Jan 17, 2014 - Days in Minnesota

Sunday, January 12, 2014 – Saturday, January 18, 2014 This is a quick update for the week. I was diagnosis was sleep apnea and got the machine and will be sleeping with it to increase my oxygen supply. One of the contributing factors was a very small throat opening which the doctors say I have my parents to thank for it. My heart halter test proved insignificant for a-fib which is great news. Lowell did well on his sleep apnea test as he fell below the recommended 90% only 4 times and did not even require a sleep over test. I am feeling...

Jul 1, 2013 - Rochester, MN

Our next few days in Rochester is all about visiting family. Rochester was having 'Rochesterfest' downtown over the weekend so that provided a lot of entertainment for the kids. Friday night was the parade in the rain. We were cold and wet but not smart enough to leave. Guess we were staying for the kids. Both of Larry's sisters were there with us and lots of grandkids to keep each other entertained. We went back to the 'fest' on Saturday night with Gloria and Chuck (sister and brother in-law) to 'eat' and watch the street dance and other...

Jun 27, 2013 - Rochester, MN

We left the state park in Missouri, drove through Iowa and into Minnesota(about 220 miles). We are staying at the Autumn Woods RV park in Rochester MN. It is a beautiful park. We will be here for 5 nights visiting family. We were just sitting up when Larry's sister Bobbie called and said .. "We know your here how about we bring a pizza by?" No secrets with the kids texting. Glad we didn't plan to surprise anyone. For all of you in Arizona. Try this one evening... sitting outside under fruit trees eating pizza. It was a cool 70 degrees.

Jun 5, 2013 - Coffee w/Don, groceries and laundry

"Uncle" Don mentioned he might come have a cup of coffee with us today and we were delighted to see him this morning. Topper also has yet-another friend for life. ;-) Don noted that it was "just like the old days" of having coffee and visiting…it was really great to see him once again before we have to leave! Late morning we headed over to Walmart for groceries, then diesel fuel. Lunch and laundry rounded out the afternoon. Steak bbq tonight and we'll head out in the morning for Baraboo, WI and the Wisconsin Dells.

Jun 4, 2013 - To Rochester, MN, to see Don and Barbara

Last night's RV park was really nice and quiet except for trucks in the morning as they headed to work. Even so, we slept a bit late, but only had a 2 hour drive to Rochester, so no panic to get on the road. The landscape today gradually changed from sparse trees (except for windbreaks and shade trees around homes) to lush stands of trees everywhere....nice!!! Early afternoon found us in a nice RV park south of downtown Rochester. Don called right after we got in and said to come over when ready....we got to their place about 4:30. Barbara...

May 27, 2013 - Day 13 (or should that be 12b) : Sioux Falls to Rochester

Just a road day. Add another 300 Kms to the straight line road, making around 1000Km in all. The last 100 Km today reverted to normal road layout and we had to actually negotiate some corners! Also involved bursts of heavy rain in a very grey and threatening sky all day. I had heard it said that each state has its unique atmosphere and ethos and that certainly is true heading across to the east. Entering Minnesota today the scenery changed dramatically over a couple of miles from S Dakota. It seemed much more populated with more numerous...

Aug 6, 2012 - Golf, finally

We had decided to golf today so we sat out to find a course. Originally we had planned to golf on the Soldier's Field course, but at the last minute decided we would try to find a closer one. So off we went. We arrived at Maple Valley about 10 am, but the earliest we could tee off was maybe 1230. This was too bad since they have a Monday special for seniors, nine holes free!! Oh well. So next we tried the one at Soldier' Field, they were having a tournament so that was a no go. They suggested Eastwood, so we drove there. It was 1050 when we...

Aug 4, 2012 - out and about #2

The day started early, like about midnight, with a lot of light and noise followed by a lot of rain. When we got up we this morning, we weren’t sure what we were going to be able do today or if we would be able to get out very much, but it soon slowed to a drizzle and by about 2 pm, it was sunny. The good thing about the rain, IT’S NOT HOT & HUMID!! In fact right now it’s in the low 70’s. It’s very nice for a change. The bad thing is by the time Phyl got up to close the windows, Bob’s phone, which had been sitting on the shelf under the...

Aug 3, 2012 - Scenic Byways

This morning we drove over to Wabasha, MN to the National Eagle Center. This is a habitat for bald eagles that are unable to be released back into the wild since they cannot fly. They have 5 bald eagles and 1 golden eagle. The youngest is 3 years and the oldest is 31. It’s a neat place and they do good work. They have an area where you can get up close and personal with the eagles. It’s also a small museum. Wabasha is located where the Mississippi River, the Missouri River and the Chippewa River merge and apparently the turbulence does not...

Aug 1, 2012 - down day

Today was a down day. We had to wait until almost noon before we were picked up by Enterprise. After getting the rental, we ate lunch at ARBYS (oh the excitement) then went to Walmart for supplies. It was almost 4 pm by the time we returned to "G/G", so we decided to wait and start our sightseeing tomorrow. Phyl did laundry, we ate a bit of dinner, sat outside and read for a while then dipped our tootsies in the pool. Now it's almost dark so we're in for the night. Tomorrow should be more informative and exciting. Good night to all.

Jul 31, 2012 - "Food Day"

This is "Food Day" because we visited two food places, we mean besides McDonalds. We departed Sioux Falls about 1000 and made our way into MN into the "Valley of the Jolly Green Giant, HO, HO, HO" . As it turns out, Blue Earth, MN is where the Green Giant cans his corn and peas. There is a statue with a small gift shop. There is supposed to be a museum also, but we didn't drive around to find it. In fact the whole thing merits only about three lines in the official MN Visitors Book. Blue Earth is at exit 119 off I-90 and so for 119 miles...
