May 6, 2013 - HOME AT THE LAKE
Monday, May 06, 2013 We made it home last Tuesday. I couldn’t wait. I called my snowmover guy on Monday evening and he said all the ice melted off the driveway! I was amazed so we headed north. It was a beautiful day with temps in 60’s. We didn’t hit snow until we were almost to Duluth which surprised us. When we got to the cabin we always walk in first to make sure everything looks good for pulling the trailer in. We ran into a neighbor on the road and he took the pic of us in front of the driveway. Everything was looking good and boy was...

Sep 10, 2012 - No Visit to Isle Royale Natl Park This Year!
This morning we called the lodge at Isle Royale National Park and found that they were closed for the season! That was a disappointment, but we are going to try to get the ferry over to the island anyway. That should give us several hours to explore, and we can make another trip the following day if we want to spend more time there. However, as we left the campground, the ferry company returned my call and said they will not make another trip to the island until September 22, and we can't stay that long. Looks like a good excuse to come...

Apr 22, 2012 - Beautiful Home on the Lake, Last entry
Sunday, April 22, 2012 Hey gang. We spent a couple days truckin last week from Little Rock, AR to North Branch, MN. Spent the night in Kansas City and got out as severe weather was forecast. Luckily we dodged it tho nothing hit KC but there were over 100 tornadoes further west. Glad we got out of there. We got to my nieces in North Branch on Saturday and set up in her yard. On Sunday we went back to the cities to visit Barb’s Mom and sister and brother. We had planned on leaving Monday but a forecast of snow up north changed our minds. My...

May 1, 2011 - Yippee, we be happy to be home
Sunday, May 01, 2011 Well Sports Fans. For the last 6 months you have wasted untold precious minutes, out of the finite number allotted to you during your lifetime, reading something akin to a pulp fiction novel, or worse yet, a seventh graders “here is how I spent my winter vacation” report. Tut, tut, tut. Well maybe it beat staring out the window wondering when the snow will stop falling or if it will ever melt. And that is what I’m doing now, and I love it. We did arrive safely back at the little cabin on Kane Lake last Wednesday during...

Jul 18, 2010 - Two Harbors, MN
Sunday July 18th Woke to a gloriously cool morning! A cool 72 but cloudy & ominous looking. As we drove, the clouds & humidity disappeared & we had a lovely scenic comfy ride north thru Duluth, MN & then north along Lake Superior to Gooseberry Falls & the State campground which is 13 miles N. of Two Harbors, 58 miles N. of Duluth. Duluth is a major port & is the western end of the St. Lawrence Seaway. We are still about 100 miles S. of Canada. I zonked out for most of the ride to Duluth! Visiting relatives is tiring!! or it could have...

Jul 18, 2010 - To Two Harbors, MN
It is moving day. We head south on Route 61. John’s allergies are really acting up so we stop at Temperance River State Park. It looks nice and we sign up for the night. When we get to the two campsites that are available, we find them still occupied. Checkout time at the Minnesota State Parks is 4:00. We get our money back and move on south to Two Harbors. At Two Harbors, we find another very nice municipal campground. Again, we are on Lake Superior. We look out the window of our RV and see two very large container ships heading to Duluth....

Jul 10, 2010 - Riding on the Gitchi-Gami Trail
Today we had breakfast with two other families, both from Wisconsin. Pam didn't really care for the crepes, but I thought they were okay. She did enjoy the fruit and yogurt. Today we drove a short distance to the shores of Lake Superior. We first went to Gooseberry Falls State Park. I always remember my dad talking about going to this place when we came to visit my uncle Ellis and his family in the early 70s. He thought the name was funny. We walked around the visitors center some and then decided that the best strategy for riding bikes was...

Jun 11, 2010 - Lake Superior, MN
June 10 Jay Cooke State Park Carlton, MN This was another nice MN park. We took our usual hike around and found a swinging bridge to walk over—which was a little scary especially if you don’t like heights with a swinging, creaking bridge all at the same time. We were rewarded with wildlife as we walked around. We saw a deer and as we stopped to look at her, we then saw a mother porcupine and her baby trying to climb a tree to get away from us. The mother only got part way up and stopped, then started climbing back down on the baby. It...

Oct 26, 2009 - Loooong update on summer
We’rrrrrrrrre Baaaaaaaaaaaaaack. The last time you heard from our heroine and her schlumpy sidekick they had just entered good ol’ MN and were breathing in the clean, fresh, crisp air that only the north woods can provide. We had sold our house and were coming back in early May to finish the deal, sell almost everything we own and hit the road as full-timers living in our RV. We pulled into our yard in the afternoon of May 7. Everything looked about the same. Neither of us really had much emotion except for a huge relief that we soon would...

Sep 10, 2008 - Almost home
We trucked across South Dakota to Wall. Can't miss that drug store, and then on to Adrian, MN for a night. Spent 2 days at Barb's Moms helping her get her new apartment set up in Mounds View and then on to my niece Kristinas in North Branch for our last night on the road. Will be home in a few hours. I thought I should at least finish the dots on the map.

Jun 20, 2008 - Final Preparations
We are in the final stages of being ready to head out. Looks like Saturday or Sunday for sure. We have been packing and preparing the house for sale. Since we have been trying to sell the house ourselves for several months we are long past the stage of looking around with emotions and saying things like "are we really leaving all this behind?" It has been somewhat emotional because of the huge change that just occurred in our lives when we pulled the plug on Friday the 13th. Now to just be home for the last week, even though we are...
