Aug 15, 2014 - Woodbury, MN - The Biggest Mall in America

(Ron Writing) This morning we drove a short distance south to the Minneapolis/Saint Paul area. We actually went to the suburb of Bloomington and spent all afternoon at the Mall of America. The place is huge and, if you include the indoor amusement park area, it’s the largest mall in America. There are several larger malls in a variety of foreign countries. We sure got our walking exercise. By the time we walked around the four levels we probably did about 3 miles or so. I read that if one were to spend just 10 minutes inside each retail...

Aug 29, 2012 - The Twin Cities

We enjoyed our down time in De Forest. The campground was nice and quiet and the weather was lovely. We went out to eat a couple of times and, of course, we can't be in Wisconsin and not visit a cheese store. Somehow, I managed to spend over $50 at Ehlenbach's Cheese Chalet. I came home with cheese, jellies, and wine. Hey, we're in Wisconsin, so why not? Actually, the cheese is really good. We hit the road early, traffic was light, we topped off our fuel in Black River Falls, and rolled into the campground in Woodbury, just a little east of...

Oct 12, 2009 - Minnesota Again

After a week and a half at the ranch in my donut hole, it was time to complete the donut or finish the road trip. My classmate from culinary school, Lauren, is coming to Arizona to do her externship at the little bakery where I did mine. I had left my car at her house in Minneapolis when I flew to Oakland for book group, ready to pick up the car and Lauren when I returned. On Monday, October 12th, I flew from Phoenix back to Minneapolis. Lauren and her fiancé Mark met me at the airport, bringing the jacket I had left in my car. It was 22...

Sep 21, 2009 - Brainerd to Minneapolis-St Paul

I left Krista’s house early Monday morning to drive to Minneapolis-St Paul. I left in the dark, and really enjoyed the sunrise. People in Minnesota refer to the twin cities and surrounding suburbs as “the cities.” I arrived at Lauren’s house in the cities where I left my car. She drove me to the airport for my flight to Oakland....

Spent a couple of days with friends John & Joyce Biever. Had Carbone's Pizza on the 1st night. Next day they took us to Stillwater, MN for lunch at The Dock on the St Croix River. Took a tour around the surrounding area, even went to Hudson, WI to look at the boats. Most were still shrink wrapped for the winter. Didn't know they shrink wrapped boats.

May 27, 2008 - Woodbury, MN

On Wednesday, we drove from Sioux Falls, SD to Woodbury, MN. We arrived in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area a couple of days before the rest of our family ... enough time to take care of some chores before a busy weekend. While we were driving around in search of an rv-size carwash, we stumbled on to Woody's Bar & Grill with a yellow dog mascot, so we had to stop in. On Friday morning, we got in a long run (in anticipation of a weekend frenzy of eating) on a neighborhood trail. On Friday afternoon, Mary Ann (Bruce's Mom), Jill (Bruce's...
