Mar 23, 2017 - Holliday Casino in Bay Saint Louis, MS

Short Drive today, stopping at the Holliday Casino in Bay Saint Louis. We played the Bridges Golf course, an Arnold Palmer designed layout. We played here eleven years ago two weeks before the large hurricane. We were told that there was seven feet of water over the entire course. All the casinos that were on barges and boats were destroyed and new casinos were built on land. We ate down town at "Cus Seafood Restaurant" The best fried oysters over salad I ever had.

Mar 25, 2014 - Hollywood Casino

We only stayed one night here and tried the tables with some good results. Nice campground and casino. Met with Champ and Diana and had dinner with them. Leaving here tomorrow for Donise's. This post contains some of the pictures we took in Donna and Mexico during the winter stay.

Jan 10, 2013 - Hollywood Casino RV Resort, Bay St. Louis, MS

The morning of Jan 10th we left Fort Pickens campground. The morning was very foggy as can be seen on the video as we drove through the sand dunes toward Pensacola Beach. We are headed to Bay St. Louise, MS for a four night stay at Hollywood Casino RV Resort. This was only a stop to do some grocery shopping and to get some laundry done. While here we had some pretty good rain and thunder storms come through the area.

Nov 24, 2012 - Where Are We?

Two months and just over 1200 miles ago Charlie and I were enjoying Iowa like I’d never had thought. The countryside was beautiful, the people-amazingly friendly but there was a hint of winter in the air and for me, a Southern route was the only acceptable direction to continue. Journal entries have been nil since I lost yet another computer to those unfriendly imps that play havoc on weary travelers. So many photos...gone. Changing venues every couple of days grew tiresome so we started looking for places that were nice enough for monthly...

Feb 12, 2012 - Bay St. Louis, Mississippee

Shady Acres Campground, Bay St. Louis, Mississippi We arrived in Bay St. Louis on Thursday. The sun was shining when we left Rainbow Plantation and crossed the bridge that spans Mobile Bay, and we were looking forward to our stay in Mississippi. The water sparkled; the traffic was light; and we didn’t anticipate any rough spots. However, when we were midpoint on the bridge, we saw a sign indicating that we were approaching a tunnel with signs warning that hazardous materials were not allowed. Tunnel? There were no tunnels on our map,...

Mar 19, 2011 - Bay St. Louis, MS

We made our way across Louisianna on Saint Patrick's Day. We remembered the approx. 20 mile causway west of Lafayette with the bayous on either side and in the middle. Instead of staying on I-10 and going through New Orleans we got on I-12 in Baton Rouge and followed that on the north side of Lake Ponchitrain until it met up with I-10 near the Mississippi line. We arrived at the Hollywood Casino RV Park in Bay St. Louis, MS about 5:00 p.m. It looked like a really nice park with full hook-ups, cable TV and wi-fi. Brad did the hooking up...

Nov 23, 2010 - Mississippi Meanderings

It’s only been a few weeks since our last journal entry; however, it seems like we’ve experienced more in the last ten days then we have in the last ten weeks! Our time has been occupied with caber tossing, reeling in sharks, “Walkin’ [in] New Orleans,” and attending a Michael Grimm concert. We were attracted to the Highland Games in Gulfport, MS because it was close by and we’d never seen the traditional Celtic games in person. In addition to enjoying Gaelic foods (bangers and mash, bubble and squeak) and Irish music, we watched the caber...

Nov 6, 2010 - Back on the Gulf Coast

Catch up time, time to catch up on all that we’ve avoided, missed, or just plain forgot about! It seems like we’ve hurried through the past couple of months getting from one place to the next, and preparing for the cooler weather. Not sure if that’s really true, but we plan on spending the next six months in warmer temps and fewer places for longer periods of time. “Moving day,” the day we pack things away, hook up Tug Boat (our one-ton pickup) to our house, and drive off, has become more of a chore each time, probably because it means we...

Jan 14, 2010 - To the Trains, and then to Katrina

I told you about the RV park we were staying at that had the train running around it, well you need to hear a little more. The name of this campground was Wales West, and the guy who built it could not get funding for his train unless he found a way to make more money from it. So he added an RV park, and the bank agreed to do the funding. As he states it the bank definitely owns more of it than he does, but it was a wonderful setting and we had a great time there. On Tuesday, the day before we left there, we went to a neighboring town...

Nov 16, 2009 - Lake Charles, LA to Bay St. Louis, MS

Departure time: 11:45am Arrival time: 5:00pm 233 Miles We’re in a nice park, in the woods, far enough from the interstate to be away from the road noise, however, it’s hunting season and the constant sound of gunshots off in the distance is disturbing the tranquility of the peaceful morning and beautiful sunrise. It’s warm! First day for wearing shorts since leaving Florida! Next destination will be a guaranteed parking place one way or another. We’re planning to be in a casino RV park tonight and if there’s no room, oh well, we can...

Jan 30, 2009 - House Dedication

Today we dedicated Crystal Cheek's house. Dave Walker the local Director of Communications led the dedication ceremony. Sandwiches, bake beans, cole slaw were provided for lunch. It will still be a while before Crystal can move in. The floor coverings still need to be installed. The electricians were finishing their work today. Tile will be installed around each bath tub. The finish plumbing still needs to be completed. Then there will be the seemingly endless punch list to complete. My job today was to install the porch railing which...

Jan 29, 2009 - Thursday and finishing touches being done

By Wednesday morning the window and doors were in. The roof was on. The drywall was installed and finished. Thursday the house is painted on the outside. The interior walls are painted. Interior trim is nearly complete. Most of the crew has moved to a new house. Tommorow they are scheduled to have the dedication of the house at noon. Not a bad week of work. We are really enjoying the people we have met while here. All have very interesting stories and are too numerous for me to remember.
