Sep 17, 2017 - St. Cloud, MN

Day 5. Finally on our way out of town. It’s a beautiful day for travel: cool but sunny and no wind. I had forgotten that there must be “neat” rules for Minnesotans. Every farmhouse and town and even businesses look like they were freshly painted and their lawns manicured. It is really pretty country – rolling hills and more trees the farther north you go. Stopped for the night in St. Cloud at an RV park that looks more like a state park out in the countryside with lots of grass and trees and wide spaces between sites even though it’s very...

Aug 9, 2017 - Another Dot on the Map

/// St. Cloud RV Campground St. Cloud, MN // Wednesday - August 9, 2017 A Travel Day: We took our time with the departure routine this morning, finally hitting the road by 9:20 A.M. Our route today would take us south on US 71 and east on US 10. The weather was overcast skies and cool. We skirted around the edge of a couple of light rain showers but no serious rain. We stopped for lunch in Wadena. I saw a billboard advertising a Pizza Ranch. We managed to find suitable parking nearby and ate a quick buffet lunch. The road conditions today...

Aug 10, 2016 - On to St Cloud, Minnesota!

Our two weeks zipped by at Ogston's RV Park near Duluth, Minnesota. We really enjoyed the setting, the location and the people. We have reserved a seasonal spot for next summer to return. Since our last update, we made several return trips to downtown Duluth waterfront area to check out the museum, aquarium, take a Vista waterfront cruise and walk on the pier. Weather was great and we enjoyed the cool air coming off Lake Superior. The day before we left we joined a dozen others from Ogston's RV Park for a pontoon cruise on the St Louis...

Sep 26, 2014 - St. Cloud Trails

We’ve been having a pretty laid back time in St. Cloud. Our only activities have been eating at Michael’s and walking on the paths along the Mississippi. Michael’s was a pleasant surprise. Not expecting much we arrived at the restaurant shortly after 5 and found a quiet, empty, somewhat messy reception area. Our further reduced expectations were reversed when Andre came out to greet us. Andre is Austrian and bought Michael’s twenty years ago. He escorted us into a large, but empty, attractive dining area and presented us with a menu that...

Sep 22, 2014 - Minnesota Power Lines

We were back on the road this morning. Barnesville proved to be a nice stop with the pretty campground, a city park with a small lake located across the street from the campground, and some wide quiet streets in Barnesville to jog. One other feature cropped up last night as I was walking back through the grass toward the See Ya and encountered a reptilian friend. Our drive today continued southeast on I-94 about 150 miles. That meant more flat landscape but also another interesting roadside. We saw clearly that a long power line was being...

Jul 17, 2013 - Travel day - Walker, MN to St Cloud, MN

We have enjoyed our friends around the Leech Lake area and also family at Lake Winnie but it is time to move on. When we pulled into the area - remember the first day we had the car towed, the young man who was the tow truck driver told us about the park we ended up in this time around, he has his rig parked here for the season. Anyway, as we were ready to pull out up he walks to say goodbye. We thought how fitting ---- first local we met was also the last local to say goodbye. Nice young man. The roads were dry and fairly good until we got...

An uneventful driving day; we need to head south, there’s snow in the forecast for the next few days. So, we rolled out and pointed the RV south. We stopped for the night in St. Cloud and hunkered down as the winds blew. We plan to move on to Red Wing tomorrow.
