Jul 29, 2010 - Uncertainity

Nanc did leave today so I anticipate I will be more busy than ever for the next couple of months. We still don’t know what the winter season will bring us. Do we make “arrangements” for Dad so we can head south again for the winter or will we be spending the winter in Windom????

Jul 20, 2010 - Back to Windom

Back at Windom having left last Sunday afternoon. Hit it pretty hard compared to our normal leisure travel. Brother Steve brought Dad back from his place in Mankato, so we are back at it with mow, mow, mow!!! Grass just keeps growing with all the rain and hot weather. Now we just have to prepare for Nanc getting ready to take off on the 29th for Park Rapids leaving me with Dad. Her Mother is going to have hip replacement surgery and we had promised to be around to help out. I guess with the two of us we will get both “projects” accomplished.

Jun 30, 2010 - Trying to turn to normal

Have remained very busy. Nanc and I have stayed here in Windom with Dad and we are trying to set in a routine. Have done much lawn mowing, Dad enjoys it always adding to what has to be mowed by mowing down the high grass. Mom had pretty much handled the financial affairs with Dad knowing very little how, thus I have spent much time arranging those matters. Tracking rental income, farm affairs and talking with bankers on trying to get most if not all somehow electronically capable. This will be necessary for future management.

Jun 21, 2010 - Mom's Funeral

Today was the funeral. Between the viewing last evening and the service today, what a crowd. Since last Wed. between arrangements/preparations and visitors, there has been little time for anything else. Dad and I even had to make a trip to the family burial plot in Dovray to confirm which site. With 8 remaining plots we had to make sure where mother was to be buried. The Cemetery Administrator just wasn’t too sure which one to use. The wrong site would not have been good!! With all the activity, the reality just hasn’t set in yet. Showing...

Jun 16, 2010 - Mom's passing

The last two weeks have been very busy. Mom gradually slipped some every day passing away this afternoon at 2:00pm. We are very grateful she retained her mind and we could talk until about last Monday when that became very difficult. She suffered very little pain although breathing was very labored the last few hours. Nanc and sister-in-law Gloria were in the bedroom when she stopped breathing and called for my brother and myself. We came immediately and each knew she had passed.

May 2, 2010 - Final Day

Final day at “Deutschmann Park”. Brother Steve came down and Dad put us to work doing some more tree work. He was worried about the big limbs on a maple tree hanging over the barn. We succeeded and now think we should go into the business of tree removal! Made one final tree drop for the day of a dead oak near the house. Somehow I sat on something that did a job on the seat of my pants. Well, just more patching material.

Dragging our feet

Apr 30, 2010 - Busy!!

Last day of the month has arrived and seemed to have gotten here so quickly. We left Spirit Lake and moved to Deutschmann Park in Windom on Wed. April 21st. We have made a complete circle, having started from here last Dec. 1st. When you stay busy, the time flies by! Got the tiller on the tractor, which put Dad to work. We also got the snow fence down and Nanc got one of the flower beds racked out. As you can see we parked in the middle of the dandelion flower bed. Nanc has helped Mom do spring house cleaning while Dad and I continued to...

Dragging our feet

Dec 1, 2009 - It is time.

We pulled out of Windom today. Prediction was for a cold night coming and being thin skinned it was time to depart. Sunset on the road found the cold front moving in. Was a very good day for travel and made it down to Council Bluffs, IA where we had the pleasure of visiting nephew Josh and his wife Charity.

Smiles by the Miles

Nov 30, 2009 - What have we been doing?

This is our first post in about 4 weeks! After arriving at Deutschmann Park in Windom, BUSY has been the operative word. We have been fortunate to have such cooperating weather allowing the work to get done. Some things were expected but then as usual those surprises come along. Dad has been slowly improving; however, at this stage he as well as Mother need a little help around the place and with their “affairs”. We started out getting snow fence put up. Son Nicholas came down from Prior Lake and helped out. With all the trees, leaves...

Oct 31, 2009 - Finally a nice day!!

Finally got nice!! Woke up to this, a rise sunrise. How about the view out of our front window? Did get Dad out yesterday and took a trip to the Farmers Elevator to get some business taken care of. Still has some 2008 soybeans stored and now awaiting the new crop harvest. Is a real late harvest due to the wet weather. Hope it clears up to get it out before yields get reduced.

Oct 28, 2009 - Deutschmann Park

What a lousy October!!! Sun is gone again. Makes us all the more anxious to get going further south. Broke camp in Farmington and headed for Windom (Well at least it is a little further south.). We are staying here until driven out by cold and snow, to help out getting some of the pre-winter projects done. Dad is doing better, but again, this weather is not helping. Pretty much stays in the house instead of getting that good fresh outside air and activity. He has to be very careful right now and not catch any hint of a cold.
