Jul 30, 2011 - Minnesota

July 30, 2011 Seven Days Since We Journaled! Minnesota: Detroit Lakes, Nisswa (near Brainerd), & Stillwater…. At Detroit Lakes, we pulled into the American Legion RV Park for two nights. At registration; we both went into the office. The Host was a delightful person, ready to help us find the right parking spot and ready to help in just about any way (which turns out to be a good thing). As Linda proceeded with the paper work, I went out to undock the Toad. I got in the car, put it in park, put my foot on the brake and started the engine,...

Jun 29, 2011 - Mississippi Riverfront and Stillwater

This is our last outing here in Apple Valley before leaving the area in two days. We wanted to head downtown and see a few things along the Mississippi River that resulted in the development of Minneapolis. The weather cooperated and was absolutely wonderful with beautiful puffy clouds, low humidity and mid 80s! Minneapolis was born at St. Anthony Falls. Settlers began to roll into the area immediately after an 1838 treaty with the Dakota opened up the river’s east bank. Franklin Steele set out from Fort Snelling by moonlight and beat all...

Jul 27, 2009 - Leaving "Home"

Saturday and Sunday were pretty much down days. It’s nice to sleep late and rest for a day or two. We kind of hung around the camp and later drove by our old townhouse in Woodbury, a suburb of St. Paul. This was our first venture into real estate in 1976. We bought low and sold high which allowed us to buy our next home when we moved to the Chicago area 3 years later. It’s seems to still be in pretty good shape, but the area has really developed in the last 30 years. When we lived there we were on the edge of the development and I used to...

Jul 24, 2009 - Back "Home" In Minnesota

Our plans were to stay near Stillwater, MN, where I used to work 30 years ago. Since we hadn’t made any reservation at campgrounds, we began to call ahead. Every place we called was full except on Square Lake that had one spot left. I know why. We are in the “boneyard” for campers and boat trailers. We also have a giant American flag flying over the campsite which is okay during the day. At night it’s lighted. Does anyone know what the state bird of Minnesota is? That’s right it’s the mosquito. Please make sure you take a look at the...

Jun 9, 2007 - And I said to myself...... What a wonderful day

Today has been one of the most perfect days we have seen in ages. It is what makes everyone that moves away from Minnesota come back for. At 6:00 PM it is 83 degrees and sunny with just a few of those fluffy white clouds overhead to keep you from burning. It started out perfect this morning and just kept on getting better and better. Well we're not dumb. We know how to make hay while the sun shines and we also know where everybody loves to go that lives in the Metro Area. Yup, we headed for Stillwater, MN. Stillwater is an old old city on...
