Jun 3, 2013 - The Corn Palace and more Wind

Unfortunately, this morning the wind is back up and it's a bit cloudy. Not so much fun being outside, so Mom never did get a good walk along the river. Topper and I don't miss an opportunity, so an extra jacket and we were out. The time zone changed to Central yesterday about halfway through SD, so we stayed up later than planned and slept much later too. Got on the road about 10:30 and headed east....today's goal is Welcome, Minnesota, about 93 miles from the SD state line. An hour or so on the road and we had to stop at the Corn Palace...

our 2013 spring trip

May 25, 2013 - Welcome MN

May 23. Left Iowa City about 9:30 am after dumping (for you non-rv’ers I bet that didn’t sound good). We got to Welcome, MN. About 3:00 pm. About 290 miles. Uneventful trip. Went to the American Legion for a couple in the big town of Welcome. Very nice place and real nice people. Stayed in and caught upon TV and rest. Only got down to 52 degrees last night. The heater felt good. Suppose to get to 70 degrees today. Have driven about 2300 miles since leaving Merritt Island. May 24, 2013, day of rest. Went by a real nice VFW in Fairmont on the...

Sep 5, 2012 - Welcome!

Hello again! We are still in Welcome, at Checkers Campground, and have been very content here. The park is much nicer than we thought that it would be for just $15.00 per night! Lots of nice big shade trees, green grass, really wide sites and very quiet. We have enjoyed the park so much. Welcome is a small farming community and has that wonderful mid western feel with very tidy farms and lots of corn and soy bean fields. Unfortunately, due to the extended drought in the middle part of the United States, the corn and soy bean fields for the...

Aug 28, 2012 - Arrived Welcome, Minn.

Well we have arrived in Welcome, Minn located in south center of the state. Pretty nice campground for $13.90 for full hook up and WIFI. Everything seems to working ok. I got so busy this morning I forgot to send out an update. I think starting today I will only send out one update when we arrive at our destination for that day. I included one picture we took crossing the Mississippi river. Minnesota, at least on Interstate 90 is flat and a lot of agriculture Saw some more of those large wind mills. Tomorrow we will be heading for...

Aug 8, 2010 - In Welcome, MN

We are well on our way on a tour of some national parks and the upper west coast. We are staying in Welcome, MN at a small campground for a few days then moving on for probably two nights of dry camping then staying in Montana for a couple weeks. We learned that Sturgis bike week is going on this week so our plans changed some. We wanted to spend some time in the Black Hills but too much activity there and no campsites available til 9/1. What a bummer we will just have to come back this way again. We stopped in Elkhart, In on our way to...

Jun 23, 2010 - A Town Named "Welcome"

Today was simply a day of driving from South Dakota to Welcome, Minnesota. During our drive today we enjoyed seeing lovely farms and lots of corn fields! We made a stop in Pipestone, Minnesota, (home of the peace pipe) to buy some sweet corn from a young man selling it at the edge of the road. My goodness was that corn tasty! Also, if you enjoy Native American history you will want to stop in Pipestone because, as we learned, Pipestone is where “For thousands of years Native American Plains and Woodland Indian tribes-Ojibwa, Dakota, Oto,...

Aug 29, 2009 - Welcome, MN

It was in the 50’s in the camper this morning when we got up. Brrrrrrrr And just to think it’s not even September yet!! Yesterday we bought a 500 piece puzzle at a garage sale and have been working on getting it together, so this morning we worked on it. Then we got ready and went to Wal-Mart to get the battery receipt straighten out. It seems they put the right batteries in the truck but the receipt showed 2 different batteries so we’re concerned about the warranty. We got that taken care of then ate a late lunch at The Ranch Restaurant....

Aug 28, 2009 - Welcome, MN

We decided to spend another night at this campground, so first of all we paid for another night. Then we went to the town of Welcome and had breakfast and had a Farms Omelet, which was enough for the both of us. After that we went to an RV Store to see if we could get the crank for the slide out. No luck. We ended up at Wal-Mart where we finally got two new batteries for the truck and other groceries. We did some garage selling on the way back to the camper. Our camper and truck are so dirty. We ask here at the campground if we could wash...

Aug 27, 2009 - Travel Day

Today started out bad. We got up and got everything ready to move on and Bo told me to put the slide out in, I pushed the button and it did nothing. Bo checked it out, got the paper work out, checked it with his volt meter and then decided to talk to the people at the campground to see where the nearest RV Dealer was located. We could not even crank the slide out in as we don’t have a crank to do it with. Guess they never gave us one when we bought the camper. The guy at the park came over and they decided to cut the wires and hook the...

Sep 26, 2008 - Welcome, MN

Welcome, Minnesota offered a nice stopping point on our way to South Dakota. We've been averaging about 270 miles per day and this stop was 280 miles away. That leaves us two more days of driving about 250 miles to get to Hill City, South Dakota where we plan to spend three days visiting the Black Hills of South Dakota.

Going Down MC's-LANE

Aug 9, 2008 - Welcome to Welcome

It was a short trip on Thursday. We left at 11 and pulled into the campground at 1:20. The campground in Welcome is nice and we do have shade trees and free WIFI here. We drove over to the next town of Fairmont to buy a blizzard as today's Blizzard profits all go to the Children's Miracle Network. I would be slacking if I didn't help the kids, right? Friday we had planned to go to the museum in Fairmont and then do a major grocery shopping. I was checking the freezer to make room when I realized that it was defrosting. So began a several...
