Aug 17, 2018 - Land of 10,000 Lakes

We arrived in Minnesota today, the Land of 10,000 Lakes. This nickname reminds one of the many lakes in Minnesota. There are actually 11,842 lakes that are 10 acres or more. Depending on one's definition of a lake, Estimates as high as 15,000 have been made. Minnesota's license plates display the legend "10,000 Lakes." St. Paul, south of where we are, was our home for about 3 years between 1976 and 1979. We’re staying at the Saginaw Campground about 15 miles west of Duluth for the weekend. I was apprehensive about this place, but it looks...

Aug 16, 2017 - August in Minnesota

We began our long-awaited trip to Grand Marais a day early to avoid a fog forecast. For the first time we were able to participate in all the events of the Fisherman's Picnic. Still our very favorite part is the scenery around us and the music of Michael Monroe, a local artist. We saw him perform twice during the weekend. Other highlights were a wide variety of musical performances ranging from a Jazz Band to Drum and Bugle Corps and Bagpipes. We listened to about three groups or individuals each day we were there. Log rolling and fish...

Jul 16, 2017 - July in Minnesota

We spent the weekend before the Fourth of July in Bemidji, Minnesota. As usual, we enjoyed their waterfront carnival including a water ski show on Saturday and a parade on Sunday. Our hotel was Country Inn and Suites on the Lake Bemidji waterfront with beautiful views of the lake, sunset and sunrise. Besides shopping and dining at some of our favorite places, we had a chance to catch up with the RV Park manager where we spent the summer of 2014. She has experienced lots of changes, and it was fun visiting with her. On July 4th we watched...

Jun 10, 2017 - Celebrating 23 Years

It's difficult to believe but one month of our summer in Minnesota is already up! We came seeking cooler weather, and we sure got that. It has been cool and rainy much of the time. Spring has finally sprung for the fourth time for us--Arizona, Texas, Oklahoma and now Minnesota. Good thing we like spring weather as long as it isn't severe. On pretty days we've been taking day drives as usual. We've been to Cloquet twice, Duluth many times, Two Harbors twice and once to Virginia. Another day we crossed over to Wisconsin to check out Superior....

May 7, 2017 - Ogstons RV Park

We arrived at Ogstons RV Park on Sunday, May 7. It looks a lot different this early in the season than it did in August. They had an inch of snow exactly one week before we arrived. Many trees are just beginning to turn green and tree pollen is high. It's cool high 60's by day and barely 40 at night but gradually inching higher. We definitely found our cool place for the summer. We have mainly just been getting settled. However we picked the warmest day this week to head to downtown Duluth and enjoy the waterfront. It was very quiet out of...

Jul 31, 2016 - On to Minnesota!

Since our last update we had two more tours in Glacier National Park. One day we took the park shuttle from the Apgar Visitor Center to Logan Pass. Bill hiked behind the visitor center at the top of Logan Pass and had a closeup encounter with a goat. The shuttle is a good way to get from point to point in the park without driving and parking yourself, but it is not a good way to see things or take photos on your journey. We were truly impressed with the red Jammer buses for sightseeing in the park. Another day we drove back into the park...

Jul 2, 2015 - Duluth MN

Just outside Duluth MN is Saginaw MN the community where we elected to stay this evening. Ogstons RV Park is a nice friendly an privately owned park situated on a few hundred acres with number of spring fed ponds for everyone's enjoyment. Tomorrow we make our last push where we will rack up 465 mile in an effort to meet the kids for a surprise weekend in Northern Michigan. Today we knocked off 495 so tomorrow should be uneventful. In doing this we will be terminating any further up date to this site until we determine our next...

Alaska 2015

Jun 28, 2014 - Ogston's RV Park

We found out when we checked into the Soo KOA that Saturday was the "International Bridge Walk". It was scheduled to started at 8:30 ending around noon. We didn't want to get held up waiting in a traffic jam, so got up early, drove over the bridge and through customs like nobody was there. That's not quite true. There was no one in the customs lane but us! It was only 7:20. Next stop Ogston's RV Park in Saginaw Minnesota.

2014 Alaska Trip

Jun 6, 2014 - Saginaw, Minnesota

Yesterday Ross and Marge left the motorhome later than usual for no particular reason other than being lazy. Marge wanted to look for clothing that carries a known sun block rating because she is having a terrible time with sun burn. One of the drugs she is taking makes her very sensitive to the sun and even loads of sunblock do not help completely. Unfortunately the store she visited, Dicks Sporting Goods, does not carry any of this type of clothing. Ross found a brochure online describing a Skyline Parkway Scenic Byway that wanders for 26...

Jun 4, 2014 - Saginaw, Minnesota

Three nights were spent in Thunder Bay, Ontario because the motorhome was due for its routine LOF (Lube, Oil, Filter) service and the Kenworth shop in Thunder Bay could not do the work until Tuesday morning. Ross and Marge had their steak dinner at the Prospector restaurant in Thunder Bay on Monday night and they both enjoyed their meal but neither Ross or Marge were as enamored by the meal as they were about five years ago when they felt the meat was the best they had ever eaten. It' like leaving home, once you leave home you can never go...

Jul 13, 2013 - Michigan, Wisconsin & Minnesota in one day

On the road by 8:30 this morning, under cloudy skies. We traveled west across the Upper Peninsula, catching more glimpses of Lake Superior. As we crossed over into Wisconsin, we gained an hour by entering the central time zone. We made our way across Wisconsin under dark, cloudy skies. We're glad it's a travel day. As we approached Duluth, Minnesota, we crossed over Lake Superior for the last time on the US side. We found our campground in Saginaw by 1:30/2:30. It was more of a seasonal/live-in campground. When we arrived the rain began. We...

Jul 24, 2011 - stay over in Saginaw, Minnesota

July 24, 2011 stay over in Saginaw, Minnesota We decided to spend another day here, we did laundry today, and tonight we went to a dirt stock car track, there were some good races, one guy went over the edge rolled about 4 times but he was ok, another guy hit the wall and almost flipped his car, and he was ok to, luckily the wind was blowing just enough in the other direction so dirt was not bad at all. Weather today started out cloudy but sun came out and got up to 73.
