 2010 - Traveling West

We left the quiet splendor of Griffinsville at 9:30 this morning and after an uneventful drive arrived Bay St Louis MS at the Hollywood Casino RV park at 2:30. It was quite warm and steamy for most of the day and we were thankful to get into our air conditioned rig. We thought we might eat at the casino so we wouldn't have to cook or nuke anything in the rig, but their prices are not within our range so nuking it will be. We would like to thank those of you who commented on yesterday's blog. We are both thrilled that we are getting along so...

Living Our Dream

Dec 3, 2009 - Beauvoir In Biloxi

From Hollywood Casino RV Park – Bay St. Louis, MS Monday, December 1, we traveled I-10 West from Alabama to Mississippi. Being from Texas, it is still so hard for me to fathom that in just a little over 3 hours of travel and driving less than 150 miles, one can travel within 3 states…..the summer of 2008, it took us 4 days of driving to get out of Texas on the route from Edna, TX to Raton, NM!!! We left with overcast skies in Gulf Shores and the farther we traveled west, the harder the rain fell and when we arrived in Bay St. Louis, Rudy...

It's always fun looking forward to a trip to a new destination. We got on the road Thursday July 2nd and planned to make it to Shorter, Alabama to the Victoryland casino. It takes us over 2 hours to get to Shorter, the RV parking area is down from the Casino take a left into the big parking area, the shuttle bus will come right out to get you. We have...
