Oct 3, 2012 - South to St. Cloud

An uneventful driving day; we need to head south, there’s snow in the forecast for the next few days. So, we rolled out and pointed the RV south. We stopped for the night in St. Cloud and hunkered down as the winds blew. We plan to move on to Red Wing tomorrow.

Matthew and I are busy packing. Earlier today, we made 32 black bean burgers which we will eat daily on the road. We hard boiled 20 eggs and peeled them for the precious egg whites. Tonight we went to the library and checked out 5 audio books and have been downloading podcasts a-plenty. Now we will get some rest. Tomorrow morning we head out bright and early! -m&m

2012 Road Trip

Aug 5, 2011 - St Cloud, MN

We sadly left Lake Itasca…. Although there wasn’t much of a town there, we really had fun at the state park. But move on we must, if we’re going to make it to Madison, WI to meet our friends for the RV rally later this week. We drove about 3 hours south to St. Cloud, MN for just an overnight stay. We know of this town because two of our neighbors used to live here. So after setting, we headed out to dinner and take a drive to see the downtown. I found a great gift shop called Grand Depot on the far end of St. Cloud and then we walked around...

Jul 24, 2011 - Is it flower or flour?

Today we went to church at a UMC in Ham Lake (still can't get over the names around here) and then on to Annette's house for a trip to Minneapolis and the Mill City Museum. What a great time we all had as we took a guided tour of the old mill and learned not just about the flour milling at that location but that Minneapolis was the world's leading flour milling location in the 1800's. We also had a guided tour of the Flour Tower. What sights from the observation deck after a seated elevator historical presentation of the Mill Tower. This...

Jul 20, 2011 - St. Cloud Area.....Quarry, Abbey, Monestary & Garden

From Dakotah RV Park – Prior Lake, MN Our Mississippi River finds of today were located in St. Cloud and a few smaller surrounding towns. Once known as the “Nitty Gritty Granite City” St. Cloud and surrounding area was once home to nineteen granite companies and this industry provided thousands of jobs throughout the mid 1800s to present day. With this history of granite our first stop of the day was Quarry Park in what is appropriately called “Granite Country USA”. This 643 acre park was touted as a fascinating look at the early granite...

Jun 25, 2011 - St Cloud Pickleball Tournament

The tournament in St Cloud was VERY competitive. I'm afraid we did not fare so well but it was fun. Steve Wong, owner of S-Type Sports Pickleball Paddles, was there with his wife who is from Minnesota. Since we finished early at the tournament we took the advice of several players at the tournament and drove to the Munsinger Gardens. It was truly a beautiful gardens set along the river. The picture above from the gardens doesn't do it justice. We both thought St Cloud was a very beautiful city. You can click on any picture and view it in a...

Jun 23, 2011 - St Cloud, MN

After a leisurely morning we finally left Owatonna around 10am. It was another windy day. The roads in Minnesota are very rough. Sandy said, "Minnesota is the land of 10,000 lakes and rough roads!!" We arrived in St Cloud, Mn around 12:15pm. We are glad to be at our new home for the next few days. We are staying at the St Cloud Campground. Our friends and fellow picklers from Palm Creek, Tom and Jeane Gerhart, are staying at the same campground. We are here to do a pickleball tournament on Sat.
